yea, been looking at the 65inch X9000H, should I get this now or wait for black friday?

edit: I am worried when next gen consoles come this will drive these to be out of stock,

    • +4

These are excellent TVs. You are unlikely to save more than $100-200 more on this 55inch by waiting.

      • Sony eBay had the damaged box ones for ~$1300 a few days ago, missed out :(

        • +12

One, they sold one for this price

    • I was too impatient to wait for Black Friday/Christmas sales. Although when I purchased it from JB it was before I got the email for the price drop from Sony eBay.

Someone from the other thread noted that the price has gone down on the official Sony website too. (https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/573411#comment-9459543)

If the RRP has indeed gone down then BF/Xmas sales would bring them down even more. But as for stock and getting in on the rush..

      • -4

can you confirm where your X9000H is made? (e.g. china?)

        • +1

Sure thing. Literally just ordered it on Wednesday so expected delivery is by Monday.. or possibly today or tomorrow by miracle of the Gods.

        • Almost all Sony TVs are Made in Malaysia.

          • -3

            @KOBH: And…………………

        • +1

Came in today. Made in Malaysia buddy.
          Hope that helps.

    • +1

I'm with you there, I am hoping that we see the 65" drop to around $1.6-1.7k and then I'll be jumping straight onto it.

I do fear that it will never drop that low and the TV will disappear and I will be doing the same thing with the next year's model.

      • These LCD TVs are all over the place .. don't worry you will find stock.. OLEDs are the ones harder to find at the super reduced prices.

    • That’s why pro ozbargainers have a 28 degrees card with price protection :)

      • Is price protection a standard feature of the card or do you have to pay extra?

        • 1% of the closing/statement balance.

        • Its no longer available to new customers. Only people that already opted in will have it.

Looks like HDMI 2.1 firmware came out early but need to disable Dolby vision to have 4k 120hz.. all good I guess. Just turn if off when you want to watch Dolby vision movies.

      • Dolby Vision game?

  • +3

Damn… thought this was the 65" and got super excited.. sadface

    • You weren't the only one lol

  • +6

Same price at Harvey Norman and you get 6 months free Kayo with them

    • +3

why not post this as a deal

    • Considering Kayo is $25/month ($15/month if you're with Telstra), then this is a decent bonus

$90-150 extra value if you're a Kayo user anyway.

  • Anyone use these as a monitor? My desk is 900mm deep not sure if it’s too big

    • get a visa mount arm for the desk, will keep desk clear

    • Im planning to do the same, my desk is 900mm so im planning on using a wall mount and moving my desk slightly out from the wall to provided reasonable viewing distance

      • I'm using an 55" x85G as a monitor. It's a shade too big I think. At about 1m away the corners are a bit dark and it's a bit of a stretch. I think about 48-50 would be a better pixel density/field of view compromise.

But otherwise I'm super happy with the project. I bought a stand-up desk and made a custom mount using 6030 T rail extrusion from eBay. Details here -

Definitely go get Microsoft Power Toys and set up FancyZones. There is a pic in the comments.

  • Do you think these will drop much lower on Black Friday. Been eyeing this and the LG CX off for a while, price difference is staggering tho.

    Thanks

    • +3

When Videopro, HN, GG have a 20% off ebay sale, probably. There's only one sure thing in life and that's a few days or weeks after you've scored the sale of the century, you will see it cheaper.

  • +2

Bought a Sony Bravia 1.5years ago and it developed a horizontal line dividing the screen in the middle right after 12 moths warranty expired. $1500 into the garbage bin. Repair wS more than a new TV. Just bought a no brand $400 and added a xiaomi tv box

    • +7

If you still have the TV you could probably still have it covered under ACL regardless of manufacturer warranty.

Products must be of acceptable quality, that is:

      safe, lasting, with no faults
      look acceptable
do all the things someone would normally expect them to do.

      https://www.accc.gov.au/consumers/consumer-rights-guarantees…

      • Yep, did that with dads Sony several years ago.. although they did try and dodge it at first, once I quoted the Fair trading or ACC link they miraculously came to the party….

      • Exactly this, probably classed as midrange and that should last 8 years.

Manufacturer warranties are not set in stone.

    • What series?

    • +6

You could have pretty easily used your consumer rights rather than the standard warranty to demand a repair, replacement or refund after that time. If you put it in the bin though then yes it is $1500 worth of a tv you could have got replaced that you put in the bin

    • +1

I also bought a X95G recently and it turned up faulty. Dealing with Sony was a nightmare. Still unresolved 6 months later and had to raise a complaint with the ACCC. Their support team simply dont care in the slightest. Ive been an avid sony users for years but i would not purchase their products moving forward.

      • -5

You buy Sony for the brand and quality of design and ease of use. For a small market like ours, support is bound to be bad.

