They're probably Just seeing what we too see on the website.

      • Yeah as I said in a comment yesterday, contact centre staff if they're new/not helpful they won't check store stock levels, they instead just search auspost.com.au like anyone else… Which makes calling them a coin flip as to whether it's pointless or helpful.

In store should check if you ask :)

  • Haven’t found anything at chermside, if anyone found stock in brisbane, hit me up!

  • +1

It's 40 once scanned got 2 at Doncaster westfield

  • In store displayed at $199. Should I ask thm to scan?

    • +1

Yes it's 40cwhen scanned just bought

    • yes for sure

    • Scanned at $40 although it was displayed as $199. Was the last piece at my Local Post Office.

      THANKS OP !

      • Which store?

None in stock at Box Hill store.

        • I grabbed 2 at Doncaster. They had a few more in stock. Go quick have a friend going soon as well.

  • I only have a little LPO where I am (Rural VIC) my guy there is waiting for an answer from up the chain. He said if it's true he will lock in all the products I asked for and order them in for me express.

    He will call me today.

    Will see what happens.

  • Scanned at $40 although it was displayed as $199. Was the last piece at my Local Post Office.

I can't believe myself right now.

    • +4

      You're welcome lol

      • Would've never known if not for OP. Any idea why the display price is still $199 at stores?

        • Slackness probs

    • Is post office or LPO?

      • Its a Post Shop. Indooropilly Centre Post Shop, QLD.

  • OP, anything else that may be of interest on your list?

    • Uh I mean if you read or like 'celebrity' cookbooks then probably something you'd like. Heaps of books marked down to $5 or $2.

  • +2

the seagate 4TB is also down to $79, got the last one, ask them for it.

    • Was that portable or desktop?

      • +1

I asked at a post office, saying it was the 4 TB for $79, and they searched their system for product code 88425
When I googled for that, I found an expired ozbargain deal from Feb 2020 for a "Seagate 4TB expansion portable hard drive". But there's very low stock around, so don't get your hopes up.

  • Thanks so much OP. Got the last Y5 in East Melb. Still a few 32 SD cards left.

Nothing at Bridge rd Richmond VIC (went there first).

    • I would have picked the SD Card too, but realised it is SD and not microSD (which I could use in the phone).

The Kingston 32GB microSD card is anyway just $10 on the Auspost website. And the 64GB is for $15. Good deals, I would wait for the next special on microSD cards. Maybe OP can let us know ;-)

  • +1

Thanks OP, winning! There is still 1 left at Beenleigh Post office sqaure, 4207,qld. Staff told me they only know price when scanned.

    • Agree. Even for my case, staff didn't know, only when I told them I'm here to buy only if it's marked down to $40, they did a quick scan on item "48663" and confirmed it is $40.

Those who wish to buy, just walk up to the counter and ask them whats the price for "48663" and they will tell you it's $40. If in stock, pick it up!

  • [VIC] Sold out/no stock at as of 9:43AST

    Melbourne Bourke St

Got the last Y5 in black available in my store.

Out of stock in pretty much all of 5km radius of Glen Waverley

  • Bought as a backup to a backup with a snapdragon 865 8gb as my main and suprised how snappy the y5 it is after disabling transition animations. No dual band wifi though and only updates to september 2019 security patch after installing all updates. Installed asphalt 9 for lols and the game didnt really run. Display is great for the price and gets really bright. Back cover feels high quality but I don't like the long "Huawei Technologies Co. Ltd Shenzehn 518129 PRC"

    • You did all this already? Whoa! Btw, could u confirm what's the model number written on your box.
And does it have NFC? As per gsmarena: NFC: Yes (market/region dependent) - AMN-LX1 only

Alternatively, could you confirm if the phone has NFC and the model number?
As per AusPost Website, it says NFC: Yes.

      • No nfc it says lx2 "Made in China Model : AMN-LX2" below the junk I listed earlier. I live like 1 minute from the post office and bought at 9:01 lol so yes did all that only took 10 min.

        • Oh yeah, got the AMN-LX2 as well. So the listing on Aus Post website mentioning NFC is incorrect.
Not complaining though. Never at this price point.

Btw, Aus Post also mentions "2 year Manufacturers Warranty". Would it really be 2 years?

          • +2

@djoz: i got one too, but i was kinda wanting the NFC for google pay, oh well… still very good buy though. Auspost should have corrected the advertising though.

    • Is it Google certified?

"To check if your device is certified, open the Google Play Store app on your Android phone, tap “Menu” and look for “Settings.” You will see if your device is certified under “Play Protect certification.” "

      • +2

Yes it is. All huawei devices that come with play store preinstalled are though I would presume?

It also has ClearKey 1.1 CDM but Widevine is only L3 so no HD netflix.

        • Thanks for confirming.
          kirt was asking about this:
          https://support.google.com/android/thread/29434011?hl=en

However, this phone has all Google Apps as it was "made public" on 24 April 2019, and the restraining order came into effect on 16 May 2019.

On May 16, 2019, the US government placed Huawei on its Entity List. This government action prohibits all US companies, including Google, from collaborating with Huawei.

