1185

Just noticed this gift card on the new Shopback gift card portal.

The Online Card can be used at a number of merchants including ebay! So this deal is basically 5% off ebay gift cards!

ShopBack appears to be selling $50,$100 and $200 Online gift cards and you can order multiple cards. Note - you have to go through the Shopback app to get the 5% cashback. I was able to purchase a gift card using my available cashback. I received the email to redeem the ebay gift card within two minutes. Cashback was instant.

If you try and buy the card online, the card will show as out of stock. You need to purchase through the Shopback app.

How to redeem ebay gift card
1. Find your Gift Card in the Deal Purchase section of your account
2. Click on See Voucher
3. Select the retailer and denomination
4. Input your email and your gift card will be sent to your inbox.

Mod Update 22/10: eBay has been removed as a participating retailer from TCN: The Online Card.

Thanks. There seems to be a deal patrol here

    • They automatically cancelled my order at 8:00am sharp today. And therefore invalidating my shopback and cashrewards eligibility. Of advertised amount.

Do not buy from them as they will obtain all you name, address, phone number, and credit card details!

  • how do you get ebay GC? where on the APP you go to see the new portal for gift card?

    • +3

Buy the TCN card, then in your order history on the app, you can keep clicking through to redeem. Select ebay, select $ amount, enter ph no. name, email and itll auto go through.

That said, I'm still waiting for the card to come. Cashback isnt instant either…

E: Went into junk inbox, was actually almost instantaneous.

      • thanks

        • Oh and the gift card portal is on the home page in a red banner. If it moves though, I dont know where else to access it because I cant find it.

      • Did you have problem to redeem the full balance of the TCN card like this comment?

        • +1

No, they must have missed the box for selection of amount. It’s not very obvious where it is.

People still happy using these guys after their data breach?

    • +14

Data is already breached. If I stopped using them doesn't mean the data will be unbreached
Besides other than email they have jack all details on me anyway.

      • They have also shared your account password as I learnt with some targeted phishing emails, does that bother you?

        • It does not as I really spend all my penny before anyone tried to hack me

        • How do you know that passwords were hacked too? What do you mean by targeted phishing emails

          • +1

@whackama: I started receiving dodgy emails with my cashback password in the subject line…

        • +9

          The passwords wasn't hacked.

Even if it was just change your password, you should have a different password for each (important) account anyway.

Not me. I’m shutting my account down once I get my cash back. We have alternatives and I am not one to let companies off for data breeches. If we reward companies with our business even after a data breech, it has the risk of other businesses not taking customer private data seriously as there isn’t any negative implications.

      • +7

        It's breach

And goodness me I doubt you are remotely aware of the data on you held by peoples with both good and bad intentions. Plenty of breaches haven't been detected, plenty more haven't been disclosed, and plenty more will occur in the future.

If you seriously uphold that behaviour you're espousing you better cancel your internet and telecommunications services and start living off the grid.

Shopback (profanity) up, but no more than plenty of other companies have or will. You actually just sound like an idiot with that response.

        • As someone who works in the cyber sec space, I totally agree with them. Shopback hasn't shown they care about your security and just because they had a breach doesn't mean they'll suddenly get way better. I'd rather go with the ones which "may have" already had a breach than the ones which definitely have. In my humble opinion, your argument boils down to "yeah they're bad but everyone PROBABLY is too so whatever" which I don't agree with. No, I can tell you first hand some companies are a lot worse than others for data privacy and security, they are NOT all equal.

  • How do I get my compensation payment from Shop Back for the daily spam texts and calls I receive ever since they released my details into the wild?

    • +14

      Post your bank details here

      • +9

No need. We already have them.

    • +1

Similar to how no one else gets anything when a million other websites lose data due to breaches.

  • +3

Stop supporting Hackback, major data breach including your account password being shared.

    • +1

Hope youre not using any of these companies any more as well https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_data_breaches

      • Make sure to delete all your accounts from Service NSW!!!! Can't support a organisation that has data breaches!

      • +1

If I got targeted phishing emails from those accounts on that wiki page with my account password in the subject line I would be very concerned.

        • +2

          Unique password for this site?
Or they just using details from other breaches where you have reused passwords?

I haven't see anyone else claiming similar details being emailed around

          • +1

@SBOB: Would Also like to know… I would be very concerned if my shopback password was part of the breach; and I don't think it was.

          • +1

@SBOB: My shopback password specifically was sent in an email back to me asking for $$ or they would release compromising material. Which is most likely BS but keep using if you don't mind your passwords being sent around.

The email was in my spam folder & I've got nothing to gain if you think I'm fabricating this information. Personally I will not continue using SB as a bit if loose change is not worth it for me.

sounds like the generic scam emails using compromised account details all over the dark web.

I very much doubt the shopback passwords were stored in plain text, but possibly not salted or encrypted enough to prevent brute force attempts at decryption, especially for simple or repeatable passwords.

Was it a complex random password or something 'simpler'?

I'm fine if spammers want to email me with my old shopback password as it looks something like this 'P7#jIy^Qv*Z#HjZiAj8H'

  • +2

Decent deal but personally the breach has put me in the camp of not using these guys anymore. Data can't be un-breached but its more a matter of principle now.

    • +6

Do you still use Sony, Microsoft, Amazon and Google that all had data breaches before?

      • +6

No this is "oz double standards bargain".