        • +1

Quality? i think you missed the part where my premium product turned up faulty. sadly the support is one of the worst ive experienced for any product ive owned.

sony are going down the pan 100%.

          • -1

@rollin: No i mean their design and usability is second to none. Unfortunately there is always going to be issues with a small percentage with some sort of problem. Holdens manufactured here in Australia were great and export worthy to NZ etc, but it didn't mean that no issues occured and car dealers are a struggle to deal with at bets of times.

Its all human error and we dont want to be all completely quality focused and be like a robot. I'd go live in Japan instead for that sort of thing.

            • +1

@Fuzor: Fuzor, i understand these things happen. Thats why i contacted sony for a resolution. I gave sony more than enough time to resolve the issue and i was/am being completely messed about by them. Infact i was left with a faulty TV for many months and it was the only one at home. During Covid it was not a good situation.

Lets put it this way, when i paid a premium cost for my iphone, i received excellent service when i went back to apple with an issue. The issue was addressed and resolved. The same situation occurred with sony and it has been the exact opposite.

          • +1

@rollin: Not the experience that I had with them … called them with a dead power supply and it was fixed by them in three days with a tech on site. Could be luck of the draw though.

            • @ZeeFlyingMonkey: Could be the case. who knows. I did ask to work with another support engineer as well as raising a complaint but sony refused. i guess i will never know now.

Im glad you had a more positive experience compared to myself.

          • @rollin: I'll let em know to cash out their stocks before it crashes, right as the PS5 is released.

      • -1

Sony has been overpriced garbage, except for a few products like cameras, since the late 90s.They sacked most of their best engineers who all went and worked for Samsung, LG etc.

        • +2

Why are you on a Sony thread if they're garbage? If it was at the same price point, there is no way I would choose Samsung or LG over Sony.

        • This is true, happened back when they transitioned from building CRTs to modern tvs.

      • Same experience terrible customer service and dont trust the build quality of their current products.

      • What's wrong with it?

    • Should have messaged Sony anyway, they sent me out a new tv when I had a black blotch show up on mine, was out of warranty too.

    • That was silly most places cover it under ACL up to 5-7. Years which is the expected life of a tv..

  • I paid $1510 for mine from Harvey Norman the other day, picking it up tomorrow

  • Best to wait until 12 days to Xmas sale in Decemeber. I'm expecting the X9000H 65" under $1800.

    • Do you think the 55" will drop lower than this?

      • Certainly all sizes will drop more than $300.

        • You think the 55" will drop down $1295 and under? I thought maybe due to next gen consoles, this year TVS, especially those with hdmi 2.1 wouldn't drop as far as they maybe would have in the past

          • @Isotonic: Possibly less than $1490 of RRP $1795.

The 65" model is down to $1995 and will be less than $1800 in December.

      • +1

Just for reference, don't really know the why, but this model is being sold in China for around $850 AUD right now and it's only going further down in the coming 11/11 sale. So maybe there is some room to move depending on Sony's distribution strategy I guess.

  • +1

So—$600 difference between the X9000 & X9500 55” yet as per TGG compare the X95 has less compatible streaming apps?
    - I am looking at these sites on mobile so will neee to reconfirm as the balance of features seems off -

    X9000
    Compatible Video Streaming Apps
Netflix, Stan, Disney, Amazon Prime Video, YouTube, Foxtel, Kayo, Optus Sport, ABC iView, SBS On Demand, 7Plus, 9 Now, 10Play.
    X95000
    Compatible Video Streaming Apps
Netflix, Stan, Disney-plus, Amazon Prime, Foxtel, Kayo and Optus Sport

Initially I was only looking at the x95 to future proof our purchase, yet with HDMI2.1 rolling out to X90 & on paper it being close.. may be a more challenging overall decision than 1st thought.

Want to get our top 3 list sorted by BF&CM to be ready to jump. Yet every year It’s always getting harder, as anything is going to look and sound better than my old faithful Sammy of 10years or so.. yet making that jump to ‘the one’ for the next ** years is not an easy step

    • +1

fwiw i was in ur spot pretty much exactly (including the old sammy) and i got the x9000h this week and im very happy with it, looked at both

      • Sweet appreciate the info 😊

    • +3

      Same Android software same apps

X9500H has better picture quality - slightly more FALD zones, higher colour accuracy, higher peak brightness (1000nits vs 700nits), better upscaling
X9000H will have HDMI2.1 features for gaming - VRR, 4K120 and runs the newer chipset so the interface is much faster than the X9500G

      • +1

Seems a bit awkward this year, I was really keen on getting a X9000H but it seems a good option could be just to wait for next year's model if you can wait and are willing to spend the cash. HDMI 2.1 would likely become standard across the X9XXXI range and you could just buy the new X9500I without having to choose between picture quality and gaming.

