Coincidently, I own an Estwing hammer that originally belonged to my Great Grandfather who passed away in USA in 1974…seriously. It's still in great condition!

      • +2

I can also relate. Mine was originally my grandfathers who passed it to my father, who as a carpenter used it daily until he gave it to me. It'll outlive me too.

      overpriced

  • big bunnnings threw a big… same day collection or pick-up only for price match.

My local Bunnings said they would NOT price match and beat the ebay deal, some lame b/s excuse

But he did say try another Bunnings ROLLS EYES

who is this for? I have a cheapish hammer for the last 20 years and still looks pretty new

    • +2

Tradition has it that a apprentice starting off gets it from his/her boss as a relationship builder[sic], so s/he gets it even cheaper, as in zip

But s/he has got to go and buy the lunches and coffee, so s/he earned it i suppose….

Some say, that nine out of ten nails prefer to be driven home by an Estwing

      • +4

        Nailed it

      • You hit the nail right on the head with that comment. Bang on!

    • I heard the leather grip handle of the hammer does get damaged and tears when it gets in contact with a bit of water. Can anyone confirm from their experience?

What a beautiful hammer. I have one of my great grandfathers hammers from the 50s or 60s, and while it doesn't necessarily do the job any better, it's always nice to use something that you know if superbly built.

    • plenty of info out there how Estwing leather handle hammers come out of the factory bent, nothing superb about them. they look quite rough if you look at one in store compared to premium hammers.

  • I wouldnt say that its the "worlds best hammer" maybe the best looking yeah. Its great as a show piece / quality but its still just a classic claw design.

Not sure why we dont see many European style framers hammers here. They are so much better in terms of features and functions.

    made of uru metal ?

  • Aren't titanium hammers better?

    • You want something hard for a hammer head (contrary to popular belief, titanium is softer than most steels). Also, titanium is too lightweight to drive the hammer head

Leather grips are crap. Slippery when new, leather shrinks after a lot of use/getting wet /dirty etc. Leather rings end up sliding on shaft.
Get one with the Shock Reduction Grip.

Had my Estwing for 20+ years and still as good as the day as it was bought.
Used it every day for work for 15 years and have never even needed to regrip.
    Highly highly recommended

    • I have a $29 hammer of similar design I've been using 5+ days a week for 5y now and I could say the same and I don't see what could change in another 15y.
I'm tempted to buy estwing just to have estwing, but quality/durability wise they are not exceptional. You pay extra ONLY for the branding imo.
Its a simple - fool proof design copied by many. You can hammer sideways, pry aso.
I'd say estwing is not the best bang for buck. But if you want estwing, you need estwing :)

      Tradies are very brand-conscious :)

They put it up to $110

Fear not, others are still selling it for around the $80's
