  • does this come with an AU plug?

    • Should do, I bought one locally and it came with AU, UK and EU plug adapters.

      • ye but if I buy it from amazon uk or where this is from does it come with a uk plug or an au plug?

        • It says international edition, so I'd say the SKU is the same given the AU one has a UK plug as well.

      • Same.

      • Same.

  • That is cheap, usually over $100AU

    • +1

      $129 from LIFX

    • I bought one from Officeworks to test one out just 3 weeks ago $128 :\ Had been looking for a while and found no deals.

  • should I get the extension also?

    • Depends on how long you need. Comes with 2m, you can extend them up to 10m total. Depending on how much you need might be easier and ironically cheaper to buy a second one instead.

      • can you connect two starter kits together to get 4m total?

        • I am pretty sure you can extend that far but best check on the lifx website. If you can you will end up with a spare controller which is no big deal considering the price of 2 starter kits probably is cheaper than buying extensions.

        • +1

I have done exactly this, I can confirm that it does work. Just joined 4m worth of strips together and it works fine. Although it took a couple of goes to set up as one section wouldn't light initially.

I also used a 1m wire extension between the two 2m sections to bridge a gap where no light was required and it works off one control unit.

          • @sutherland978: ok thanks also was thinking about would I be better off getting the beam as I want to have the lights in the middle of my wall and the strips don't look so good

    • Do you need more than 2m?

  • +1

@eckers19 Yeah, I just double checked mine and the light strips all have the pins on the end, so they're basically 1 male end one female end. So two starter kits would work for 4m.

  • +1

Great price paid around double for mine locally.

    • And? It's $32.36 in this deal…. Or $59.86 for another starter kit which is equivalent to 2 extensions…..

      • ye but easier to return to David Jones if you have a problem then to amazon

        • I've had a problem with an LIFX bulb before, skip DJ's and Amazon and just contact them, in my case they just straight up shipped a replacement no questions asked, no return required, and it was 3 ish years old. :o

          • @[Deactivated]: some crap about not accepting returns at the moment, and to put on an email waiting list. one of my strips went faulty after a few months and now cant put in a warranty claim.

  • got 5 min ago, was going to post here but forgot xD also, the mini lamps are with a good price!!!

  • Can this work like hue sync where it syncs colours according to the output on your monitor ?

    • I don't think this edition has that working 'out of the box'. But it's possible with some effort.

      eg:
      https://www.reddit.com/r/lifx/comments/dhu5vp/introducing_ma…

    • it works with razer synapse, so you can control the lights to do that in the app (i think)

      • +1

Maxlifx z works better, forgot what the issue with the razer software was, I think it can control the zones so stuck with single colour only.

  • will this deal go quick?

    • I don't think anyone knows how much stock Amazon has reserved for this, it's set to last another 44 ish hours, but who knows.

  • It's a great price for a brand name everything-you-need strip, but I can't help thinking that the missus has just got used to voice control for the Hue lights, bringing this in would add a level of complexity (ie - another app, doesn't easily operate together) that doesn't have great WAF.

I'm trying to thing of where I could put it that would work in a standalone manner, or faffing for ages in HA trying to get the two systems to work together.

    • I need to get HA working to integrate some old LIFX lights, but these are Alexa/Homekit/Google Assistant compatible out of the box so if using voice it doesn't really need another app once they're setup.

I'm using Hue motion sensors to turn on my LIFX lights via Homekit and off via voice in Google Assistant :o

      • Or I can just buy now and think later…

  • +1

great price, I bought it for over $100 about 4 years ago and still going strong! Beautiful colours too

  • just wondering will the strip goes yellowish? the ones I got from eBay all from white to dark yellow now… look like fry trap now : (

    • I don't know, I don't keep mine above a fryer or in the sun. Only bought one a few weeks ago so….

    • +2

mine does not; have this strip for the past 2 year-ish

  • +1

Been waiting for this to come down, was hopeful to get for about $70 but this is even better than expected. Thanks

  • Thanks OP great find!! Been looking for a discounted price for ages.

  • Thanks op! Returning my hue starter kit because of this deal!

2m hue is the same price as 2x 2m starter kits!

  • +1

What do people use these things for?

    • +3

Back of TVs / monitors to add a backlight glow, underside of shelves, kitchen counters.

Heaps of uses if you're creative.

    • Behind the bed frame
I also combined the light strip with hubitat (and smartthings motion sensor) to help brighten the room for number one urge at night :)

  • should I get these or the beam for in a bedroom
    think the beam looks better

    • I'm going to put mine in something like this:
      https://i.pinimg.com/originals/9a/f2/1d/9af21dde17912497d4ac…

But can't find exactly what I want, have to keep looking.

