That's correct. I'm tempted but apparently heat can be an issue with these products, and I'd prefer a "name" brand one if that's a concern.
Plastic outside and only tiny vent holes, this looks pretty toasty

@Dienk: No, I was expecting the outer shell to be a metal heatsink like other brands.
Good NVME drives can get very hot.
An internal heatsink without any way to actually radiate the heat away seems like a very bad design.

This part is to convert the R43SG's NVME connector to thunderbolt 3. You'd still need a power supply to power the GPU itself.
I'd just be concerned that GPUs can draw up to 75W through the PCIe slot alone before adding 6/8 pins
Yeah the R43SG doesn't draw power through thunderbolt. It's all powered by connecting a PSU to the R43SG and GPU. The T3-NVME would only be for data transfer.

Very much something that people do. You can find many examples of it on egpu.io
Your drive would roast inside that thing if you are doing longer file transfers.
Just confirming, this wouldn't be backwards comnpatible with usb-c 3.0 right?
