Thats a slightly different boot, thats a dynamic flex and this is the comfort craftsman

    • and available in black and brown

    • thats for dynamic flex, these are the better comfort craftsman.

      • +2

Comfort Craftsman is just the style of boot with multiple sole options, one of which is dynamic flex, which also comes with an insole.

        • Agree, both have the same RRP, similar leather, same construction and style. The only different you have stated.

          • @TThomas: I don't know if it's just me but the Dynamic flex seems to have a slightly different profile around the toe, a bit chunkier. Not sure if it's relevant but my Kangaroo & baby cow craftsman (non comfort) are both 8.5G while my D.flex are 8.5H

            • +2

@whitlam: DO NOT GET DYNAMIC FLEX… the connection between the leather and rubber will wear away and ruin the boot.. whereas my comfort craftsman pair are still fine.

    Link is showing $395 ?

    • Even better then!

    • +1

Is linked to another boot - the all rounder and not the comfort craftsman

  • +1

Comfort All Rounder in link is different to the Comfort Craftsman

  • +3

Why these shoes are so expensive?

    • +2

handcrafted / quality leather / paying for brand name

    • +2

      best boots money can buy

    • +1

They will last you at least 5 years. Just make sure to have a rubber sole put on.

      • +10

Will last 10 yrs in Vic

        • +1

Is that because you are not allowed outside for longer than 1 hour, and have a night curfew!?

      • +3

Longer if you get them fixed up - and part of the point is that they can be mended, not chucked at the first sign of a hole.

      • +1

My 2 pairs are now 5 years old and still look almost brand new after alternate day use.

My Kangaroo craftsman also look pretty good despite being covered in mud a couple of times.

Well worth the purchase and will last a lifetime if cared for properly.

    • +1

Super high quality boot and extremely comfortable. As others have noted - they will last for years as well.

      • Genuine question: how are these considered comfortable?

I've tried on several pairs on friend's recommendations, but they always feel like 2 thin planks strapped to my feet - absolutely no heel padding and very little flex in the sole. There's no way I could walk in these for 500m without getting a sore back or feet.

I've tried lots of formal shoes of various styles, and my test of a comfortable shoe is whether I could happily jog in them. If not, then they're style over comfort and not worthy of consideration.

I've found a few brands that make genuinely comfortable formal-style leather shoes (Windsor Smith and Rivers) and while I'll freely admit they are not the highest quality, they last around 2 years of daily wear and I'm happy to buy a new pair occasionally for the sake of outright comfort.

Are these just an acquired taste? Or am I missing something?

        • +1

have to wear them in, like any good boot.

        • All personal, but i thought the same with the leather soled one, then got the dynamic flex which comes with an insole and find them extremely comfortable. Then got some innersoles for the other ones and they felt great too. Maybe try the dynamic flex on to see. Not sure you want to dump $400 on the chance they might be good though

        • +1

I dont know what you have tried on but out of all of my dress shoes these are by far the comfiest. Each to their own though.

    • Cheeers all for quick response

    • +1

because they are not made in chinese sweat shops with poor quality materials and glue.

    • -1

Because Liberal voting corporate bros go nuts for them

      • Yet your lefty heroes like Kevin Rudd and Daniel Andrews wear them.

  • Is this comfort craftsman? It saying comfort all rounder

edit* nvm the link is wrong

  • Does anyone know if rm williams stores price match?

    • +2

      They don’t, unfortunately

  • +2

Prefer my Wolverine 1000 Mile which I got from the US as seconds for $150, RM Williams are nice boots but the pricing has gone crazy in recent years

    • This is about $50 more than getting a lot of other cheaper welted footwear to Australia after shipping and GST is applied. Really not that bad.

    • Bought some wolverine 1000m's from iconic for $400. They are awesome but a bit more on the bulky of things so feel more like work boots than smart casual. Also have Red Wing chukkas (wearing right now) which have a more slim feel and was cheering when i picked them up from Nordstrom Rack in Hawaii for $120 a few years back.

  • Hi everythingaustralian. Is everything made in Australia too?

    • These are.

    • +1

Im pretty sure they still make the boots in Australia however they make some of their other products in China.

    • Hi There, we try and sell as much Australian made as possible. Most of the RM Williams products we sell are Australian made. Each item description will tell you country of manufacture.

  • Anyone have any insight into the differences between these any dynamic flex.

    • Dynamic flex has a removable insole and more arch support - better if you wear full length orthotics. If you wear half length then you will have no cushioning underneath the balls of your feet, so the comfort craftsman might be better. I'm a size 9H in dynamic flex with just my orthotics, and a 9+H for comfort craftsman with orthotics.

Also, the sole of the shoe is ugly and I've heard it's quicker to be damaged.

  • Been looking to finally step up to my first set of RMs, what should I be looking for?
(If it makes a difference, I’ve got kinda wide feet)

Also what price is a good/best price?

    • +4

Honestly try and get into a brick and mortar shop (I know this is hard because of COVID). I'm an 11US but a 9.5AU so it's hard to know what size you really would be.

      • Same for me, I'm an 11/11.5 in Nike/Adidas/Converse but got sized up a 9.5h in store.

        • Wow two sizes less! Im a size 15us but then some dress shoes im more so a size 16us… ill try find a store to try before i buy i think.

          • +3

@zacsg1: More to do with sneaker sizing being shitty in general, and then AU/UK sizing being US minus 1. These run true to size vs other dress shoes/boots, eg. If you wear a UK11 Meermin, you'll be an 11 G in RM Williams - width is the main variable.

        • I'm US13 for Kayano but 10.5 for RM's, but that is loose fit which I'm used to. It's really important to try them on in-store if you can

      • Thanks! Will do it as soon as I can and get a rough size.

        Which design/style would you recommend?
And roughly what price on sale should I aim for?

    • +1

      Yes definitely what DarcyXD said.

The sizing is not standard so go to one of their shops to try out the sizing and take a photo of the tag (you'll need it as you'll probably forget…)

I am usually US10 but the RM Williams size that fits me is AU8/US9 and "G" width… But don't assume it's a size smaller, as I've heard others claim differently.

      Men's: https://www.rmwilliams.com.au/size-guide/Mens-Boots.html

      Women's: https://www.rmwilliams.com.au/size-guide/womens-boots.html

      Width sizing:

      Men's:
      E - Extra Narrow, F - Narrow, G - Regular, H - Wide

      Women's:
      D - Regular, E - Wide

      I know… It's kind of complicated and overwhelming isn't it?…

      • Awesome! Thanks! I’m hoping the confusion is worth it!

      • Normally a 10 in Sneakers?

    • hold up so you wear shoes inside the house?

  • How does this compares to Loakes or Church's?

    • they make great dress shoes, but rm williams are the standard for chelsea boots. i know, i own all of them.
