Hya not so computer savvy Tradie here , still using a 7 or 8 year old Toshiba P850 i7 1TB laptop for occasional emailing and web browsing ,seems to take up to 5 mins too start till I'm finally able to search something on google.
Its not upgraded to windows 10,over 600gig free on hard drive, has kapersky total security added for another year, was wondering is it still worth using /any upgrades I can do too make in perform faster in 2020 or keep performing for couple of more years?
Or should I just be looking for a new laptop that would stay alot more relevant for next few years hopefully.Cheers

What Scrimshaw said.
You'll need a 2.5" inch SATA SSD; there's plenty of deals for those every other week now and these three below are still available (any of them would be perfectly fine for your needs):
250GB
500GB
1TBCoincidentally, I recently upgraded a friend's almost-identical Toshiba Satellite P850 with an SSD as well as Windows 10 and it's still perfectly serviceable for business productivity, teleconferencing, browsing, multimedia playback and even a bit of CAD work.
If you're not able or willing to do the upgrade yourself (though it's literally 10 minutes of work a YouTube guide can walk you through) and don't have a tech-savvy friend who can help, just buy the SSD and take it to any PC hardware store nearby and ask them what they'll charge for labour to do the SSD install and OS upgrade. It shouldn't be more than $80 dollars.
Awesome much appreciated!!
Asked the local computer stores for 500gb ssd and install plus windows 10 install and memory transfer one said $370 other $400! Sounds Abit steep !plus he said he could see my windows 7 key so the windows 10 would free ,just the labour of data transfer is the dear part ! I've a spare portable wd hdd surely too to use, am I getting well ripped off?!
It's the parts cost that'll be the biggest component of those quotes they're giving you and it sounds like their SSD stock is just not priced competitively.
Here's another current deal on a 500GB SATA SSD for $77 delivered. Plus labour to do the install and OS upgrade, that shouldn't add up to more than $200 and even then I would look elsewhere, as that's a bit steep. $370 and $400 dollars is just nuts, you're more than half way to buying a brand-new decent laptop.
I would suggest you buy the 500GB SATA SSD yourself (for no more than $100 dollars, that's been the going rate for a while now) and then take that and the laptop to your local computing stores and just ask what the labour charge would be to migrate everything to the SSD and upgrade to Windows 10.
Did you try MSY (assuming there's one near you?), they should be the cheapest by a mile.
If all else fails, you could try searching Gumtree or Airtasker for "PC builder", "Computer assembly", "Computer repair", "Computer upgrade" or "IT support" services in your area; most of the results I can see charge around $100 for a full PC build. You just need an SSD install and OS upgrade, so that should easily come down to $40-50 dollars for the labour.
They were correct on the Windows 7 serial key being usable for a free upgrade to Windows 10 (it always has been); that is true, so you won't need to buy a retail copy of Windows 10. It sounds like they just brought that up to act like they were saving you money somehow.
@Miami Mall Alien: Cheers mate ,legend, prettymuch price of the chromebook duet I seen on off here

Upgrade to an SSD. You should be able to buy a 1TB drive for as little as $120~140. or 500GB for $80 or less.
If your computer dies or if you're still not happy with the performance, the SSD upgrade isn't wasted — it can be moved to a newer system.
Just make sure you pick the right type of SSD — they come in 2 types, a 2.5" one (it looks like this)
and a M.2 drive (which looks like this). you will most likely require the 2.5" drive as opposed to M.2.
