Max speed 2400MB/s compared to ~3500MB/s for Samsung 970 EVO and WD Black SN750.
Ok so for gaming it’s not good?
Yes, much better than SATA SSDs.
@dealhunter52: Ok thanks, bought!
Its perfectly fine. For gaming there is very little difference between any SSD's.
The more expensive drives are only beneficial if you regularly transfer large (20GB+) files back and forth.
@jp1011: Thanks!
Hey I'm a noob with nvme drives, I see this other WD blue for $167 and wonder what the difference is and if it's worth it
Western Digital WDS100T2B0B M.2 1TB SSD Blue, 3D NAND
This is a 500GB one. This one is also M.2 which means it goes onto the motherboard directly hence faster loading speed rather than using a SATA cable. That other one is 1024GB, which is just bigger. But I don’t know why OP said this is not the best? It is ok for gaming?
Op said its not the best because it's not as good as the top of the line Samsung 970s or even the evos, or equivalent nvmes from Kingston or WD.
However difference between them will be marginal at best with no real world perceivable difference unless youre doing serious rendering, sustained writing tasks (like copying hundreds of gb back and forth)
Loading up windows, or a game or in between loading screens will yield you a couple seconds faster at best.
Chances are if you're asking these questions, you're probably not using the pc in a way you will notice that difference
They're both identical in performance. One listed here is more bang for buck. That one comes with 3 years warranty compared to 5 years for this one. Also, different sizes too, 1TB in this model is $137.55.
Looks like the WDS100T2B0B came out in July 17 whereas the sn550 came out in Jun 2020. It does only do 550mbs which as an early nvme drive I understand the performance gains. Just wondered why it said it was down from $350 to $167 thought it was a bargain.
They are not identical. Sn550 is NVMe, whereas WDS100T2B0B is SATA.
In most applications the Sn550 will be 2~4 times faster.
My bad, didn't look at the specs. Correct, that one is M.2 SATA only, not NVMe.
yeah i don't understand why it's a m2 slot that is only SATA powered but that must've been the tech back in 2017 before they utilized PICE
The 1TB version for $137.55 is probably the best bang for buck SSD at the moment.
Vast majority of users will not see any benefit from spending ~$50 more on a WD Black SN750 or Samsung 970 EVO.
How do you think it stacks up against the Kingston?
They're close enough to likely not feel any difference.
Both are TLC so pretty sure TBW endurance is identical.
For long-duration file transfers the A2000 has a larger cache so can sustain higher speeds for longer, but the Sn550 is faster when both exhaust their cache. A2000 has DRAM but Sn550's controller is able to substitute for it …
Bottom line is performance is basically a tie, so I'd just default to whichever is cheaper.
Also worth mentioning that the A2000 was linked with some serious stability issues when also using RGB software, but from what I've seen, that seems to be resolved by now.
Why you say not the best? Ok for gaming? Just wondering…..
