I believe this is the cheapest I've seen it .. ever? Or at least in a long while, everyone knows this is a staple knife. It is "IKONIC"

  • If this was a car would you say it's a Audi, Porsche or Lambo? I'm not up to speed how good this brand it. Certainly looks nice.

    According to CCC it's the lowest price it's been so looks like a great deal!!

        It's a Porsche. It's a pretty good deal for those who missed the many Shun knife and knife block deals during the eBay 30% off code a few months back. That was basically two weeks of the best knife deals you'll ever see so I'm not sure why anyone would need a knife of this standard now because you should all already have them 😁

          I ended up grabbing it in the end because looks like a great knife and while it's not a Shun, I think I will still be happy with it.

    • Wusthof knives are good, but as with most German knives will require more frequent sharpening than high(er) end Japanese knives. Sharpening will be easier, though … swings and roundabouts. Before you get this make sure the size is OK for you, and you are a "rock chopper" since the knife has a very pronounced belly.

          A couple of whetstones are the best sharpener for any kind of blade, but it requires a bit of time to learn to freehand sharpen properly.

          an easier option is one of the "ruixin" Edgepro Apex knockoffs you can order from china (eg: https://www.aliexpress.com/item/4001244397714.html). Just make sure you get some decent stones with it as the chinese ones often aren't great.

          I wouldn't bother eith any of the "pull through" slot type sharpeners, most if not all of them are kinda rubbish.

        But will also be more durable than the Jap knives, takes more of a beating. Have heard Shuns cracking/breaking after dropping etc. I also own a Shun premier but so far so good. Large chefs knives I use wusthof and then go jap for utility and pairing etc.

        • Depends what you mean by durable. softer steel means it will dent or bend rather than crack, but it also means it will lose its edge quicker and will need more frequent resharpening. Each time you sharpen you remove material and reduce the life of the blade. If you treat a harder steel well it won't chip, and will keep its edge longer, require less frequent sharpening and therefore have a longer life. So it depends on how you use your knife, how often you drop it, whether you plan to use it to chop through bones or pumpkins, or if you have a separate beater knife for those sort of jobs etc.. also bolsters are a pain in the butt if you sharpen with a whetstone.

        • when your steel is very hard, yes it tends to be more brittle. But it means you use it differently.

          Definitely would not hack bones with your japanese knives, you can be more "careless" with these german knives.

        • I think Shun has a great warranty if those unfortunate events happen, never tried to claim myself but heard from a friend it is pretty effortless.

  • Been looking for a thicker knife for some tougher challenges and picked one up, thanks OP! Also a huge fan of the colour as it stands out from the typical designs.

  • Have always liked the look of the Ikon series, nice knives…just don't need any more

  • black with the 9” blade would have been nice,

    set vs individual knife, depends what people already have and if they are happy to collect one by one, though experience has been sets are cheaper when % discounts are large.

    I honestly find 9" blades too big to use. they are also very hard to store (Unless you have a knife block)

  • I put money into a Nirey KE3000 Electric Knife Sharpener, any knife can be good one.

    Just a reminder that Wusthof no longer offers free lifetime sharpening service in Australia. You now have to pay $10 per knife plus two way postage!

    • What happens to those who bought thr knife on the promise of life time free sharpening?

      • If you get in touch with their customer service they will probably honour it. Some people have been successful through their Facebook page.

    • With knives this soft i wouldnt offer free lifetime sharpening either.

  • Is the steel same as X50CRMOV15? Not mentioned on the knife.

    • Probably.. don't they all use the same steel under Wusthof consumer models etc?
