Just got this deal in my inbox.

Pretty nice bargain. I know rrp price sounds inflated (82% off), but i actually bought a pair of these (albeit different brand) from myer last month for my parents, and they were being listed as $149-$169rrp!

i got mine on sale for 30% off, so for $39 for 2 ($19 each!) is a freaken bargain in my opinion! just bought one of each type (deluxe and standard) cause i cant tell the difference, but the deluxe sounds larger, denser and a different shape. for this price for 2 incl delivery, who cares!

anyway, thought i'd share

    What class memory are these?

    • +1

      I'd like to know too, I won't buy unless it's class 10 :)

      • +1

I sent them an email, we'll see what they say.

    • I don't know there have memory class for memory foam!
Can you share some information about that as I did some searching on the net and find nothing about. Wanna learn. :)

  • no idea, doesn't say.

  • +1

I am very sceptical of this deal. If you look around the website of the company selling the pillow they only two things they sell are these two pillows. The website is also fairly sparse.

I would bet that these guys bought a shit ton of cheap memory foam pillows from china and are now selling them off through group deal sites. No one in the world would pay their recommended $149 for these pillows without knowing more about them and the company.

I may be wrong, but I won't risk spending $50 on something worse than the crappy pillows I already have.

    • Not much comes up when you search for 'LifeLux Premium memory foam' which is mentioned on their website. There is one review here: http://www.google.com.au/url?sa=t&rct=j&q=lifelux%2Bpremium%…

From a couple of weeks ago - and this person says they received the deluxe for $25…

      • If you read their site they even say that they try to sell at a discount through deal sites. That means that they sell those pillows at about $25 each all the time and with free shipping. After shipping they are probably getting about $20 per pillow and if they want to make any profit after taxes and overhead they must be paying less than $10/pillow. The cost to make a high quality foam pillow has to be more than $10 each if there is a sustainable market for pillows over $100.
Long story short, there is no chance that these pillows are any better than the $20 foam pillows you can buy at big W etc.

        • holy crap big w has $20 memory foam pillows? :S i got ripped off. Is it on the website?

        • I meant "memory foam" not real memory foam. I don't know if it is big w specifically, but I have seen crappy foam pillows around at bigw or kmart or something that claim to be memory foam but when you actually play with them they are just like low quality yellow foam. Sorry to get your hopes up.

That said, if you want a cheap memory foam pillow that isn't total shit I would recommend checking ikea. I have bought some quality pillows there.

        • i did not know ikea sold pillows! gotta check it out, cause that new massive one in tempe is close to me.

  • Thanks. Does anyone know the difference between normal and deluxe version they sell for $10 more?

    • looks like the deluxe are bigger and denser (more support)

Total bollox. Business/website made up with the only purpose of advertising their pillows at a fake/overvalued RRP to trick people into thinking they are getting a good deal on group buy sites. The website has a 'buy now' button, but it takes you to a contact form?

    • ahh bollocks, the real british way

  • +1

what are the better pillows you can get these days?

    • +1

from what ive researched when buying mine, you really only have a choice between:

      feathers
      cotton
      wool
      memory foam
      or Latex

wool foam and latex are the top 3.
Wool has this springy bouncy property, but shuffles around and flattens over time.
Latex is suitable for hypoallegenic people. but all the ones ive seen are extremely thin and feels like ur sleeping on a giant condom
memory foam was alot thicker and squishier. which is why i went with that.

      • Good info, thanks

  • I agree with Anon….this is misleading and deceptive conduct.

  • +2

the company was only set up on 24 oct

    Lifestyle Luxuries Pty Ltd
ABN status: Active from 24 Oct 2011
    Entity type: Australian Private Company
Goods & Services Tax (GST): Registered from 24 Oct 2011
    Main business location: NSW 2118

    • What a joke..

These group sites need to get their acts together and filter out the crap.

    • Called it.

Got an email response regarding what class memory their foam is.
Maybe someone can compare this info to other pillows:

Unfortunately, we do not use the IFD (Indentation Force Deflection) rating
system, therefore I do not have a number for you.

