LG 21.5" Super IPS226V-PN Full HD Widescreen LED Monitor $175.90 Delivered

70

Seems a great deal for a true IPS screen. Cheapest for this model was around $225 elsewhere, so I don't think it would be easy to find this kind of quality very often. Seems to include DVI cable as well which some others don't always.

  • 23-24 inch's are around this price…what is the benefit of buy this one?

    • IPS is worth it.

      • Yes, even though TN panels are better than they used to be, IPS is still far nicer to use, and especially when they are available at the price of a regular panel!

Ok well i have no knowledge about IPS, so i googled and found this at wikipedia:

          "In-Plane Switching (IPS)

In-Plane Switching was developed by Hitachi Ltd. in 1996 to improve on the poor viewing angle and the poor color reproduction of TN panels at that time.[6] Its name comes from the main difference from TN panels, that the crystal molecules move parallel to the panel plane instead of perpendicular to it. This change reduces the amount of light scattering in the matrix, which gives IPS its characteristic wide viewing angles and good color reproduction.[7]

Initial iterations of IPS technology were plagued with slow response time and a low contrast ratio but later evolutions have made marked improvements to these shortcomings. Because of its wide viewing angle and accurate color reproduction (with almost no off-angle color shift), IPS is widely employed in high-end monitors aimed at professional graphic artists, although with the recent fall in price it has been seen in the mainstream market as well."

SOOOOOOO, in a nutshell it gives a better angle of viewing? If so wouldn't this be pointless with a monitor being as you sitting right in front of it? I mean it would be good for a TV but not for a monitor so much right??????

Try moving your head 1-2 inches up and down from a TN panel and you'll see a massive shift in colours. Its not so much as not being able to see the picture, its the screens ability to retain true colors as much as possible at any angle.

There is also the colour rproduction. Put a TN side by side to an IPS and you'll see a clear difference. Colours are more accurate and there is no greyish wash over the picture.

        • IPS looks better even on a small screen. At JB Hifi, compare IPAD/Asus Transformer (IPS) vs Acer Iconia(TN).

When you compare and IPS to a TN monitor directly, you begin to realise how much colour accuracy you're missing, not to mention the colour shift.

Whats colour shift I hear you ask? (as mentioned in the Wikipedia article references by figarow)

Load up this page on a TN monitor : http://www.lagom.nl/lcd-test/viewing_angle.php

Now move up and down slightly.. You will notice the colours shift in the words from red to a blue - on an IPS panel there is significantly less shift and the words lagom maintain their colour far better.

IPS panels are not perfect, but once you've used one, you don't want to go back to a TN..

They do however use slightly more power…

    • Thanks for the explanation, i get it. And yes i see a huge color variations on my "TN" panel. Cheers :)

  • Damn.. Wish there was a 24" IPS at this price!
