I used to use the second method but haven't tried recently. Kindle DRM can be removed and the book can be converted to other formats (like ePub). YMMV.

I've just ordered one (switching from Kindle). Not expecting any compatibility issues - normally Calibre will handle any conversion requirements - https://calibre-ebook.com
Could you please explain why you are looking to switch over to the Kobo Libre? I'm just about to buy my first e-reader and torn between the Kindle Paperwhite and the Kobo.
What features of the Kindle are lacking and what features of the Kobo are attracting you?
Mainly Overdrive support for borrowing e-books from the library. Kindle doesn't currently support this.
Overdrive, better comic support, more open source.
@MasterScythe: Looks interesting - what extra features are available on the Kobo via customizing through the open source nature. I am waiting for Prime Day tomorrow to see how much the Paperwhite will drop to before deciding tbh.
@sezy1994: Paperwhite is $149 now https://www.amazon.com.au/Kindle-Paperwhite-E-reader-Waterpr…
@LowRange: Thank you!
How do you convert books that are in the kindle app or account?
You may find more information here - https://www.reddit.com/r/kobo/comments/f0q65f/how_do_i_trans…
If you're a student with access to unidays for 10% off Booktopia, the Black version comes out to $203.54+$7.95 shipping or $211.49 total. Not sure if the $5 savings is worth it though considering HN is easy to deal with for warranty purposes.
Thanks for your insight there;
I would want a sleep cover to go with it, and I see it's $33.35 via Booktopia, vs. $44.00 at JB!
Why wouldn't you just get a tablet and the Kindle or Google books app? I thought Kobo was dead by now.
If you read a lot in daylight and lowlight, these are superior - no glare in the sun, can have a low backlight for reading in the dark. Tablets and iPads have been around for a long time but have never taken the place of a dedicated ebook reader because they have glossy screens. The eInk is much easier on the eyes.
It's light, has long battery life and e-ink is easy on eyes. Plus I think this is waterproof so you can read anywhere, mostly.
Why?
No eyestrain / glare
Long battery life
Cheaper
Waterproof
Lighter
No blue light
Kobo is still hanging on - but Kindle is still number 1
I would consider a Kobo though - but support for the kindle has been just amazing
One is like reading a screen, light beaming at you.
One is like reading a book, or I guess, an etch-a-sketch, with physical 'ink' stuck to the page.
Most of these also use a FRONT light too, reflecting light onto the screen, rather than beaming it outward from the device at you.
There's literally no comparison if you've used both.
Thanks Op, was after one of these since my kobo got hijacked by my mrs.
Really like the Kobo over Kindles, they don't lock you into their system (Apple style), accept more formats so I can buy a book from anywhere and side load it in with out conversion.
I have the Clara HD now, love the compact size and portability, but I've been experiencing some hand strain during long reading sessions.
I'm eyeing the Libra H2O for its more comfortable shape and buttons to turn pages.
Only concern is I feel a bit wasteful having both perhaps.
Anyone in the same boat, or have any helpful advice?
you could get a case or cover maybe, dunno if it will help make it more comfortable.
Completely unrelated, but I must say I'm impressed with kobo's ongoing support for their product line. I have a Kobo touch that is 9 years old long discontinued but its still getting regular firmware updates and works a charm.
Totally agree with you, my partner's old Kobo Touch received one of the latest updates too!
Yes I love using the sleep cover, handy to stand up on a desk.
However i enjoy reading in bed most of the time.
Appreciate your input :)
How much manga can this hold?
And will I sorely miss expandable storage, given the Clara has this?
8GB worth.
And possibly, depending if you have more than 8GB of content you need quickly accessible.

Enjoy :)
Black or white?
It’s so hard for me to choose colour
(I’m a man)
Black. White can stain easily.
White. Black can get unnecessarily arrested.

All lives matter.
@Wardaddy: Agreed 100%
I tried to get JB Hifi to price match this because I have a gift card that I can use but they refused to because it's online only… Isn't everything online these days??
I price matched successfully, with the total coming in at $215.95 due to Gerry's shipping fees.
I could only opt for delivery anyways, so it was hard to argue.
I tried another store and got it price matched
What store?
@silverrat23: This was the Nunawading store. They even personally delivered it today for no extra cost.
@Kine: Lucky! Had the option to pay another $5 on top, so I stuck with Express Delivery instead.
I really like this device but I've got everything on Kindle. Only if the content was cross compatible.
