Can You Value My PC?

So I built this used computer from parts that I hunted from here and there and I want to know if I got a bargain or got ripped off on the overall.
I will give you the specs and please give me a price range so I know how I did. After a couple of days I'll tell you how much I spent

I5 2500 processor with dh67bl motherboard
8gb kingston hyperx ram
128gb (Brand new) green WD SSD
750gb HDD

GPU is Nvidia GTX 770

Antec PSU 650W

simple case with 2 fans

How much do you think that would cost (all used except SSD)

    Too fiddy

translation for those that don't compute: $250

      • +1

        i think he means $2.50

  • +2

    2500 - up to 10th gen process now, that's a 2nd gen intel processor..
You can get refurbished office comps for $200-$300 with i5-4570

    https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/559800
The only thing barely of value is the GTX 770

  • +1

    I'd say 250 max

  • +1

    Like 175 bucks

  • +1

With eBay sold listing, total $310. Below $250 I'd say its bargain, not bad for $300. I would pay $180 max on this.

    I5 2500 $25
    8gb kingston hyperx ram $45
    WD 128gb ssd $30
    750gb HDD $30
    GTX 770 $100
    Antec PSU 650W $80

    • Where is the motherboard ? :)

      • +1

Wow the motherboard price fluctuates a lot. I'll add that for $65. I'd pay $250 max for resale but $0 for personal use.

    • My sense just looking at the spec list was about $200 is the true value. If it runs Fortnite could be good for kids, though an xbox one s is about the same price too.

  • The PSU is probably the most useful component there…overall maybe $200.

  • If I had to make an offer, it would be $200 max. Not my cup of tea though

  • Worth as much as someone is willing to pay.

  • $200 max even then wouldn't feel like it would be worth it for me but might be useful for someone else. $150 would be my offer.

    • +4

sounds like someone's salty because their bargain wasn't as good of a bargain as they thought…

      • -4

Not really. based on the ebay prices above, I did get a bargain. Oh, and your comment proves my point

    • +3

It is low end items, for it to be any value to me its $200. You cleared spent more time researching, just be happy

    • +1

I think most people, including myself, are providing a price based on our perceived value, not based on researching through eBay and what not. You asked people to give a price range and a range of price is what you’ll get.

As long as you think its a bargain, it’s a bargain and good on you. No need to be salty.

  • +4

Why ask for opinions on whether you got ripped off if you don't like hearing what people have to say?

  • +2

You overpaid, it’s just a matter to what degree.

    • I paid $243. I don't think I overpaid. I would like it if someone of the $150-$175 commenters could compile the same pc for less than $250.

      • +1

Putting in the hassle of trying to find all the old parts indivdually used and the time sink, $250 is worth it to me.

Yes it is old, obsolete perhaps, but no one's disappointed here, just dont expect miracles out of that 770 as the years go by

        • -4

Your feedback is much appreciated. Thanks for sharing your perspective.

      • +1

If that's the pc you wanted, you certainly didn't make a loss. The system basically won't lose it's value anymore as it has already aged quite far, except if the pc breaks down.

        • -2

Thanks. Really appreciate your feed back. You were so helpful

          • +2

@Gelda: What were you expecting? For everybody to be praising you or something? Asking you to teach them your ways?

Not everyone shares the same opinion on bargains…

  • i sold my pc at a very reasonable price a few weeks ago.

    Amd fx 8350
    16gb ddr3 ram
    gtx 1070
    256ssd
    1tb hdd
    coolermaster 700w psu

    I sold it for $700

your pc would be $300 at most $250 if i haggled it down as it is really old.

what people dont understand is anything from 2014 is worth absolute bogus today.

    • feel bad for whoever bought that with the 8350 haha…

    • -2

I5 2500 is equal or even superior to Amd fx 8350 as per userbenchmark
Your pc has 8gb more memory and 120 gb more ssd and 250gb more hdd
all the above is not much significant and makes only about $100 of value more than mine

So the only real difference is the gtx 1070. And it makes $400 difference in sale price?

I agree value of my pc is $350 max to $250 min but certainly not $150 as others have posted above.

      • +3

I agree value of my pc is $350 max to $250 min but certainly not $150 as others have posted above.

Value is in the eyes of the beholder, why are you trying to get people to agree on your valuation of your PC then rejecting others' opinions?

If you must settle on i5-2500 = AMD fx 8350 we can ignore that out of the value proposition.. even though the 8350 was released later than the i5-2500 by about a year, is 8 cores vs four cores.

