Which Brand - Bosch or LG Washer and Dryer?

Hi ozbargainers, I'm on the hunt for a washer and dryer (not combo two separate machines). And would like to know your thoughts and recommendations on what you think about whether we should go with bosch or lg. They are essentially the exact same price, and have same warranty and similar functions.
10kg washer and 9 or 8kg dryer.
Any reason to go with one more than the other? Or much the same?

  • Got both in different places (series 8 vs LG ToTL). Both good. Comes down to price.

5ish years. Not a single fault.

  • Bosch ist gut

      sehr gut

  • If they're the same price then I'd always go with Bosch as they're usually better built, but either option will find you upgrading them before they break.

I've got German made Bosch washer and dryer - i've had the washing machine for a few years, i've had the dryer for a few weeks, both are bulletproof and do a great job.
I froth iDos on the washer.. would recommend.

    • Whats froth iDos mean..?

      • It's an automated detergent dosage thing. So you just slap like 1.5L of liquid in the machine and dont touch it until the machine tells you to refill it.

  • Our Bosch washing machine of ~10 years has been going strong (about 5 loads a week) until this weekend. The motor brushes had failed, but easy (~1hr) and cheap (~$35) to repair. Hopefully we'll get another 5 years out of it.

Although this one was made in Thailand (IIRC), not Germany.

    • that wasn't Bosch tradie repairing it yes? How much was the labour charge, assuming $35 was the part?

      • +1

Nah - $35 for the part and i did it myself. There's a good you tube video on how to do it. It just took me a little bit to work out how to get the motor out easily.

  • We have an LG washer and Bosch Dryer. Haven't had any issues with either. I know that probably doesn't help much, but check productreview.com for the models you are looking at and then get appliances online to price match the best price you can find with the free delivery (and free removal of old appliances if applicable)

My LG 7kg front loader is 15 years old and hasn't missed a beat. 3-4 loads per week. It even handles queen size wool doona relatively well.

If you have the space, buy separate machines.

Not only are washer/dryer combo's less reliable, they aren't very good at drying.

They take longer than a normal condenser dryer and use A LOT of water to dry. Sounds strange, but true.

Not sure about the LG/Bosch (read the fine print), but a Samsung washer/dryer combo took 6 hours and used 150L of clean water to dry a small 3.5kg load.

    • Ignore me, I read a Combo, not separate.

      Bosch all the way.

Personally, I'd spend more on the largest Bosch and go cheapo on a Beko condensor dryer (5 year warranty).

  • I have LG dryer (made in Korea) and LG washer (made in China). Both works fine over last 3 years. I would recommend it.
However Bosch appear reputable aswell, especially if made in Germany.

I would pick the one with the longest warranty, and also buy extended warranty for around ~$150 for 3 extra years.

  • Got a LG 8.5kg top load washer. Used about 3 to 4 times a week for more than 10 yrs. Never had a problem, still like new.
Don't skimp with the water level, better for your washing and the machine.

  • Bosch, LG customer service is crapolla, they took 21 months took acknowledge I had a problem with my washing machine!!!
