  • FYI, if getting 2 or more camera's it seems better to use the single unit pricing on the Reolink website with this coupon code… the 2 pack of cameras on the site ends up costing more when combined with this code for some reason…

    • You're right. You can order twice :)

Have installed a few of these at family and own house, good bang for buck, i have paid them with synology nas as you get 2x free licenses for cameras with most of them. All have been wifi jobs and been nice and stable no issues.

    • How have you found Synology recording and access to the cameras? does it still record full resolution and does it offer any additional processing such as people detection or anything else worth noting?

      • also if it does people detection is it only during day or day and night with infra red?

        • +2

Im using 3 of these with my Xpenology and you can set resolution to full 2k and can record 24/7 or events only. It has motion detection but no people detection. You can either choose the camera's algorithm or the surveillance station algorithm. I'm using the synology algorithm as I have SD card installed in the camera that uses the camera detection.

          • @johnyBgood: How many (free) cameras can you have with xpenology? If you have 3, then that's better than the 2 synology give. Do you mind me asking which dsm version you are using?

            • @gomango: 2 by default, but you can install an unlocked copy of surveillance station package from xpenology.com and use unlimited cameras. AFAIK you can't buy a valid license from synology and use in xpenology as it's tied up to the mac address of the NAS. I'm using DSM 6.2-23739.

              • @johnyBgood: Thanks very much for the info! Do you need a fairly powerful cpu to run multiple cameras?

                • @gomango: Mine runs on Xeon processor, I have lowered the bit rate a little bit as it slows down my network but still records @ 2K 24/7 for 2 cameras and 1 camera at night time only.

                  • @johnyBgood: Hi jominix, I couldn't find the surveillance station package you mentioned. Could you please help me find it or send a link to it? Thanks so much!

Just a head up all Reolink have released their new camera I've been waiting for that does people and vehicle detection:
    https://reolink.com/product/rlc-810a/#overview

Might grab a few of these cheap camera's for now and then wait for a deal/bundle on the 810a in the future.

    • "wait for a deal/bundle on the 810a in the future"
      Likewise!

    • Just make sure they work at night in infra red mode. I was most annoyed that when I most want them to be acting as a security system, and giving me alerts in the middle of the night to wake me up it can't do that, so I get alerts for cats and possums, moving tree's when it's windy, so I have to turn the alerts off at night,.

      • OP are you able to confirm if the new 810a units will also be able to notify about people and cars during the night as well?

  • OP do you have a deal on Argus 2 without the solar?

  • Do these have inbuilt batteries or do you have to wire them up

No these units require power then use wifi to connect to… so you can essentially place them anywhere that has a PowerPoint and in range of your wifi network..

  • Does it work as is or must you buy other stuff with it?

    • It works as is, just insert an SD card to record videos, or save in FTP/NAS server for 24/7 recording.

      • I have a router…no nas server

  • Work with blueiris?

    • It supports RTSP so it should work fine with blueiris. Although Reolink say their cams only work with a reolink NVR it's only the 4K cameras (with no RTSP) that don't seem to work with BI. The new 4K cameras (810a) seem to support RTSP so they should support BI too.

  • What’s the usual price?

    • USD 62.99

  • What type of power connection is it?

  • Funny coincidence, been looking at WiFi cameras recently, these came close to the top of my list for value. What's putting me off at the moment is the various feedback on these about when they lose power you have to physically plug an Ethernet cable back in to set them up for your WiFi. If this is still the case when you have a camera up high it could be a major inconvenience.

    • Never experienced this myself, I have unplugged the camera a couple of times and never needed to plug it to the Ethernet cable.

      • Thanks for the feedback!

      • They use POE for power?

        • This is a wifi camera, need to be plugged to power outlet.

          • -2

@johnyBgood: Of course it needs power. It doesn’t run on air.

            • -1

@MuddyClear: Just answered your question mate, they are not POE or POAir. The camera needs to be plugged directly to an outlet.
