What is its use really? Can't a smartphone hotspot replace this? Just curious!

    • Probably because it has openwrt on it. Plus, since its passthrough theres liekly less overhead.

    • The USB port has a USB-Ethernet NIC hardwired to router LAN port. Perfect compatibility to almost all devices.

Best to use as a VPN router. Setup a wifi uplink and VPN credentials, then all of the traffics will be behind VPN.

  • You can do the same sort of things with this unit as you can with their other units. Primarily used to create a secure subnet and WISP repeat to another Wifi network and/or setup a VPN for securiity when connected to say a public WiFi hotspot. The big advantage to this unit is it's size and low power consumption and as mentioned above it can be used as a USB-Ethernet NIC. The "trade off" is it's lower memory and processing speed.

    • How much lower power consumption than the Mango?

Source is Gl-inet themselves but they state:

        USB150 <1W
        Mango < 2.75W
        AR750S < 6W

        Hope this helps 😊

  • Can i put SIM in this ?

    • No. It is not a 4g dongle.
