  • paid $400 at amazon lol!

    • When was that?

just an FYI, doesn't; do HDR over USB C only HDMI. Speaking as an owner.

    On the USB-C port support:

    • Power Delivery of up to 45 W
    • HDR modes are supported only for the HDMI input.
The options remain inactive (grayed out) until HDMI video inputs become active. USB type-C (Alt mode with DP1.2) does not support HDR mode (source: User's Guide page 8).

No VESA mount support, VESA HDR just means it supports VESA HDR standard. In this case, HDR600.

As for why USB-C doesn't support HDR on this monitor, basically, with Dell's choice of the chipset for this monitor and the need to bring the price down, Dell has elected to keep some bandwidth for the USB 3.0 ports, instead of going all out on the video side (via alt mode) - which would force Dell to make the USB ports USB 2.0 only. Also, if you have a Mac or Intel NUC or Intel PC with Thunderbolt 3 port(s), technically, you are not getting the max out of that port. However, given the price, most people are probably okay with that.

    • how can it support HDR then? my MacBook needs HDR

      • HDMI

      • HDR also needs HDR content.

      • For Macs, you need to get the latest Apple USB-C digital AV adapter. Make sure you get it from Apple or a retailer who will accept return if it doesn't work. The earlier version of that adapter does not support HDR.

You could go for 3rd party USB-C to HDMI adapter but you MUST make sure it supports HDR. A lot of them don't.

If you want HDR and your only choice is USB-C or Thunderbolt 3, then you either need to pay premium for a higher end monitor or get a quality but expensive dongle.

  • I got one of these at prime day sales but also picked up the S2721DGF, now wondering if I should just return this one. It’s not as practical as I thought it would be with USB C, and haven’t had any time to watch HDR content.

    • This is with USB-c tho

      • I have them all plugged into a desktop anyways, so im using the HDMI. And then because of it, I cant even use the USB ports at the back.

        • I am also wondering if I shall return this

          • @Kawaii: Amazon has some stupid extended returns policy right now which lasts until January. I'll see if theres anything better during Black Friday.