  • +3

enough already/ My spam etc has not increased anymore than before.

  • +3

Cashrewards has 5% on TCN too don't they? And they didn't get hacked as far as I'm aware.

    • -1

seems to be sold out anyway

    • Oh ya you’re right CR also has 5% on TCN. Then why are we buying on CashBack ? 🤔

      • Oh I think the TCN site is sold out. The Shopback app has stock. :/ Shopback has its own stock whereas Cashrewards seems to rely on the TCN's site for stock.

  • Thanks dealbot, handy to know the TCN trick.

Love the ozbargain community reaction on shopback deals.

    Dealbot posts shopback: +ve votes.
Rep posts shopback: neg NEG you should be banned!

    Love it.

    • They’re coming.

  • Do eBay gift cards negate the use of a coupon code?

    • +1

No (unlike Catch where you can’t use their gift cards and discount code at the same time).

    • +2

No, and they don’t negate cashback either (currently anyways)

  • +3

I think anybody should stay away from these guys until they give us a better or updated statement on their data breach

People seem to forget about things too quickly but let's remember these guys contacted us customers on a Friday evening with what was basically a generic letter

Did they put anything on the homepage I don't believe so did they follow up I don't believe so

    • +3

contacted us customers on a Friday evening with what was basically a generic letter

And never gave an update since. And this was.. a month ago?

      • Pretty much

  • Just brought $100 TCN card, tried converting to ebay voucher. Email sent for $30 ebay voucher instead of $100. There was no field to enter an amount when I redeemed. Managed to convert another 2 x $30 ebay voucher and 4th time it said i had insufficient funds.

    So now i have 3 x $30 ebay voucher and with 5% cashback I'm now down $5.

Just lodged a ticket directly with TCN.

Data breach, then this crap experience gotta say bye bye to Shopback once i sort this out.

    • +4

      Just brought

      Where did you bring them?

      • Don't know what you mean.

        • +1

          Brought <> bought

You meant bought as in past tense of to buy.

    • I experienced the exact same thing. Let me know how you go. I also lodged a ticket with them. I don't mind purchasing another $100 and then get 1x50 and 2x30 once they combine the values.

We should get a code for the TCN card but I don't seem to see it anywhere. I reckon if we have the codes we can use another card for the remaining balance?

      • Will do!

        • Was told it was a digital MasterCard that was issued and then used that to swap for eBay gift card. I asked if I can get the gift card number. Shopback should have provided that.

          • @TheTaxMan: Did TCN tell you this? Do you need to contact Shopback now?

            • @duckieboy: This was the response:

              Thanks for your email.

Our system indicates that previously, you processed a swap for a digital Mastercard to use at E-bay. Once a digital Mastercard is issued, we’re unable to cancel and reissue a gift card code.

You do have 3 years to use the $10 balance on your digital Mastercard in-store at all participating retailers that accept Mastercards.

If we can help you with any other queries, please let me know.

I asked if they can provide the code or whatever number I need. They have yet to respond.
Could possibly ask shopback as well but I'm trying TCN first, they should know what they've issued.

              • @TheTaxMan: Thanks mate. Only 10 bucks, just the principal of it all.

              • @TheTaxMan: Couldn't you then use the MasterCard directly in eBay without converting to gift cards first?

                • @AncientWisdom: I don't have the MasterCard details. It just shows I have a voucher on the Shopback app. There's also no email sent from Shopback about my purchase so it's solely the app.

              • +1

@TheTaxMan: Update, Shopback got back to me and said there's nothing they can do since ebay only do $30, $50 and $100 denomination and since I did 3 x $30 I essentially I can't redeem my remaining $10.

So I told them their system didn't have a field for me to enter in amount so I assumed it was going to convert $100 TCN to ebay voucher and for them to reimbursed me the $10.

Did you remember of there was an amount field? I only recall seeing first name, last name, mobile and email fields.

Let's see what they come back with.

Anyone planning to buy TCN voucher please beware.

                • +2

@duckieboy: I think there was a drop down list but I didn't notice it. If you click to convert without selecting anything, it goes with the $30 by default.

It's bad design and I think it's the TCN website's fault. They haven't responded back about giving me that MasterCard code

                  • @TheTaxMan: No wonder I didn't notice it. Thanks for letting me know.

      • If there's option to redeem for $50 why are they sending $303 instead of $502 for $100 value?

        • +1

          1 x $100 would make sense since that's what I brought.

  • Anyone considering purchasing please beware as you may not be able to convert the full amount to ebay voucher.

    • +1

Update: for ebay voucher make sure you select the drop down box and select the full amount of your voucher otherwise it defaults to $30.

So depending on the amount you buy you might not be able to redeem your remaining balance.

      • +1

I finally got this resolved through TCN. They just made the voucher have a $10 swap. I had to give them the link of the voucher from the shopback app.

        • Thanks for the update! I had to ask Shopback to give me link so I can pass it on to TCN. All sorted for me now too.

  • I bought TCN online GF using shopback app, then went into order history, then click on "See voucher". Then it takes me to TCN page with card number and pin pre-filled, but it also comes with error that card number and pin is not correct. So how do i get the card? can anyone help? I haven't received any email (spam checked) with card detail from TCN Or shopback… !

  • thx mate, got it within a minute, ezpz

  • Shopback are literally terrible. Stop supporting them.