        8gb RAM +120GB SSD + GTX 770 + 650W PSU
        Vs
        16gb RAM + 256gb ssd + 1TB HDD + GTX1070 + 700W PSU

So the only real difference is the gtx 1070. And it makes $400 difference in sale price?

GTX 1070 alone is worth $300~$400, it's not a new product either.
8GB RAM vs 16GB RAM is a very significant difference.

Your GTX 770 is three generations older than 1070, prices on ebay are $100-$150

        • -1

I got the GTX for $66 shipped.

          • +2

            @Gelda:

I got the GTX for $66 shipped.

            Congratulations on that win.
It still doesn't change the fact your own perceived valuation is higher than most people.

Let's not forget that it takes time and labour to put together that computer, which most people seem to ignore.

I didn't give a valuation, I just gave my own opinion
I'd pay $200 for your comp tops, as my current comp is more powerful than yours.

Just enjoy your comp and game rather than argue about other people's undervaluation of your comp on an online forum..

            • -2

@cwongtech: Lol I honestly never intended for this post to turn into a flame war, but i can't deny that I was a bit irritated by my perceived undervaluation. Looking in retrospect, what did I expect? This is a bargain forum with no shortage of tightarses (myself included) so I would expect lowballing!

Perhaps part of my evaluation is comparing to prices asked by other online sellers

Check for instance this pc I noticed on market place https://www.facebook.com/marketplace/item/202112830908736/

It has much lower specs and the seller wants $250.

              • +1

@Gelda: Tightarses? Plenty of people on here would not hesitate to spend 2-3k, if not more, on a PC if the deal is good. Seeking a bargain doesn't equate to being cheap let alone being a tightarse. It's just that your spec has very little perceived value to most people in the comments. You're not looking for people to value your PC, you're looking for approval and praises.

You: "I honestly never intended for this post to turn into a flame war"
Also you: "Ozbargain is free entertainment. :)"

Indeed, thanks for the entertainment and I'm out. You do you. Enjoying your PC should be the goal here rather than throwing shades.

              • @Gelda: Flame war, you asked for our opinions on value. You didnt ask what would these be worth purchases new today. You didn't come here for our opinions, you came here looking for praise and your own self gratification and got salty when no one validated it or really cared.

  • I'd rather get a used workstation with a Xeon CPU and 8GB of RAM then just chuck a GPU in it. $300 for the computer and $100 for GPU.

    • Makes sense. You can even get the computer for $200. Just have to make sure it's not sff and that PSU is strong enough for the GPU

  • +1

Not that great of a build to be frank. I would put it around $200, I can go out right now and buy
    I5-2500 with cooler $30 fb
    DH67BL $65 eb
    8gb DDR3 1333 ram -$30 fb
    2Tb Hdd -$20 fb
    Thermaltake 650-$60
Note that’s buying each individually, you can probably find someone who’s clueless about PCs and just wishes to let go of something similar for $100

With minimal negotiating and minimal searching. What you’ve gotten really isn’t a bargain, you can certainly get more of a bargain by just finding people who are selling lists of components and negotiating

Furthermore I would look at mining gpus and possibly slapping a 1060 mining gpu inside.

1060 mining gpus were about $60-70 on eBay last month. You honestly don’t even need a 650W gpu, clueless as to where that comes from.

Perhaps you’re more attached and biased because you spent time hunting for the components? I wouldn’t call this a bargain though, getting a bargain and being cheap are two very different things. Also the time you spent on this is worth something and looking for bargains might’ve just made you lose the opportunity to get better components with more cash on hand.

  • Do mine!

    GTX 1080
    i7 6700k
    Asus z170 pro gaming mainboard.
nzxt kraken x52 RGB 240mm water cpu cooler
patriot viper RGB ram 3200mhz 16gb
    samsung 240gb SSD
    2tb HDD
    NZXT Noctis 450 case
    red led bar lights
6 x red led ring fans.
750W psu, it's a good one but I cant be bothered removing the shroud to see it. Gold rated.

Reckon I'd get $1000 for it?

    • Tree fiddy.
      Take it or leave it

      red led bar lights
6 x red led ring fans.

      Not rgb, -1337 points

Hmm $350 does sound good, but I was trying to get enough from it to buy a 3080.

        Let me think about it.

        • +1

personally I wouldn't pay 1k for it but I'm sure if you have it listed on fb marketplace long enough, someone will give you close to around that figure.

          • @Creamy: Yeah I might be better parting it out on ebay. Seems like I can get $700 for just the cpu and gpu without a problem looking at the completed listings. I'd just rather sell it in one go and not have the postage problems. Might be worth it though.

I hate dealing with FB marketplace, so many dreamers and time wasters there! Gumtree FTW!
