Hisense 100L5FSET 4K HDR Ultra Short Throw Projector + X-Large 100" Light Rejection Screen $5,995 @ JB Hi-Fi

230

Hisense's new 100L5FSE UST projector with 100 inch screen now on preorder for $5,995 at JB. RRP of $6,999 according to Hisense.

Seems like a decent deal, considering last model was on sale for around $10k two months ago:

Been researching UST projectors for a while, cheapeest 4K alternative is probably a Xiaomi 4K UST laser projector + screen which would be ~$4,500 total, but won't have the local warranty, which I think is 3 years with Hisense.

Other alternatives: Optoma P2 and Samsung LSP7T, both UST laser projectors releasing soon at around $6k, but doesn't come with the screen ($1-1.5k difference). Samsung is less bright than the Hisense or Optoma. This space is definitely getting crowded quickly.

The new Fengmi 4k Max (4500 ANSI with HDR10+ & HLG) is due to be released with a 100" screen. can get it for ~5000 Au stock!

    https://nothingbutlabel.com/

    • Yeah the new Fengmi looks interesting (does the listing say it comes with the screen?), but I think 1 year warranty is bit of a risk for something at this price.

Also if you've seen HDTVTest's review on Xiaomi/Fengmi UST projectors, they typically have a few key persistent issues across all models:

      • Telesync judder for 24fps content (which is for most movies)
      • Colour issues
      • High input lag over 100ms so no good for gaming

Hopefully they've improved on these with the new one… Especially judder for movies

    • Released with a screen in China only.

    • i spoke with them as i am also in a boat to buy a projector but it does not come with any ALR screen. 4999$ is only for the projector.

  • It's not too bad if it come with the screen, but where are the specs for the screen? Is it motorised?

    • No it's fixed like all their other laser TVs.

For these ambient light rejecting screens, I think only the brand Vividstorm makes motorised/rollable ones, which costs $2.5k-$3k for the screen alone.

  • https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/565837 was a different model that has a dual-color laser light source. I think this one has only one laser source.

    • Yeah was trying to look up the detailed spec on the chip/laser for this one but couldn't find it. Given the lumens are lower it's probably single laser

  • Single laser ?

If you're going to drop $6k on a big screen you want an actual big screen. 100 inches is not a big enough step up over an 86 inch TV that costs significantly less and performs better.

120 inches is the way to go, get yourself a UST projector for $4k or less and separate UST 120 inch screen for $2k which will give you a far better experience than this product.

Just my 2 cents as a 25 year projector user.

    • Thanks, good info for a noobie here. Torn between a 80ish inch tv vs projector.

"Torn between a 80ish inch tv vs projector”.

First up, if you don't have room for at least a 110 inch screen it's not worth going to a projector.

If you do have the room the only way to know which one you'll enjoy most is to go see a projector demo.

Watch one for 20 minutes and longer if possible. Make sure it's a 110 inch screen at least, preferably a 120 or bigger. The attraction of a pj is immersion and impact due to image size so you want to experience that aspect.

Don't go to Harvey Norman or similar, where they have no idea how to set up a good demo. It won't be a fair comparison to a TV.

        • Thanks mate. Our Theatre room is roughly 3.6 by 3.6 so not overly big. What size would you recommend? 120" can fit well would you think?

          • +1

@Ceejay: Yes 120 16:9 is the biggest you should use for that room, and it's what I'd choose providing your eyeballs aren't closer than about 3.2 m from it (as a generalisation, depends on personal preferences). If you haven't had a 'real' big screen before it might seem a bit big at first but you'll settle in to it.

You've probably read people's comments about when they first got their big TV (65 or bigger) and thought it was big but not long after they realised they would like an even bigger one. You get used to it.

    • What would you recommend for something that can be taken outside for night movies on occasion as well?

      Does that change anything?

      • I don't recommend a UST projector for moving outside, they need a very flat screen which is not often the case outside, and they are finicky to align with a screen so once you get it set up inside you won't want to move it….

A regular projector shelf mounted at the back of your room or on a coffee table if space permits is more practical to move outside.

What I would do though is just buy a cheap ($200 ish) second hand projector to use outside for convenience. You'll probably get sick of moving one in and out.

  • Any game mode latency details?

  • I bought the new Xiaomi 1s for $2600 AUD delivered.. should be here later this month

  • How is performance during daytime viewing?

    • Cant speak to the actual experience, but in theory it should be fine. It's 2700 lumens, not the brightest UST projector but far from the dimmest. The provided screen is the ambient light rejecting type so that should help significantly as well.

      • I just don't think I will love the contrast yet…they've come such a long way - but there's still room for improvement.
I've seen you can get the "grey" reflective screens now which make blacks blacker, but I'm totally into the OLED look at the moment. I'm watching UST space carefully though, I think the next "TV" purchase I'll commit, that might be ~2025 tho.
