  • I do, I do…but I shouldn't, I shouldn't :(

This CPU has been the same price for a year? Surely they can do better than $649…

Expect to wait for at least 2 weeks for delivery for anything coming from VIC. Still waiting for something from Centrecom which is literally 10 mins drive from where I live for over a week now. Unfortunately could not click and collect due to the 5km rule. FFS. Not Centrecom s fault as they shipped it the same day. But it’s AusPost.

I finally received an item from the shaver shop after 4 weeks that was posted literally 2km away from the destination address. AusPost is horrendous atm. All parcels are going to NSW

    • My boss mailed me my permit to travel to work on Aug 26. Still has not arrived.

      • Hmm. Why didnt he just email you? That’s what I did.

        • They did both. Everything by hard copy backup for some reason. The permit is to be signed by both parties.

If you live near a Umart you can pick one up for $629:
    https://www.umart.com.au/Intel-Core-i9-9900K-8-Core-LGA-1151…
This is the newer SKU with the standard cardboard box.
If you want the older SKU with the fancy box it's $645.

Fancy box is worth it :D

  • Why this and not a ryzen?

    • +2

      Why don't you tell us?

      • good question.

since i see so many ryzen deals here that are around the same price, why this over a ryzen?

        • +1

maybe they already have a perfectly working intel board? Just saying.

From OP: Great deal for those that have older motherboards

yeah, ill just force a AMD CPU into my existing Intel motherboard

        I'm sure there's a deal for a hammer here.

        Here's one made in usa.

      • i'm avoid being biased when it comes to choice of tech, so far it seems people have interpreted what i asked as an attack on their favourite brand rather than answering my question?

i'm running an old intel motherboard, doesn't mean i can force this CPU into my current one. soooo.. what's your point?

        • i'm avoid being biased when it comes to choice of tech, so far it seems people have interpreted what i asked as an attack on their favourite brand rather than answering my question?

Correct, that is how I interpreted your question, but Intel is far from my favourite brand.

If you were asking why someone should choose this over a similarly-priced Ryzen chip, that obviously comes down to personal preference.

      • Yep. Don't forget to try to fit a SSD sata into a Nvme port. Apparently word pretty well in amd motherboards with Intel processor's.

        • nothing a dremel can't fix.

      • Wondering if I'm the only one old enough to remember when that was possible :)

    • You get more performance in gaming with this… if you game at 1080p… on one of the highest end GPUs.

      • thanks for the reply! outside of gaming, the performance can be matched by a Ryzen CPU then? or do i need to do more research on the intel side of things?

Currently reading too much of Ryzen reviews and how the new architecture (and new motherboards) is giving me a bad headache.

        • What are you going to use the pc? And how much is your budget? Maybe a ryzen 3300x might be the solution with high clocks and been 1/3 of the price.

          • @Femelo: i don't have a budget in mind. Ok, maybe under $5k just for GPU+mobo+ram+cpu. I don't intend to get the 'highest' model as I don't see the point of having a slightly increased benefit for a lot more money.

i was looking at the ryzen 39xx because of higher RAM capacity options. Of course, having a 'sweet spot' CPU would do nicely. Intel or AMD doesn't quite matter to me. It is largely VM workloads, but I would be sticking in 1 or 2 30x0 GPU when it arrives.

Either way I go, it would be a big jump from what I currently have (a fully maxed out intel Z77 mobo with a 1080).

the only thing i'm might be worried about is the OS level workarounds for the security issues that Intel processor have, which impacts performance. (not sure if this is founded, I haven't been looking too indepth into the matter) For a gaming + intermittent VM machine, I don't think the security is a big issue. The performance hit might be a concern. (possibly outside of this discussion)

oh and i don't intend to overclock, but i'm happy to get a higher end CPU that supports overclocking for a bit more performance.

            thanks btw

Still a beast of a CPU, OC to 5.1 or 5.2ghz and it flies…

    • While sucking enough electricity to power a city and requiring an iceberg to keep it manageable lol.

      • Is it basically a must to use an AIO to keep this CPU in check at 5ghz?

        • Not necessarily, as some coolers are better than AIO (nh-d15). But yea the temps on this CPU when OC can get ridiculous and is notorious for running hot.

          • @nomoneynoproblems: Interested to hear whether anyone has tried running a 9900k with the noctua c14s. No room for a d15 in my case

  • Must resist…

I might be negged for this but if you are just after gaming/high FPS then save your money and get a i5 10600k which is 'almost good as' i9-9900k and rather spend the savings on a beefy cooler to overclock it.

    Check out https://youtu.be/iQVBlCfb72M

Of course if you are after both productivity & gamings than 9900k is the boss CPU unless you have extra $$ for 3950x or 10900k

An i5-10600k plus RTX3080 would be the best bang for buck gaming combo… Happy to be proven wrong (here is hope for Ryzen 4000 series and RDNA2)

    • i'm a bit out of the loop, i recall there was i5 and then i7… is i9 is the zeon class but retail?

    • Would the i5-10600KF be the better cheaper option?

      • For gaming/everyday home use yes I would dare to say i5 is a wiser/cheaper option.

But if you are after productivity then yeah by all means get the i9 or Ryzen9 or even better a thread-ripper CPU.

Then again - the i9 will definitely serve the best for both game and productivity whereas Ryzen9/Threadripper won't clock as high as i9 which will result less framerates
