These are the WD40EFAX model and are SMR drives. I would not use these for RAID. The original non shingled ones are WD40EFRX.

    SMR no
    CMR yes

  • Spend extra for WD40EFRX you wont regret it

WD needs to take this crap off the market and call it something else and not a nas drive.

I wish i hadn't bought 6TB SMR disks (WD60EFAX-68SHWN0) for my QNAP when changing drives, badly regret it but don't wanna spend again to replace them :( :(
I run them as RAID 1 mirroring , performance is not great , trust me :((

    • If you bought them from an Australian retailer, return them as not fit for purpose

      • Thanks for the advice mate,
i bought them couple of months ago , you recon i can still return them?

  • Just had one of my 4 6TB WD Red FRX drives fail after 2 years and had to RMA it to Malaysia. Looking online, they aren't the most reliable.

  • I checked my old skool cool 4tb red it was CMR. Now you know.