Instead, we prefer to calculate Foam Density as it is a better indicator
of softness in real world situations.

Our standard pillow has a Density of 60kg/m3
and our Deluxe pillow has a density of 5 pounds per cubic foot or 80 kg/m3.

As a general indicator, the industry accepted density for "High Quality"
is 5 pounds per cubic foot or 80 kg/m3, which is what our deluxe model is.
    This reflects the different pricing.

In most situations, anything of 80kg/m3 or higher is usually rated around
    "10" using IFD standards.

We initally only wanted to offer the one model, but because we wanted
memory foam pillows to be more accessible to everyone, and to allow
children to use them, we offered the standard profile model. It is
designed after the more commonly available memory foams out there, minus
    the price tag.

My personal recommendation is to purchase the Deluxe Pillow as it is more
suitable for adults and our feedback has generally been that it is
    superior in comfort.

    Hope that answers your question.

    • so is that good or bad, i cant tell

    • I don't know it is good or not either. Anybody can give me a straight answer? I am currently looking for a good pillow for my sore neck.

      • I think they are saying theirs is equiv to a class 10 memory foam.. (which I think is meant to be good?).

But who knows if its even true, and why wouldn't they have this info on their site…

      • -1

Density does not have a direct relationship to quality. A pillow full of air could weigh less than 1kg/m^3 but a rock hard pilllow of rubber could weigh 1200kg/m^3 but a pillow made of water would weigh only slightly less like 1000kg/m^3.

Point is these guys are full of crap.

These may be perfectly comfortable pillows, but I would bet annything that they can't compair to nice pillows bought at a store for $100+

        • -1

          I just did some googles,
only problem with your statement is that memory foams are measured based on a predefined surface area and fixed applied force for consistency

so in that case the same surface area (50 sqr inches) on a 4 inch thick piece of foam. US foams are typically measured at 25% indentation or at a depth of 1” with a 4” foam sample.

Therefore your example of 1200kg/m3 rock/air/water is irrelevant becuase given the same size, thickness and pressure, the pillow will score better (a 50sqr inch by 4 inch thick pillow of water, rock, rubber, foam will all have different densities given the same volume…year 7 maths)

Your comparison isnt comparing apples with apples.
obviously 1kg of feathers weighs the same as 1kg of rubber or water, but each 1kg will take up different amount of volumetric space. This is why they use DENSITY.

but you are right in that density isnt exactly a measure of softness, but I can sorta see why they are using that as a measurement

        • -1

My point was simply that Density doesn't tell you about hardness. Gold is more dense than steel but steel is harder than gold. I am a mechanical engineer. I know how they take hardness measurements and it was clear from the email from the pillow guys that they weren't doing that.

Also, I wasn't comparing 1kg of something to 1kg of something else. I was comparing densities, thus kg/m^3 which compares mass per constant volume.

        • -1

^ this guys knows his shit
OR could be a HSC student disguising as a Mechanical engineer.

        • Ok kinda getting sick of being negged to oblivion.

you forgot to consider that they are comparing two objects with consistent material used (they are comparing memory foam with memory foam, so the consistency and composition will be the same, the only variable will be density, which affects the firmness of pillows)

if they were comparing foam to liquid lead. Lead would be denser but the liquid would make it softer. The reason for this is there is more than 1 variable in this comparison, state of matter and material composition.

You are not thinking of this in real world perspective, which made u miss this point. In science, density is not used as a measure of softness, but that does not mean to say density has no effect on softness or firmness, as usually a denser object made of the same material will usually always be firmer given that more of the same material/element is compressed into the same volume of space.

Mechatronic Biomedical Engineer with Material Sciences major > Mechanical Engineer (i.e. smash repairer)

Also, they said that their IFD is 10. So i dont get what your issue is with saying they dont know what they re talking about. I dont see how they can manufacture pillows without knowing what theyre doing. Im pretty sure Groupon put them through some sort of vetting process (i can only hope considering i just dropped $50!)

  • Harris Scarfe is doing 30-60% off all pillows as well.
The cheapest memory foam pillow is $19.95

Not sure the quality, but at least you can try/feel it before you buy.
