  • Would this work well as an external ssd for a game console?

    • I use the T5 in my PS4. Super fast :D This isn't the fingerprint locked T7, so you should be fine

      • I used T5 with my ps4 as well and then wd external hard drive, didn't notice much of difference in performance.

      • If you don't setup the lock on T7 with the lock, it's a ordinary T7. (Surprise!)

Yes, it will improve your PS4 and Xbox one load times, it made RDR2 far more playable for me in those in those I only got 30mins sessions. however it’s USB 3.2 so they don’t get the full speed benefit but is way faster than using a hdd drive. The new consoles are compatible with USB 3.2 but they will be able to use M2 drives which are much faster.
So basically any sata ssd in a USB 3.0 2.5inch case will work well with a game console.
This will work well with current and better with next gen.
Next gen uses ever faster drives but the prices will probably be higher especially for series x which will be proprietary.

  • Good…but c’mon amazon you can better !

Missed the $99 deal. Now $99 is my new trigger.Amazon, c,mon!

      99 is new norm!! ;)

    • Never mind that was the more expensive model. Now that’s the bar I’ll compare against.

  • what are the best use cases for this? Is it mainly console games?

For mass storage, I prefer a HDD because it's much cheaper per GB. I don't care about speed because speed will be bottlenecked by the device you are copying to/from and for me, that's almost exclusively HDDs for large files.

    • For me, running VMs.

My Mac also won’t be a bottleneck for the device so it’s good for any general storage, although I also have a T5 which is fast enough for just dumping files.

      Edit: Portability is nice too
