Would rather purchase from centrecom, a trusted brick and mortar store
I don't know saveonit, but I've only had great experiences with Centrecom, so for the cost of $50 I'm with you there.
Do all games support these type of monitors? Seeing a few deals in ultra wide ones lately
No not at all, and very few would natively support this extreme ratio
@Raynes is correct, the support for this ratio can be pretty spotty. I own one of the Samsung 49" with resolution of 3840x1080. Most current AAA titles I've played over the last year support this resolution ratio natively but there are quirks attached to that.
Real time cutscenes tend to be the ones that are most overlooked and are only available in 1920x1080. However, there are mods you can do to the EXE or game mods/config edits that can get cutscenes working fine too so far for all the games I've been playing.
Games I have gotten working fine with a really nice immersive experience are: Horizon Zero Dawn, Hitman 2, Shadow of Tomb Raider, Rise of Tomb Raider, Witcher 3, Watch Dogs, Ace Combat 7, and Batman Arkham Knight. HZD, Witcher 3 and AC7 needed a bit of research online and editing the game files directly to get the resolution working in-game and also with real time cutscenes. If you are into gaming for the story/immersion of it, I think a 49" screen works very well for that :) if you are into competitive/online gaming etc, I would stay away from these weird resolutions, just not worth your time and also might trigger anti-cheat systems when you edit those EXEs. Then again, I suppose you do have the option of playing a competitive game unedited window mode at a 16:9 resolution - but is that worth the extra cost of the unused pixels outside this window.
I would probably not recommend the hassle if you were trying to play any games older than 5 years on this monitor as well. I reckon the support would be very spotty once you look at games older than that. Witcher 3, RoTR, and Batman AK works, but I don't know if any other games from that generation or earlier work nicely.
Crysis, diablo3, Torch light 1,2, Euroturck 2, left 4 dead 2, titan quest 1,2, GTA4 and 5, counter strike, quake 2, etc… they are all support 5k super uwide natively support and experience is great. All 5 yr plus old games. And there is a application can fix the cut scenes and you can search from reddit ultra wide page. I have been using 34 ultra wide and now I got 5k super ultra wide. 5k is really awesome. Once you taste 5k gaming, you would never be able to play again on 16:9.
@Jamie777: Ah there we go, a lot more games proven to work! Didn't realise Torchlight would support it!! Might need to go back and play that.
Hah yeah, I could never go back to less than 32:9 resolution ratio again, this is just too nice, literally having two 16:9 27" monitors next to each other - without the annoying bezel down the middle!!! I can only imagine the quality improvement once you go to 5120x1440 over my 3840x1080.
Just another note though, not all cutscenes are fixable, there are some games with prerendered cutscenes (heck even HZD had like 3 prerendered ones), those will play back in only the max ratio it was rendered in, and probably upscaling to get it to whatever resolution you are at. But if the game is doing real time rendering of cutscenes, then yeah definitely are ways to make that work without the pillarboxes.
I have the Dell 49" 5160x1440 and many games support it just fine.
The new Squadrons does, as does Comanche. YMMV
Got one last year for 1.4k. Totally worth it
too bad I am already in love with my $79 21" monitor
