    So many exclusions

    • +4

Since when did 'Storewide' = exclusions apply?!
      Lol

    • +9

Excludes: Anything people want to actually buy.

      • Nah, there’s some excellent deals on camera equipment. They have the 3 Legged Thing Corey on sale for 303.20. It’s one of the best “cheap” travel tripods you can buy, and the same tripod at camera house is close to 400 dollars. Combine that with the bonus 3LT L-Bracket by redemption, and you’re saving basically 200 bucks.

They also have the Peak Design travel tripod down to 550, which sounds like a joke until you realise they cost nearly 700 normally.

You might not be able to get a cheap drone, but for anyone looking for photography equipment this is a really good sale.

        • Nothing personal but travel tripod which is made of aluminium ?
I have a couple of carbon ones (one mid sized and one really small and a kind of flimsy but still it does its job pretty well) and one big aluminium one.
I would not dare carrying the aluminium one with me while travelling. Too heavy.
Even smaller aluminium ones are not light or at least not as light as carbon ones.

          • @Foma2: Sometimes it's not so much weight but size which matters. Very happy with my benro aluminium travel pod. Does a great job and only cost 160.

  • +4

Damn it, was about to buy a DJI Drone but its literally first on the exclusions list..

All itemes from the following brands are also excluded from this offer
    DJI
    Epson
    Edelkrone
    Eizo
    G Technology
    Gnarbox
    Hasselblad
    Profoto
    Sennheiser
    Satchtler
    Wacom
    Western Digital
    Z-Cam

    • I think they included DJI in their very first sale and that's it. No more DJI promotion

    • +17

Yes, it's a "storewide" sale except they made the store half as wide for the duration of this sale.

      • +2

Better to say 20% off Store-half-wide in the title.

    • +1

      Storewide 13~ brands excluded.

  • +5

INSTA360 are on the sell list, very temping

    • +1

      why , what that

      • -2

        hellooo

      • +1

Uhhh quick google and they look like a gopro competitor/alternative.

I like the dual cam motorcycle option I saw. 👌

        • -1

          link

          • @capslock janitor: Do you even google? 🤦‍♂️ Lol no offense but you could have highlighted and right-clicked/tapped INSTA360 and hit search in Google quicker than you could have sent that reply….

    • I am currently considering a new battery for the One R, although I was after the extended battery base which I don't believe they sell.

    • Anything you can recommend for a motorbike?
Can I buy the Insta360 ONE R Dual - Lens 360 Mod and stop? Or will I need accessories, mounts, batteries etc?

New to riding and looking to cover my arse while riding.

Lowest price I've seen for the Tamron 70-180 (Australian stock) at $1719.20. Previous low was $1759.20.
    https://www.digidirect.com.au/tamron-70-180mm-f2-8-di-iii-vx…

Sony NP-FZ100 battery is pretty cheap at $88 too.
    https://www.digidirect.com.au/sony-np-fz100-rechargeable-lit…

    • Eecan would you recommend get this. Or buy from ccc for around $1500 but grey import

  • Damn 5D IV are still super expensive, even with the 20% discount @ $3,519.20

    R5 $6,588.00 asldkfjasdflkj - There's no R5 stock in Aus?

    • +2

No one supposed to buy 5D IV in 2020..

      • Yeah you can't take a good picture with the 5d iv. It's so old.

    • +1

A 5Div is such an ancient camera now that it would be such an unexciting way to spend $3.5k. But i suppose the only real Canon alternative is an R5 which is ridiculously expensive. Unless you need high end video or only have Canon lenses, I would go for the A7riii over an R5 for less than half the price for similarish stills performance

      • +2

True and untrue, the body is irrelevant ultimately. How much do you spend on a body, 3k - 5k? When some people have up to $20k in glass, it's hard to just pick up another brand of body.

        • Yes as i said, unless your deeply invested in Canon id go for the A7r3. If it is only a couple of lenses and you mostly shoot stills, the Sony gets you 90% of the same stills results (maybe only worse for demanding action shots) for much less money.

          • -1

@qvinto: But you don't get those canon colours or ergonomics. Having said that, love my a7iii :p

            • @ankor: Yeah that's why I didn't go with Sony, the colours just don't look right. Had one and sold it as spent most of my time in post trying to make it look what I got immediately with canon.

    • Harvey Norman and jb have the 5d iv for about 3300 at the mo. I picked one up recently. Yeah it's old but still very capable and I'm balls deep with EF lenses.

  • +1

thanks, Sony SEL 55-210mm F4.5-6.3 E Mount Lens (SEL55210B) on amazon prime day 269 and digidirect 199.20

    • those brands either need to create something new or they're gone in the camera department

The wedding photographers with $5k+ cameras are not the ones losing business to couples with a mate to take photos on a phone.

      • -4

They are, the second couple I mentioned above, paid a deposit for one of those photographers, they decided to can the deposit ($400) because they saw how decent the first couple did with their approach, saved themselves $2.6k.

