I am still not sure how this will work…is this kind of RC motor ? Which can be controlled from switch πŸ€”

    • +3

      Yes

    • -1

Yeah the trailer didn't explain it very well huh? It's a real remote car you control through augmented reality

      • Interesting to see ! Lots of unanswered like how multiplayer work? Compatibility with Lite? Can we just buy second kart alone if I have bought the set already for multiplayer ? Lots of question !! πŸ€”

    • +1

This thing won't even survive three minutes when my dog is around.

  • Do you need more than one set for multiplayer? πŸ€·πŸ»β€β™‚οΈ

    • +2

Yes, one kart and one switch for one player

      • also looks like you need 2x switches too

        • Yes

      • It doesn't have CPU bots?

        • "The physical kart responds to boosts in-game and in the real world, stops when hit with an item and can be affected in different ways depending on the race. Players place gates to create a custom course layout in their home, where the only limit is their imagination. Race against Koopalings in Grand Prix, unlock a variety of course customizations and costumes for Mario or Luigi, and play with up to four players in local multiplayer mode."

          • @MBix: Man that sounds cool. I thought I was too old for this shit.

            • @AustriaBargain: I can’t wait to see my cat run across the screen and send my Kart flying!

              • @MBix: I wonder if someone will modify the cars or gut them to work on bigger RC cars that kids race around empty parking lots.

    • Yeah think so

    • Presumably? I think that's the intention behind having the Mario and Luigi set.

    • A bigger question is probably whether or not you need two switches for multiplayer.

      • +2

You do. Each person needs their own switch and their own copy of the game.

        • +5

          That's a bit yuck.

  • Also will it work with Lite ?

    • Presumably. But that's just a guess. Advert showed someone using the switch in handheld mode. Would be surprised if somehow the Lite couldn't use it.

    • +1

      Yes. Handhold only of courses

    • +2

      Yep, from the MKLive site:
"Mario Kart Live: Home Circuit requires a Nintendo Switch or a Nintendo Switch Lite system. Browse the systems to find the right fit for you."

    • Would be cool to see it on the big screen though.

  • +2

bloody hell, ozbargainers are just posting every game announced from the nintendo direct

    • +7

Eh Amazon is offering pretty good discounts, and I bet a lot of them will sell out

    • +1

ozbargainers also post every new game on gamepass and majority of people dont seem to care

  • Unavailable

  • +1

    so quick sold out

  • +1

    Gone 10 words

  • Don't see the appeal of this if each person needs their own switch. We love playing Mariokart as a family of four. We're not buying 3 more switches.

    • +1

I agree. But I just bought one for myself because I see it as a cool piece of tech. Every now and again I'll do something like this. I know it won't be the highest utility purchase ever, but it's a cool look piece of merch, and looks a good bit of fun, or something you'd pull out at a gathering to show people.

      • Yeah, I agree the tech is cool. And it's a positive step in augmented reality. I did think about getting it for my son. But then my daughter would want one and that means buying a new switch unfortunately.

        • +1

I'm sure there'll be plenty more cool things in the future that will convince them you're an amazing mum/dad :)

  • +3

If 2020 wasn't already bad enough Nintendo comes stomping through to release a Mario Kart game that doesn't even let you drift-boost.

As if it wasn't already casual enough with the artificial difficulty catch-up and steering assist.

    • Can't tell if this is sarcastic or not? I think it looks like a dream come true for some kids. Best use of AR I have seen in gaming.

      • +5

100% Hyperbole. I think this is awesome and I'd have killed for one as a kid.

        • +2

Same. I now have a kid and ordered as fast as I could click.

          • @cc23: I can confirm I've never grown up. Want this regardless of kids.

        • +1

I dunno. Now that you say that, I want a jump button!

    • It might be possible to simulate a drift boost via increase the kart speed for a short while? I'm not sure if they actually implemented such thing though.

  • Can you create a track and then race virtual characters on it in multiplayer?

    • you will need at least two switchs(or lite), and two sets of these kart to do multiplayer.
if you have one of each, you can race virtual characters for sure.

      • I see. Bit of a shame. Would have been fun in lockdown to have 1 kit and run an online multiplayer so you could have friends race virtually around your own house.

        • The idea is neat but how would they see around your house? Unless they could control a Kart unit remotely. Now that would be freaky fun!

  • You can only play as Mario or Luigi?

They should of released a kart where you can dock amiibos and use AR to show the avatar on screen.

  • I feel like these are going to be scalped like hell come Christmas time. What a genius time to release something that uses your home in a new way.

  • Back in stock at $133.85

    • +3

      Luigi is still $112!

      • i managed to snag one for $112

        • Damn I was checking often and they were out of stock. Not sure how I missed.
Managed to get one for $133.85. Hopefully they come down again before release

  • +2

    Got Luigi set.

    AAANDDD it's gone again!!

    • I got Mario's set about ten minutes ago if anyone is still after one. My 6yo is gonna be shocked, I told him a definitive no. Xmas is going to go down well but he may dislike me for a few days.

      • My kids are not old enough to play these. Otherwise I would definitely buy couple of them.

        • I'm tossing up whether to buy a second set for one of the older kids but I think it'll not hold their interest, I think a few of the little guys friends will end up with these for Xmas as well so he'll have people to play with.

  • +1

Got Mario $133. If it doesn't come back to $112 under the pre -order price guarantee I'll be canceling.

    • same here!

      • Same for luigi - now in stock.

    • i think because that price was from a reseller jb hi fi, the lowest price for amazon themselves is 133$

      • Who was the $112 from?

      • So the Amazon price of $112 was matching someone else?

        • My bet is that the price $112 was before GST, perhaps Amazon made mistake?

          • @Jay Nomad: Does that mean they've made a second mistake and the price will soon drop to $123? πŸ˜‰

( $112.47 + GST = $123.72; Allowing for currency fluctuation brings it to $123.85. So the extra $10 is a typo?)

            • @robinCTS: Not sure, Amazon put up price to $149 just now so I am unsure where they got those pricing from…

    • Highly unlikely to go back to 112 from now on.

    • Me too!

  • Luigi in stock at $133. Now I can stop refreshing the page and hope the pre-order price guarantee kicks in later.

No way I'm paying more than $120 for one. Frankly even that is a bit high. Will probably cancel in October.

10% off JB gift cards come around on boxing day = $126.55 worst case scenario. So $133 is definitely too high - Amazon are dreaming.

    • So $133 is definitely too high - Amazon are dreaming

Looks at EB Games Prices of $149.95

      • +1

Yup. Albeit there are gift cards for EB at 9% off through some memberships if I recall, as well as carrot points, making it (best case) similar to JB's. Not that either of them are directly discounting from RRP.

But never pay RRP, even when not on sale! :)

    • +1

Kids might be a bit disappointed come Christmas Day that you didn't buy so that you can save $6.45 :P

  • +3

Can't wait to see Bathurst remade with VB cans as barriers.

  • They're both $149 now

    • +1

And now that it's matching JB Hi-Fi's price, I'd say that the $149 price is here to stay for a while.

    • πŸ€” This is weird: the Mario Set is $149.00 whilst the Luigi Set is $149.95?!

  • Doesn't come with the game cart. Download only.

    • Yeah I read that though it's not that bad as you can apartment download the app for free so if you want to sell the kit it is fully transferable to the next owner unlike normal digital purchases.
