Worth it to spend an extra $14 to swap one of the HDMI ports for a DisplayPort port? https://www.dell.com/en-au/shop/dell-24-monitor-s2421hs/apd/…

    • +1

yes, lets you use freesync over displayport with nvidia gpus.

      • hi,
        sorry for my ignorance.
Do you need a hdmi to displayport cable to utilise its freesync?

        • +1

If you have an AMD gpu you can use a hdmi to hdmi cable.

For Nvidia gpus you’ll need a displayport to displayport cable, adapters won’t work.

          • @Tatari: I have a 2015 XPS 13 and just bought this monitor hoping to connect it with a usb C to Display port cable. Are you saying that this won't work?

            • @haggertm: The monitor itself should work fine with your laptop, not sure about freesync though- probably not.

              • @Tatari: Thanks for the clarification. I'm just using it to watch lectures for uni and general web browsing so I don't think that will be a big deal for me.

    • +5

That one looks height adjustable too, that is definitely worth the $14 for me

    • I'd say yes, it seems to swap the port plus that model has an adjustable stand.

    • +3

the s2421hs comes with an adjustable stand, definitely worth it

    • +1

Definitely, that's the real deal. Sorry OP :P

    • purchased! :p

    • Looking for a budget monitor between 20-24" and around $150 for my 13" Macbook. Is this the best choice?
      Could anyone provide some suggestions?

      • I think this (24") would be good. I got a HP 21.5" one from fb marketplace and feels it's little bit smaller, but can't complain as i paid $30.

Just curious. Do you folks pref new 24" for $150 or A grade used for $110 delivered?

Money is not an issue, but def putting some old displays to good use and minimising landfill.

    • If you're getting it from dell outlet, generally, you have a year warranty on it.

    • If used for less than 1 year, can get receipt for warranty and shipping doesn't cost you extra, I'd go for $110 one.

    • I think $40 extra for a new model is better..
since is not much more expensive but the internal and external parts would be brand new and you get longer warranty

Which A grade model are you looking at?
how old is the A grade model?

    • +2

I too am curious where you have found it for $110?

      • Yeah. there's some crazy prices some people are putting on their 2nd hand ones thanks to Covid.

      • Bought a 23" IPS used HP from eBay few months back for $105 delivered. Monitor being 2-3yrs old, and very close to a new unit. https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/383563510354

Bought a "barely used" Dell P2219H (still within wty) off gumtree for $110.

HP 231 for $110 + Del - discount (eGC etc) from Catch https://m.catch.com.au/product/hp-elitedisplay-e231-23-inch-…

EBay (or directly from the seller's online store) is generally the place to look.

I have camped out for a few weeks before finding one with the right condition/price. Definitely not hard. Might be a few years old, but good commercial grade ones are generally built to last.

        A few tips whilst camping:
        1. Know the naming scheme across manufacturers Dell is series/model + screen size + yr of release. HP is series/model +screen size + version (1, 2, 3 so on).
        2. Know which year the specific models are made (age)
        3. Know the spec of the monitors (colour accuracy, panel type, connectors, pivoting stand etc)
        4. Ask seller age of the monitor as well whether their A grade is indeed an A grade.

        • Some good tips! Thanks.

  • Can I use the display port to pair another monitor

    • No.

  • +1

Should I upgrade to it over my current Dell U2311H (23"/IPS/60hz) or wait for a 120hz?

Does the 75hz and FreeSync make a big difference?

    • I also have a Dell U2414H, spect of which says 1080 p optimal resolution. Does the above native 1080p display make difference? Thanks.

  • is the backlight even on these models?

  • I love dell

  • Thanks man. Current third monitor isn't IPS and is utter shit where it is. Hopefully this guy will get used more.

  • can someone please recommend a DP to DP cable, 2-3m is fine. amazonbasics? or this
    https://www.amazon.com.au/Cable-Matters-Gold-Plated-DisplayP…

    Thanks

  • Sorry for the noob question. Would I be able to hook this up to a Dell xps13 laptop?

    • Your laptop has a DisplayPort output while the monitor only has HDMI inputs. However, a DisplayPort to HDMI cable should work in this case.

  • Is dell better than Samsung at this price range?

    • Depends on the monitor and panel used by Dell.
It is not possible to just compare brands, you need to compare the model.

  • Oh this could be a solution for a three screen flight sim desk! Cheers OP!

  • Two of this or one 27 QHD? Same price!

    • I bought two of these

    • +1

If for work, definitely two 24's. It will drastically reduce the amount of shuffling through open windows.

      • +1

Or best of both worlds 27" for main monitor and 24" for side monitor. I find it's the perfect balance, sure screens aren't the same size but i find 2 x 27's getting a little big and more head tilting involved.

    • One thing I'm thinking of is 27 QHD ddp is roughly 20% denser so text looks shaper.

    • defs go for the 27 QHD, gives you more options later if you decide to get a second panel and futureproofing.

  • This or SR350 ? at circa $159

    Thanks mate - placed order

    Thank you purchased

  • Showing original price as $199

  • So what's the benefits of display port

  • Any of these Dell 24" models come with built-in speakers?

    • +1

I got the s2421h model that came with speakers inbuilt. Good monitor and pretty clear. Only bad thing is the stand is only tilt adjustable. Will need a new stand or monitor stand to account for this. Also it has only hdmi ports, which is not compatible with gsync. However even without gsync I notice an improvement in gaming compared to my previous 60hz monitor.

  • Thanks .. I got one.

  • What is the best adaptor if you'd like to drive two monitor from a Macbook (only with usb-c)