I say this as a ex- second shooter at weddings, believe me, younger couples in general are becoming more frugal with these wedding expenses, Covid has sped that process up so much as well.

        • Fair enough, that may well work for them! All comes down to how much they value wedding photos, as well as the photographer's ability. (am a photographer and videographer myself too!)

          • +1

@tooli22: Good luck mate, I miss working, before March I was second shooting pretty much every second weekend. Wasn't doing it for the money as well, enjoyed being a part of those beautiful moments, but sadly as mentioned above, the 3-4 main photographers I 'worked for' are struggling to find jobs, young people are rightfully trying to save some money during these tough times.

            • @tightm8: Cheers mate, not doing too many weddings at the moment for obvious reasons, but Real Estate work is better than ever! Hope you can get the chance to get back into it some day :)

        • +19

wedding shooter here. I am not losing bookings to phones (for goodness sake).

The good will stay at the top. I'm turning away couples near every day availability wise.

Though my cameras are $10k+ :) Maybe thats why!

In all seriousness, the low end of the market - i.e. wedding photogs shooting for 2.6k or so, will always face stiff competition from cheaper avenues. My average client spend is $5500-$6000 and I don't believe I'm in competition with phones. I'm in comp with other photographers who also use their years of experience and lighting skill, not uncle bob with his iphone 11 pro.

          • @gavincato: What camera (body) is 10k+ for wedding /event photography?

            • @danzster: It'll be the 1Dx/D5 or maybe Medium Format stuff.

Granted the bodies aren't 10k but it's close enough

            • @danzster: Leica SL2's.

              • @gavincato:

                Leica SL2's.

Replace them with M's, you know you want to.

          • @gavincato: Do you have instagram? keen to see some shots. Cheers

            • @qvinto: Yes mate @gavincatophotography on instagram and if you google my name you'll find my website. Cheers.

              • @gavincato: I had a look at your Web site.
                It looks really good.
                A couple of questions.
                1. You do not do video, don't you ?
                2. Is it difficult to get a permit for your drone to fly it in parks, etc ?

          • +4

@gavincato: Gavin Cato is a well respected photographer. I've seen him around in some wedding forums :)

And I agree with what he said. The industry is flooded with a bunch of 'budget' photographers/videographers. They get busy for awhile but as soon as they realise that the model is not profitable, they start to raise the price and eventually these vendors will just get overlooked as soon as there's another cheap vendor around the corner. Why? Because their clienteles do not value quality.. just looking for what is affordable. Then they will start giving up because they think its not worthwhile doing anymore. Its just not sensible to battle in that low paying market of the wedding video/photo industry unless you purposely doing it for side gig and have other means to pay the bill.

I second shoot for a company that has a high paying clienteles ($5-$6k+ as Gavin mentioned).. and they are busy as always (if not busier than pre-covid since all the weddings that was postponed start to bank up). But then again their quality of work are ultimately the reason why they can keep charging that much.

            • @John: Thanks John! Good luck with the shooting. Cheers.

            • @John: Very much agree with this. The same relates to corporate videos which is what I do.
I’ve worked with clients who only have low budgets and as I’ve grown with my skills and quality I’ve increased my rates, those clients with low budgets have gone elsewhere as that’s what their driving factor is. They just want content for the lowest possible cost.
There is definitely work out there for mid-high tier gigs at the moment.

          • @gavincato: Iphone 12 around the corner - look out! lol 😃

        • +9

I was asked by a friend once to photograph his wedding, I emphasised that I was just a hobbyist but he didn't want to spend on a photographer & insisted so i went with it - we're not friends anymore.

          • @pln: The bigger question….

            Are they still married…? Happily…?

            • @pitiek: Luckily fb suggests they are … phew

          • +2

@pln: I suppose that's a blessing in disguise. You got rid of a shitty friend. Congrats!

    • +4

Agree that cameras are a bit overpriced but they are not going away. The market will shrink further to high end models only for enthusiasts. They will always prefer to use a real camera and lenses rather than their phones

      • I agree, I think the mid market (between 1-5k) is going to shrink or disappear.

Commercial guys shooting buildings/advertisements etc will still be around but wedding photographers, beware.

        • +3

There's no way weddings will be shot on phones, that market will still be strong.
It's the market for amateurs feeling they need a proper camera to take decent photos that is shrinking

        • +14

beware of what? wedding shooting is very technically demanding.

Good luck shooting in a dark church with a phone vs my dslr at 6400 iso with a f1.4 prime.

        • The problem is, those volume sales at the mid to low end of camera tech make revenue which pays for business overheads and development. The revenue even subsidises the high end.

The expensive end will become more expensive and r&d will plummet.

        • -1

          @tightm8

          LoL.
Wedding photographers will be around cos they know how to shoot from whatever equipment evolves… Technical, creativity …skillset.

Portfolio will say quite a lot.

    • +2

Camera is one thing, photography skills is another thing. And cameras have always been expensive.