These are best not exposed directly, so either for below cabinet lighting, behind furniture or inside a profile with a diffuser. Otherwise they have normal bulbs. I haven't seen the beam one so don't really know how it looks in person.

  • +1

    Got one. Not sure why.
So anything else needed to get this to work? Like a Hub or something?

    • LIFX connects each bulb/strip directly to wifi, no hub needed. So I guess a minimum of a phone to setup and a decent wifi access point if you end up with lots of them.

      • Sweet. Are these compatible with the Philips Hue?

        • Different system so no.

        • if you connect it with hubitat, it can

  • Got 2. Hope they are worth it.

  • Does anyone know how to DIY this into a HUE gradient light strip alternative?

  • Thanks got 2 too. I've got 2 Xiaomi ones already and these look even better for around the same price.

  • Does anyone know why I keep on getting "this item cannot be shipped to your selected delivery location. Please choose a different delivery location" error?

    Thanks.

  • Are these strips gradient as well? Like it shows in it's pictures where there are multiple colours at a time?

    • +2
      • That is awesome omg! Thank you. Sold.

    • +1

They are. You can paint different colours for different parts in the app.

      • Thanks so much!

  • Its coming up with full price for me? Prime AU user.

    • just ordered one for $59. not sure whats wrong!

      • when I go to my check page its shows full price?

    • Still shows the discounted one for me, have you got another seller selected? Prime expired?

      • Nope, click on link to the seller and just reactivated my Prime.

  • Just bought, thanks! I already have two of these and they’re excellent. I bought some instant Suncorp 3% off gift cards to make it $58.

  • ordered 3 starters and and an extra 1m - not 100% where they are going but already have about 40 lifx lights, so these will find a spot too.

  • Anyone know how many LEDs per metre / how bright these are? Looking to compare this against the chinese ones.

    • +1

They're 700 lm per m (1400 lm for the 2m kit). Looks like 48 white AND 48 RGB per M (96 total per M). It looks like @ about 3500k white the RGB ones are mostly off, it uses them to make the light cooler or warmer (or different colours) than that. Still bright AF.

      • If I wrapped a few metres of these around say a pendant light, do you think they're bright enough alone to light up a room?

        • +1

Depends on the size of the room, exposed they don't look 'ugly' but they're not pretty if you just wrap them around something as you can see the LEDs, at least when not at full brightness. They really should be in a LED profile or lighting a wall etc, which will lower their effectiveness a little.

Most rooms in my place have 2 of the original 1000 lm bulbs in them, behind a diffuser which is still plenty bright for medium sized rooms, I usually run them a little dimmed. So probably 3m behind some sort of diffuser would still be more than enough. Might get away with 2. I think you'd need more if you were lighting a wall and using the reflected light to light the room, but I guess it depends on the mood you're going for.

      • Thanks for the useful reply.

  • +2

Fyi for anyone getting these, you can use maxlifx z to sync to screen colour. It works ok, not sure how it compares to hue though. Not entirely accurate, I'm using a 2m strip on the back of 34" monitor held down using 3m light clips.

    • TBH what's in those videos for maxlifx don't really compare to what I get with philips hue play (so with philips' strip too, I assume). I mean the light power, color and time sync + philips work straigh out of the box.

  • Anyone know if there are voltage drop issues (i.e. uneven brightness) beyond 5m lengths?

LIFX Z is expandable, and has a maximum output of 2800 lumens, with a maximum of 10 strip sections connected. Each strip section has a maximum output of 700 lumens.

I'm not sure it will be uneven but looks like > 4m and the max total output is reached so will probably be turned down across the length. I think I'd probably cap it at 5m for practical reasons and just buy additional controllers for longer.

      • Nevermind - googled the answer. Thanks anyway

  • Will this 2m led strip be enough for 65inch Tv

  • Sold out? Only seller has them at like $200…

    • Yep

    • Looks like it's gone now. Only the extensions left.

  • Can i please buy 1 from someone ?? Please message me im happy to pay you a little extra

    • Anyone please.

Otherwise i guess im waiting till next year

      • +1

May be you can get it on black friday or around Christmas sale?

  • I put them on the ceiling of the living room but regret the choice because they’re not good for eyes when other lights are off and if I wanna remove them, they’re peeling off the paint. Any suggestions? Thanks.

    • LED strips don't normally look good on eyes so you are better off hiding it so it can't be seen but only where its light is visible. Behind the couch, under the kitchen island bench, behind the bed head, behind the tv or the entertainment unit are few of the places where I use them and love it.
