* MS4296OBSS Black stainless steel - $267.81

eBay Plus free delivery is nice too.

I bought this microwave from a previous OzB deal. It’s good, but the worst thing about this is that the shielding is terrible. Can’t use Bluetooth devices while it’s running without them cutting out all the time.

    • +3

Great microwave. But are you sure the shielding is the worst thing about it?….There is that little tune it plays when it finishes cooking…

      • +2

        can be turned off

        • +3

          It can? :O

        • +1

          How?

I agree the shielding is terrible, my wifi cuts out.

          • @JayParker: Microwaves use 2.4GHz band, use your router's 5GHz band and you should be good.

        • +1

How?! Please, I need to know lol
edit: (Googled it) "press and hold the 'Clear' button then press the 'Keep Warm' button for 5 seconds then the display will show the changing state 'On' or 'Off" of the beep sound"

          • +1

@michaelpls: @michaelpls: Holy hell you absolute star.. I've lived with that bloody tune for years, manual checking and googling failed me.

And this tip worked! You've added years to my life

        • +1

          Please let this be true??

      • +4

I personally like the tune. It’s cheerful.

        • +1

          Same, beats the generic BEEEEEEEEEEPPPPP

        • Me too, I like the tune it plays.

        • I like the first play. But the third or fourth 'reminder' one when you're busy doing something else gets me!

    • +1

This has got me quite concerned about purchasing this, any others experiencing same issue?

      • +2

Yeah I have this microwave and get wifi cut out (but may be my fault as I'm running 2.4ghz wifi atm).

      • +1

It doesn't drop BT totally for me, but it certainly interrupts it..

      • +1

Yes my AirPods cut out, like about 1m distance to it

      • +1

Yep, got it from the last OzB deal as well and experiencing the same issue with Bluetooth. Also, 9 months in to the purchase the microwave developed a fault (didn't heat items evenly) and TGG refused to exchange it. Had to wait 1 month for them to send it for repairs and receive it back. Apparently the magnetron was faulty, which is common issue with this model. I would stay away from these.

        • do you have any alternative suggestions?

          • +1

@xrailgun: Try Panasonic or Sharp. We had a Panasonic flatbed at work which was great. I've seen sharp microwaves last >30 years and still going.

      • Yep, cuts out the wifi throughout my home

    • +2

I was maybe going to pull the trigger until I saw this.. and a few other comments backing it up.

That's a terrible design! I'd expect that from a Kmart branded one, but not LG.

Thinking I might not get it now.

      • +2

I bought it originally cause it was ozbargain favourite.

        My minor gripes:
        - Due to the door design (input pad attached to the door), the door and associated sweep path is longer than it needs to be. For my specific location in my smallish apartment - it means I need to keep more things away from microwave sweep path on my kitchen bench.

        • a traditional dial knob is so easier to use than this microwaves touch style swipey time selector.

With that said, this is my first microwave so nothing really to compare against… It cooks/heats well otherwise….

    • +2

I think the worst thing is you can only dial in minimum 10 second increments, if u ever have to do baby formula/breast milk you’ll see how annoying that is.

      • Pretty sure this model has the scroll bar which can increase time really quick

        • Yes but if u want say 15 secs it can’t do it

          • @donkcat: I have this MW as well, and thats one of my issues with it, not being able to input an exact time.
plus it seems to get a lot of moisture buildup, our previous microwave never really had any.

    • I have found that with all microwaves

      • +1

It didn’t happen at all with my old Sharp microwave. I didn’t even realise it could be an issue until I got this LG one.

        • My running theory was it was due to this microwave having an inverter. My old one didn't and didn't interfere with bluetooth / WiFi.

    • I have this microwave and when ever it's in operation it interferes with the 2.4ghz wifi and cuts off internet access to all the devices. Since then I have connected all my other devices to the 5ghz band and all is well since then.

    • Maybe wrap the exterior with alfoil?

Bonus if you wanted the silver coloured cabinet instead of this white one.

    • As long as my food is warm when I nuke it, I don't mind if I have cancer in 20 years.

    • I thought this was only me! I've fixed the wifi problem with a Google Nest WiFi but it kills my airpods. Never had an issue with my previous 2 sharp microwaves.

Good at cooking, very poor shielding

  • -1

    Great Scott!

  • I have one of these at home, and use them at work.