Also, you do not need expensive gears for expensive photos. Wedding aside, I know a friend who is a pro photog (NYC based) who contribute regularly for fashion magazines (Vouge and the like) with a battered Mid range canon DSLR.
When you are paying for good photos, you are paying for their experiences, not their flashy gears. And yes the young are frugal with their weddings, but the mid-high class would still pay decent bucks for pro photography.

      • In fashion, it does not matter what gear you have, but who knows you.
If he has a name, and his photos are good enough from editor's point of view, then he does not have to worry about anything.

    • +2

Smartphone camera technology has come a long recently but so has mirrorless camera technology. Mirrorless/DSLR cameras are still leagues ahead of smartphone cameras and it's highly likely to stay that way in the future. Enthusiasts/professionals aren't going to replace their DSLR/Mirrorless camera for a smartphone camera anytime soon.

    • Not sure about being on their last legs but the advancement of smart phones have definitely taken a big chunk (and likely will continue to do so) of the market. The pro market e.g wedding photography are more resilient though. It's the mum and dad/hobbyist/enthusiasts market that will continue to get eaten away.

  • $2300+ for a7iii would that be good? Kinda need second /back up body for upcoming wedding gigs

    • +2

There’s been deals for sub $2k before for the body.

      • 2019 prices are lower 😖

    • +1

Not a great price for it. Another possibility would be to rent/borrow an A7iii instead of buying it.

    • price match at sony.com.au and get cashrewards 5% off on top of it. But its been below $2k, maybe wait for a while if you can, don't spend $400 more than what it was a month ago.

      • will rent out my sony a7siii :P pm me

  • +3

Yeah I think the band wagon of camera enthusiasts really got nuked by smartphones.

These days enthusiasts would draw a limit at like mirrorless bodies that are under 2k, but even in the 1-2k mark is pricey when you haven't even factored in lenses.

    I went from 500D > 7D > 5D > OMD EM5 > OMD EM1 > No camera…

I enjoyed taking photos, but just looked like an idiot with a weight hanging around me. But that's me, but yeah overall, it would be interesting to see what happens in the future.

    • Instagram/Pinterest really helped boom that market, I think young people are now more interested in making TikTok videos on their phones… it's just super convenient and easy.

    • +5

I think it comes down to how much you enjoy the process and results of taking photos with a real camera. My enjoyment with a phone is 0%. Even if i had the latest iPhone i would still not really care about the camera features as they can't replicate my preferred style of photography. I don't mind carrying around big expensive gear if I can get the elusive shot that makes me happy. For someone else, the pain of carrying the gear around may offset any pleasure they derive from the process

    • I freaking hate overblurred backgrounds being the norm now. Obviously not everything can be in focus but YUCK it's gone so far backwards

      • Shallow depth of field as a tool to separate subject from background is hardly a new technique. It's been around since the beginning of photography.

        • Yeah but its now the default

    • +2

It depends on the person. Phone photography is better for some, I just find i can't get in the headspace to take good photos with a phone, and don't find it satisfying. I actually find myself brining one of my bodies with me more and more these days rather than less.

I have friends regularly ask me what camera they should buy at what pricepoint, because they are sick of phones, and we are talking anywhere from the sub$500 budget range to the few thousand dollar range. The market is still there, it is just a different market, and in many ways for the better. I'm sure we all know somebody who bought a full frame dslr for family happy snaps and never really knew how to use it and ended up with worse or the same shots than they could have gotten on a point and shoot, for that market, phones are perfect.

  • +1

Fuji X-T4 body at $2230 is cheapest I've seen for local stock official AU warranty…. and 4.4k QFF points worth maybe another at least +/- $30 (depending on redemption use)

    • It's been about this price last time Digi had a 20% off. Great price none-the-less

      • I think maybe a bit more like 2300 last time, but still yeh it's getting down there. Now, fuji just needs to do a cashback promo soon and I'm in on the next DD sale….

        • fingers cross it happens at Christmas, I'm not confident though

  • +2

Thanks OP - Managed to grab a Rode NT1 (not NT1-A) for $263. Great price considering the cheapest atm is $320+ everywhere else.

    • +1

Thanks and congrats on the new mic!

Quite annoyed by postage… 2+k camera and it was just left on the front door despite saying requires signature and if not home send it to the post office.

Also the accessories sent from seperate order took almost 3weeks cos of AustPost delays.

    • I'm now thinking I should have done pickup, hopefully it won't be delayed too much.

      • Camera surprisingly took only 3days to melb.. but the other two..

        • I've had the same from other retailers, including a missing parcel that has "covid signature". excuses from Auspost..

          • @richar887: some couriers doing the same, CouriersPlease left a 1k phone at our front door and left, didn't even knock or courtesy text. Not even hidden away in the corner! Just in plain sight anyone walking past our house could see from the pavement

    site is so slooooooow

  • super slow

  • Site crashed mid order. Been trying to order the RF 100-500 for the last 20 :(

      Order finally went through :D

  • Nobody is talking about Nikon 😒

    • I saw a Nikon z5 review from Taylor Jackson on YouTube. They're 5 years behind Sony and Canon on mirrorless AF..
