A bit too late to the party, no?

With the quad core devices around the corner, everyone is going to dump their dual core units shortly.

$200 for a single core low spec'd unit seems too much.

Probably better off waiting for more of the Acer $249 like deals from others.

    • +6

I think CPU cores is a lot less important then the fact that this is Android 2.3 compared to 3.0 or 4.0

    • -1

      "Acer $249 like deals "
Bingo. When you can get a dual-core Tegra-based tablet running a newer version of Android with better battery life, a bigger screen, better resolution and a USB port for $50 more there's no contest, much less a bargain.

      • -1

There is no "Acer $249 like deals". It was just one guy who guy lucky pricing matching with an obsolete deal.

        • +1

Good Guys sold the Acer A500 for $249 a few weeks back, Officeworks did the same thing. I saw them in just about every Good Guys / Officeworks in Victoria that I went to.

      • Not everyone wants a 10" tab though :S

  • Low specs, especially resolution and battery life. Doesn't hold a candle to kindle fire

    • +2

Eh? It's exactly the same resolution as the kindle fire.

      http://arpandeb.com/10/2011/tech/lenovo-ideapad-a1-vs-amazon…
The A1 is far better than the kindle fire .

      • It might be "better" in some aspects. But you have to be kidding to describe it as "far better".

A1 is essentially an one year old tablet bringing nothing new except for the price. Whereas the Fire offers a completely different value proposition. If you want a straight Gingerbread tab, then A1 is it. But if you are in the US, and want to access Amazon's online contents, as well as prime shipping privileges, and a fairly good tablet optimised UI, then Fire is probably it.

      • +2

No, it depends on what you want to do with it.

Kindle Fire has dual core processor, better battery life

Ideapad has offline GPS, dual cameras, expandable storage

then there are unknowns like customized Amazon OS vs phone rather than tablet OS in ideapad, quality of the screens though they are the same resolution etc.

Don't offer your opinion as an absolute judgement especially when there are no proper reviews of either device.

"Everyone is going to dump their dual core units shortly" is rubbish, but so is the battery life and OS of this unit.

  • +1

Plus shipping, free shipping is only for USA.

  • It looks fantastic on paper, in terms of specs, but then again I'm not really well-informed about the latest tablet devices. Consumer expectations are perpetually rising. Quad core chips in a tablet sounds insane!

  • Standard pricing on Amazon.

Besides, this is exactly like the original Galaxy Tab, except its one year late.

    • So can you show me where I can buy an original Galaxy Tab 7 for ~$200?

    • No it was an introductory price . It has now gone up to $230+shipping .

  • The specs are going to be obsolete soon since tegra 3 chips will be released soon. Better wait for the dual core tegra 2 tablets drop their prices imo. If this tablet runs around $100, i could justify in buying it. But not at $200

  • It's only 7 inch screen and as people have mentioned the old v2.3 not really great for me.

    • The form factor us a selling point for me. I am replying on my 7 inch mutant running 2.3. Was and am very happy with at cost of au$99 and this Lenovo is better in every way (except 3G) The 7 inch is the perfect size for ebook reading - 10 inch is too big. If I dropped my mytab down the loo I would buy this in a heartbeat

    • These are both pluses for me, not a big fan of HC on 7"

  • not a bargain.

  • good price if you need a hi-quality build unit now i guess. though 2.3 it will still suffice for most folks.

bought one for a present for Christmas. expedited delivery was us$8.48 for a total price of us$208.47 delivered - roughly a$200

    • +1

Despite the negative votes , Theres not a single deal where you can get the same or better product for less . There is always better for more and something better and cheaper around the corner .

  • No deal

    • +1

vash12, please see our voting guidelines in case you wonder where your negative vote went.

  • most things on amazon, when sold by amazon (not a 3rd party reseller) ship quite cheaply. was looking at a skateboard for $200 here, and was $100 usd plus only $20 shipping (because sold directly by amazon). some of the other sellers charge up to $80

  • IMHO its a decent deal, at least on par with the generally overrated Kindle Fire.

    • I think the Kindle Fire is a dual core tablet.

      • +1

I think you just confirmed why the KF is overrated. This A1 has more internal storage (16GB vs 8GB), more apps(android market vs amazon market), expandable storage, GPS, Cameras, mic, bluetooth, Accelerometer, etc. The KF has a better CPU and a supposedly better battery life (I couldn't find actual usage results).

Your at the mercy of amazon here, they may or may not provide services to Australia or OS updates. It's gonna be tough to run custom roms on it aswell.

  • +1

This is good enough for light web browsing, emails and music and video playing. For many people this is all that they need and it is not too expensive either.

  • +2

These look like similar specs to the Samsung Galaxy Tab running 2.3.4 which I have and I also have an Acer A500 dual core 10.1 inch running Honeycomb. For most things I have tried I don't find the dual core any faster. I assume apps that are written to use dual cores would be better but that would be a minority. And very few people got the clearance sale Acer for $249 so I dont think that you can compare them.
