      It's part of upgrading a 2012 laptop, and I've got a few more questions;

      If I were to clone the entire contents from the old HDD to the new SSD, would software licenses transfer too?

        Yes, the licenses will transfer.

        However, I always recommend doing a complete reinstall of Windows for that new car feeling.

        Will work perfectly.

        If your install is running fine don’t bother with a reinstall, the clone will be the same only faster.

        I’ve recently been using EaseUS Partition Master
        Free for my cloning, simple and effective.

    I have a MX500 1tb on an oldish laptop and now runs like a dream with windows 10 running on it, it’s amazing what a difference an ssd upgrade can make