This means that Google is prohibited from working with Huawei on new device models or providing Google’s apps including Gmail, Maps, YouTube, the Play Store and others for preload or download on these devices.

Our focus has been protecting the security of Google users on the millions of existing Huawei devices around the world. We have continued to work with Huawei, in compliance with government regulations, to provide security updates and updates to Google’s apps and services on existing devices, and we will continue to do so as long as it is permitted. To be clear: US law currently allows Google to only work with Huawei on device models available to the public on or before May 16, 2019.

          • @djoz: I'm very aware. My point is if it comes with play store preinstalled aka released before may 16 2019 it would be play certified. Devices like the p40 pro are not but don't come with the play store and google apps preinstalled.

            • @gottacatchemall: Ah well, then this is a great grab! How does Huawei manage phones without Google Apps? What are the alternatives?

Boy, this order would've hit their sales real hard.

              • +1

@djoz: Phones without google apps you can sideload it. I have an honor 7c from china which is bootloader locked and doesn't come preinstalled with google apps but I installed them through an installer alongside play services, contacts sync etc and it all works fine.

  • SA sold out of 2TB Seagate.

Went to 1 store and been told only Campbelltown store have it, and rushed over to Campbelltown and got told the HDD has been stolen.

  • Cheers OP, grabbed a Seagate 2TB and one of the phones

  • Anyone see if clothes iron is in stock?

  • +1

    Thanks OP :)
    Grabbed one Y5.
Only one more in stock at Rosny Park, Hobart, TAS

NSW Inner West sold out, saw a lady buy the last two at my local shop when I walked in the store

  • Thanks op bought one, not sure if it’s correct that Huawei has been banned from Google store so I’m not be able to download app from there?

  • +3

Attention Brisbane NorthSide fellow, chermside has 4, scanned at $40. U need to ask the counter to grab it for you.

    • Meet another ozbargainer when i buy the second one for my gf, still one left atm if i’m not wrong (y)

      • +2

Unofficial OzB meetup! There'd be many around I guess. Just that we dont know.

And anyone specifically coming for these deals is certainly an Ozbargainer, as it's not advertised anywhere else.

  • +1

There's 1 left at Farifield. The guy behind the counter wouldn't honour the $40. Unsure if it was updated on their systems as yet so if you want one, try there.

    • +1

Wouldn't honour $40? Even after scanning? That's strange. Did you get one or not?

      • +2

Even after scanning - was still popping up at $199. I got one in Preston.

  • +2

Mitcham (SA) sold out of Y5, 2 available at Unley and 4 at Blackwood.

    • None at Torrensville SA and Castle Plaza SA

  • +1

Thanks OP. Got a Y5 in Central Queensland, still 4 left in the back. Tossing up whether to go get another one as a spare.

    • +1

Grab it, super cheap. Grab 1 20 mins ago and decided to buy another one for my girl friend. Meet a fellow in the waiting line after these one as well.

      • +1

Yes, I was in two-minds to buy two-phones. But my Post Shop had only 1 in stock, the one on display. So that kinda solved my dilemma. Might try around at other Post Shops but I doubt this wont be OzBargain'd.

    • -1

      Which store was this?

      • +2

Rockhampton. East Street post shop. Only 1 left 20mins ago.

  • +2

Went to my local post office and there was a lady already asking, taking all available in displays and also grabbing the ones in back. Hoarded all, did not even offer one to me (i was right there next to her asking the same). The Auspost at counter also did not limit 1 per person. So then had to go to another post office and got the last one which was on display and unmarked (showed full price so the cashier was almost shocked that it was showing 40 instead of 199). On the positive side, i got the 2GB / 32 GB Amber brown colour variant which may not be for everyone's taste but we like it, especially considering my wife will be using it. The sku is probably 414772 for this one.

    • +1

Oh the ladies are on fire it seems. Another one such incident reported above. On the website it is limited to 2 per customer, so should be in-store as well. But dunno if it will be enforced in-store.

Btw, how many did she hoard?

      • +2

I don't know as they had 2 in display and 3 in back. The moment she said she's going to have all i moved aside. Didn't want any drama in an already over crowded post office.
I am sure she's reading OzB and these comments so shame on her.
Also, there are 2 SIM slots and 1 microSD slot. There are 2 IMEI numbers on the box so i think this is indeed dual SIM. Haven't powered up yet - that's for evening.

        • +2

I am sure she's reading OzB and these comments so shame on her.

          Lol.

There are 2 IMEI numbers on the box so i think this is indeed dual SIM.

Yep, confirmed Dual SIM. No NFC though. Could you confirm the Model number on you box?

          • +2

@djoz: Just got another update notification despite it saying up to date earlier. Updates it to the August 2020 security patch colour me impressed! Wouldn't expect updates from such a cheap phone so definitely a pleasant surprise.

            • +1

              @gottacatchemall: Cool! That's awesome.

            • @gottacatchemall: So it's Android 10?

