Is this any good? What other brands/unit would beat this please? I need a good hammer/normal drill. Any advice would be appreciated

    • I have a B&D kit. Its what I would call a middle ground between ozitos and say panasonic aeg de walt or stanley or true professional gear.

However I would recommend everyone pass on B&D simply because the company doesnt support its products. They dont release new products that use their 18 volt battery system. You cant buy them from any majors.

IMO you're better off with Ozitos powerxchange system since they support what they sell.

However saying that the B&D kit like the above is a GOOD middle range setup. I've used my system which is like the above and it has never let me down in a profesional environment.

    • Do you need the hammer part?

I have this kit and it has been great. Drill and impact driver with a proper charger, not the slow one the B&D comes with.

Also picked up a reciprocating skin for it which has been really handy. Can use the fatmax skins or the Porter Cable 20v skins from amazon.

      • Thanks for that information.

I'm not sure the 18v batteries will 100% work in the porter 20v system. I do notice that in the US they have 20v? This opens up a slew of questions and possibilties. Porter Cable is getting out of the power tools line. They are cheap because they are orphaned. THis is not a big deal if you're not buying into a 'family' but even so, dead batteries and not being able to replace them means your skins are useless.

That info about compatibility with Stanley is invaluable however you're better off checking if your B&D batteries work in a B&M (so to speak).

To further add to this mess I heard B&D is also compatible with Craftsmans!

Again all these companies all are owned by the same mob.

        DeWalt – power tools; B & D acquired in 1960
        Porter-Cable – power tools; B & D acquired in 2004
Black & Decker – acquired (via merger) in 2010
        Craftsman

      • Hi duff5000 yeh I do, I need a hammer drill to be able to do works on concrete walls and bricks. Do you think this b&d unit is good enough or should I look for a more powerful one?

        • How many times in a week/month/year are you planning to use this? If it's for the occasional picture hanging this should be more than enough. If you are going to drill into concrete/stone on a regular basis I suggest you to buy a rotary hammer such as this one instead.

          • @bio: Hi bio it will be pretty much for every day use due to the nature of my work. Tech for NBN. Ok thank you very much, I'll research the link. Appreciate the help