        • +1

To be honest, I doubt many AAA games will run at 4k120 and I would be more interested in VRR - even though that runs from 48Hz min to 120Hz, so games need to run at 60fps (default is 30fps for most console games) to get any benefit

The bigger decision point is around the price, if budget allows for X9500H I would go that way even if gaming; it still runs 4K60 which is going to be more than enough for the majority of games on PS5/XBSX but with better PQ (and I forgot to mention better viewing angles)

      • Awesome thanks 😊

    • +1

      future proof

Doesnt exist for mass market items, more for niche markets.

In the 'future' there will be some new and improved feature or format that you 'need'.

      • Fair call/point

  • How's Android TV (9.0?) these days? Last time I used it a was on a mates Sony TV it was almost unbearable. Whilst Tizen is not perfect either it felt more fluid.

    • i reckon it's pretty good, i have a shield and i was gonna use it on this tv but considering using it for my old samsung in the bedroom instead

    • X9000H has the latest mediatek chipset so it's actually pretty snappy - try one in store if you can but it runs how you would expect it to - instantly, and not the 5 second lag like prior year models

    • I love Android on Sony.

  • I'm hoping for the 2021 X9500('x') to have HDMI 2.1 integrated, then I will have the best of both worlds. Especially given the better viewing at an angle and better peak brightness.

  • +3

Either they're melting under the competition (LG CX, QLED Q80T etc), or a sign that hopefully others will drop soon too? I'm quite surprised they don't really have a PS5 premo TV ready at launch to bundle - like what's with the FW update for 4k120, VRR etc - leap of faith if you ask me!

  • -8

Normal 55" 4K TVs are about $600. I don't think it's worth almost 3 X the price of an Aldi TV.
Will probably be $1,000 by Australia day.

    • +2

      Crap 55" 4K TVs are about $600

  • Last November Black Friday Sales I paid $1295 for the 65x8500g and noticed at that time Sony reduced prices on all their TVs by a few hundred. The BingLee salesman told me they do this annually for end of year run out so they have the next version g, h, i, etc. for the following year. Great value TV, android & chromecast built in.

    • the Sony Bravia X9000I is coming out soon?

    • Do you remember for how much was 8500 selling in October 2019?

  • Beautiful TV, very nice colours and quality certainly beats that of LG or Hisense

Wouldn’t mind buying another but money is hard to come by….only working part time hours now thanks to COVID-19 and the downturn

  • +2

phone in and try your luck at further discounting. I got the 65 inch for 1750

    • Where did you buy yours from?

    • From Sony?

  • +1

Those picture frame stands on TV's make no sense, who was the genius who thought putting them on a TV, practically all TV's have them, and the number one factor to not buy the TV.

    • They did as people were complaining that they couldn't fit a soundbar underneath with the old style centre stands

    • Yeah this really puts me off buying TVs that have these stands, don't like the look of them and they're also no good if your cabinet isn't wide enough.

  • good price ! still tossing between this and the CX

  • Also available at Sony store online ($1595 Delivered)
    https://store.sony.com.au/television#prefn1=series&prefv1=X9…

    • Im in the same boat. I just cant justify the price difference, all I do is game so static HUDs mean a lot of babying the tv.

  • Is this one of the TVs that shows on menus and such?

    • +1

Do you mean shows ads on menu?

    • "Sony Select" and "Samba" are features that try and get you "suggested content"

You can easily turn them both off though

  • +1

Videopro.com.au has them $10 cheaper and bonus $100 gift card.

    $1585 with $100 gift card at VideoPro.com.au

    https://www.videopro.com.au/p-13812-sony-55-kd55x9000h-4k-ul…

    $1985 with $100 gift card at VideoPro.com.au

    https://www.videopro.com.au/p-13813-sony-65-kd65x9000h-4k-ul…

I tried to get the bonus matched at JB but they wouldn't do it (said something about it being a NSW store, local is Vic which is bs really). Others might have better luck in NSW. JB are $59 delivery (wouldn't fit in my car) Video Pro $45 delivery for me in Melbourne so no brainer $60 up.

I called Video Pro about the bonus $100, to claim the gift card you must contact them with the invoice number once it's delivered and you can redeem on the next online purchase. Might get a sound bar if they do any deals soon.

Stores are based in NSW but warranty is with Sony Australia so you would need to contact them anyway and the servicing would be done locally.

Just ordered the 65" model. There are lots of other Sony models with this $100 promotion.

    • FYI for others reading this - Harvey Norman delivery for this TV in Victoria was $22 … for both metro and the regional postcodes I checked.

      • I prefer the money towards a soundbar than Kayo.

  • can you justify an extra 1k for the lg cx ?

  • Just bought a Hisense Q8 75 inch few days ago. Which one do you think is better? Considering the 75 variance of this TV is even cheaper then the Hisense Q8 now.

  • bought the 65" two days ago from jb for $1956… very happy with it, would recommend.

  • Just got delivered, screen doesnt turn on. Yay.