              • +2

@bajirao: No EMUI9.1 Android 9. I got an initial update from june to sep 2019 security patch then it said it was all up to date. Around half an hour later I got an update of over 2gb that updated the security to august 2020 but android version is the same.

          • @djoz: The number of times I've left my wallet at home and Google pay has saved the day.. without NFC, I'll give it a miss.

My Nokia 3 ($45 with NFC) is burning through USB ports at a rapid rate (no idea what causes it, but $2 each form ali express). Hoping this was the replacement..not quite (couldn't get as TCL Plex).

Don't suppose there are two different types of Y5 floating around (ie some dual Sim, some NFC)?

            • @tunzafun001: As per gsmarena, there are 4 models: AMN-LX9, AMN-LX1, AMN-LX2, AMN-LX3

              Points:
AMN-LX1 has NFC, the rest do not
AMN-LX9 is Single SIM, the rest are dual SIM.

What we are getting from Aus Post is AMN-LX2. So Dual SIM yes, but NFC no.

              • @djoz: Cheers. Are the brown and the black the same?

                • @tunzafun001: Yep, that's only a color difference. Specs are the same (i.e. if you're buying either from Aus Post).

@bajiro may confirm the model number on the Arbon variant he got.

          • +1

            @djoz: AMN-LX2

            • +1

@bajirao: Thanks. So, confirmed. The model we are getting from Aus Post does not have NFC, although the listing on their Website says so.

    • +2

Shame on her. The worst of Ozbargain community behaviour.

  • +2

As of 10am still 3 Amber Brown Y5 2019 left after I purchased one and some Pheonix Gold Irons at Newport Beach 2106 P.O. Only HDD left was a 1.5tb WD Elements portable,

  • +2

The last one at Kingston TAS PO - on display with a real price label for $40. Since it was already opened as display model (had some finger prints - but otherwise all new) got 10% off … $36 :-)

    • 10% off as it was already opened? Boy you got a deal on a deal.

      • +1

Yup - especially since it seems like it was actually meant to be $40 off, not $40 RRP. Funny though, the staff must have printed out the new shelf price label and swapped it over even before 09:10 … extra $4 is icing on the cake.. managed to get it cheaper than all of yaz!!! grin

  • +1

Victoria… Nil in… Doncaster, lower templestowe, bulleen, heidelberg

    • None in Mitcham, Nunawading, Forest Hill

  • +1

Thanks OP! Got the Black Y5 from Werribee.

  • any stock left in Vic?

  • Thanks OP. Picked up a Y5 in Sunnybank.

    • FML - only looked at the box this evening and the seal's broken and it's missing the phone. Didn't notice as the person that served me put it in an auspost paper bag. The box has as a big 3 number sticker on the top - is this a display phone where they should have checked? SMH

      • +1

Phew - Got the phone to match the box. It was still on display.

  • +1

    Huawei Y5 2019 Black Unlocked $40 (was $199) - product code 48663
FYI Tweed City Post Office, South Tweed Heads NSW 2485, still has this in stock, just got one no other items were found, still priced at $199, the lady had to check if there was a pricing error.

  • +1

I managed to get a phone for free. I was at my local and saw a guy walking out with at least 4 phones so I crash tackled him to the ground dropping all phones and as he scrambled up to make a run for the Mall exit he dropped one phone. I picked it up and ran after him (slowly) but he got away. Score.

    • +1

      Wait.. what? Lol 😂

  • No hard drives left at mirrabooka, bassendean or palmyra. Possibly none left in the state. Bassendean also sold out of the phones

    • What time were you in Basso asking about the phones?

      • When I got there someone was asking and I left straight away lol

        • +5

I was there at the open - third person in the queue - the two people in front of me were doing regular PO business.

A young couple were looking at the phones on display, definitely Ozbargainers, but little did they know that stock is held behind the counter. They slid to 6th or 7th in the queue, my gosh what a rookie error.

Three tellers at work. Asked my teller about the Y5 Black phone, nervously gave her the product code, she began to look it up on the screen, and replied yes we have them. Then a delivery guy arrives, my teller leaves her position to let him in and process the delivery. WTF!! Meanwhile, the young couple had moved up to be alongside me at the next teller. I immediately thought, hello, bulk buyers.Girl asks about phones. The other teller said "if they're not there, we don't have any". I think they walked out at that point, did they get jibbed? I think so. But I was absorbed in my own unfolding drama.

After seemingly an eternity, my teller arrives back, gets a phone from the "safe", processes it and says it is $40. She looked surprised and asked how I knew about it? I sheepishly said that I read it online, that is how I spend my weekends, I'm pathetic. She said that there were 5 available at that time (probably 9.03am). I'll take it thanks, I stammered.

All in all, an extraordinary mini-experience in the heart of Bassendean. Not quite the same smell of victory as the infamous $150 Galaxy Note 8 drama from The Good Guys Osborne Park, but still, a bit of fun to start the week.

  • Just came back from the LPO Union Road, Ascot Vale. There's at least one Y5 in the glass cabinet with a ticket price $199.

    • It scans at $40, none of the staff are aware of the markdowns, apparently.