My only issue with it is the fact that the mandatory "cool" function after use (if it has been on for a while) feels like the microwave is still on. I always end up snatching my food out of there afterwards "just in case."

    • Does the cool function kick in after every time you use it?
I've only had it come on after long use or something that generates alot of steam, which the manual also says it can activate intermittently.
      I hope mine isn't faulty.

  • Does the one with the knob ever go on sale?

  • +2

Sooooo close to pulling the trigger. The Bluetooth experiences are concerning and stopped me from buying.

  • +1

Got this a few months back. It's not bad. Only negatives would be the shielding like others said sometimes interrupts the wifi, and no timer function.

That said, it's sleek and very easy to clean. Does a good job at being a microwave..

  • +2

The shielding issue definitely isn’t that bad, mainly find BT headphones are affected when you’re within a few metres (when it’s cooking).
the microwave itself is awesome with an extraction fan and evenly spaced cooking. Would recommend after 2 +years of ownership and countless crappy microwaves before that didn’t last/cook well/rusted out etc

    • +1

It’s not an absolute dealbreaker but it is annoying when you’re trying to watch a TV show or listen to music while cooking. Depends on your habits and usage.

  • +1

bought for $220 last year from HN (could have got it for $200 as there was a $20 cashback 2 days later 🙁). Heats well, but there are a few gripes. wifi interference within 1 meter of microwave, not an issue really since mine sits in pantry in one corner of the house, the touch buttons are hard to find in the dark, and the model with a rotating dial is more convenient but at the same time is less durable than the touch controls.

  • +1

Our panasonic microwave affects our wifi. I dont think its uncommon for it to happen.

  • +6

For anyone who wants to turn off all sound (including key presses and jingles), press ‘Keep Warm’ and ‘Clear’ for five seconds.

    • Shame I can only upvote this once!!

  • -1

Everyone saying it's bad with BT etc. Um.. Just pointing out maybe its bad for your HEALTH to be shielded so poorly!

    • Not unless you had a bt controlled pace maker….

    • Following the same logic any Bluetooth device is bad for you, as they are not shielded at all.

    • Yeah that's uhh… not how it works.

      • +1

How does it work then? If you're looking into the microwave wouldn't one with more shielding be better??

I understand if you're in the lounge room it won't matter..

        • Microwaves vibrate water and old molecules. This vibration is like friction which translates to heat and it's why food becomes warm.

          It's really quite magical.

A microwave could boil you to death if you could weaponise it by focusing the beam. The waves that do escape this microwave model are probably so low in power that you couldn't feel it with your hand, just like you can't feel your wifi router or BT headphones electromagnetic radiation.

  • I picked up the silver one from JB for $219 four weeks ago.

  • None of the product listings are available anymore as far as I can tell.

  • Yup removed from listing already it seems

  • Are these sold out now?

  • Never had an issue with mine affecting WiFi or BT fwiw.

  • This listing was ended by the seller because the item is no longer available

  • +2

I have the same model and apparently 2.4GHz wifi disruption is common with many inverter microwaves

Protip: ended up wrapping some of my old placemats in alfoil and leaning them against the corners of the microwave that face my router (which is about 3m away)

Ugly and annoying? Yes. But it worked - my wifi works without interruption now when I'm using the microwave.

  • +4

In light if all the above comments………. What's ozbargains second favourite microwave? Haha

  • any other good microwaves…I missed on this…

  • 25 litre model at jb for 179 if anyone is interested. The 42 was too big for my cabinets. I price matched at bing Lee as there was no stock in Sydney.

  • I bought one of these last year and was surprised they do not have a timer function.
Weight inverter defrost function is very good for frozen bread rolls.

  • +2

  • The 42Lt with the rotary knob controller is the goat microwave. None better.

    • Does the rotary controller have the bluetooth issues? Last time I checked it was $257 on the gg commercial. Hesitant to buy now with those issues.

      • I don't think it's a Bluetooth rotary controller, no.

  • our MW of this type has developed a high pitch whine for about 10 to 15 seconds when your press start and then it goes away? anyone else?

  • My parcel seems to be stuck with Fastway, no update since 7/9. Support is useless as always.

    • Mines stuck with hunter express too, but being in Melbourne, everything’s stuck anyway…

      • Ditto, wouldn't bother chasing it up for at least a week longer
