Cheapest height adjustable desk I can find - next cheapest is Ikea for $249 but it's out of stock everywhere in Melbourne.

It's manual / winding legs but you can make it automatic by using an electric drill to spin the windy handle thing (joking here - don't do it…but if you do, let me know how it goes).

Thanks for the downvote! It made my day! :)

I was looking for the original price but couldn't find it - also call BS on the RRP.

      • +3

dont take it personally, only downvoted as someone purchased after your post went up, dont think they will realise the rrp is bs

@ywpn: as you've changed the rrp i'll revoke the downvote.. happydays lol

  • ordered from mydeal before and it went smoothly

    • My only experience with MyDeal was their Nakamichi speakers (https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/552074) which ended up being a pricing error.

Looking forward to getting a refund on this desk, too.

  • If you want to do anything other than leave it at standing height all the time then spend an extra $100 or so and get an electric one.

I'm in the hunt for a sit/stand desk and gaming chair, but the Ikea table looks so much nicer and better built…i'd pay the extra +shipping over this.
Does anyone one own this and could give any input on the quality?

    • Not related to this desk, but to the Ikea one you saw.
I went to Ikea in March (early on in Covid times), and I saw the manual wind desk and the motorised versions.
The manual wind works, but did seem a potential weak point.
I ended up spending the extra to get the motorised version - no issues with it so far.

    • Ikea stand tables are dangerously wobbly when on standing height, plus their cardboard honeycomb table tops… Ugh

Ikea tables look good… Thats about it

      • im 6 ft and no issues with my ikea table when im standing, its quite rigid

Hey Winston100s, I am in the same boat as you and have been doing quite a bit of research on this stuff before I am going to pull the trigger. There is a Google Sheets spreadsheet I found in an older thread that I have been updating regularly.

Feel free to check it out and filter the sheet for your preferred desktop size, weight limit etc. (If you find something that isn't on there, feel free to add it).

Hope this helps you or others looking for a desk much like myself and others.

      • Wow, quite a bit of work you've done there.
I'm leaning towards the Ikea table 80x160cm $269. If not happy with the top you can replace it or give it a wrap, i'm thinking of covering it with carbon fibre vinyl to give it that gaming look.
There is no cross beam so you can tuck in your legs under the table without worrying that you will be hitting your knees.
The legs are tubular and look so much nicer compared to the square ones which catch your attention so much, there is no way to not notice how ugly they are.
The winding handle for the mechanism is at the front so if you want to have your desk in a right corner of a small room you don't need to worry about losing 15cm of space as you would with a desk that hace the handle on the side.
The only thing that kills the Ikea table deal for me is the shipping price, unless you go and pick it up yourself, but still a good deal.
One more thing I forgot to mention and is really important when chosing a desk is the top finish. Some of the desks have a sharp edge and get uncomfortable after 15 minutes of resting your arms on top if it, especially if you're wearing a t-shirt. Make sure you get a desk with a smooth top finish, makes a huge difference.

    • I cant give info on the quality of this unit but I thought I'd chime in with this as an alternative. (Click and collect $299)

      https://www.officeworks.com.au/shop/officeworks/p/matrix-man…

It's well built.. easy to assemble and is a decent size.. My partner says it excellent even if it's manual. I built it and can attest to the quality.

My friend has purchased the unit offered here and it's yet to arrive (via another website) and intends to replace the top with the Acacia hardwood from Officeworks as a project.

      • No cross-beam support which is way better for your knees, but probably lowers the weight capacity a bit.

Nothing worse than accidentally kicking a crossbeam and trying not to fall off your chair.

  • Anyone bought stuff from mydeal before? RRP $1,029.00, that looks dodgy or amiss.

    • The rrp is BS

got this delivered and assembled today, it's almost 30kg and packed extremely well with plastic and foam bits wrapping all the pieces. Table top feels very solid/heavy.

Got mine yesterday. Quality is decent, but it was a bit of a pain assembling it
