Buyer beware - Just look at previous deals/posts…

    • +5

Oh wow that's insane. The rep should be talking about cleaning the mess up before trying to get more biz - rep will get banned for posting negatively voted deals.

    • +1

To get some perspective, just do the maths - look at the number of votes in 35 previous Circles Deals:

      Negs 71 (not great)
Upvotes 1370 (over 19 times the number of negs)

Yes, some have experienced problems - returning to neg other Deals…
(As shown by members who repeatedly negged Deals.)
And comments that don't support their views, are downvoted!

Most relate to billing continuing. Treat it as a post paid service (there is a credit check) - notify Circles you are leaving instead of just porting out.

Some suggestions of how to avoid billing issues with Circles

I've only had good experiences. Am back with Circles now.

An upside, SIM is delivered very quick (recently ordered Sunday night, delivered Monday night in Brisbane). That's unlike one with popular SIM Deals which can take over a week to arrive & those arrive pre-activated!

      • 3rd time sign up. Picked a good number ending 688 and only paid $1. Enjoy nearly 2 months, nearly 200GB data.

Postpaid account number starts with LW. Port out (to an Optus provider for a smooth process from former exp) before 25th OCT. Ported out to Catch Connect within 4 hrs last time. Also because Optus/associates acknowledge this LW issue.

I do not see any problems with this plan based on two port-out exp before.

          Good idea!

Once had a great number 04(my name) that I used in business, until Telstra transferred it to another customer.
They claimed I must have authorised the transfer, as there was "no evidence that I didn't authorise it", & TIO agreed😢
          Bloody Telcos!

      They sure don't!

  • +6

Don’t sign up, not only are there issues porting but I also read about a case where someone’s phone number was activated on another persons SIM card.

    • +3

That may have been me. This was right at the start when they had that 4 month free trial promo. They sent me a sim card with someone else's number on it. I knew it was an older, pre-existing number because the new numbers from Circles.life at the time had a 0435 prefix. Plus, upon activation I received an SMS from Circles.life addressed to someone else. Since I was only ordering a new number, it wasn't a big deal for me, but it was quite the security and privacy breach for that person.

To be fair, I haven't had any problems since then. Billing, termination and porting out to another telco have all been smooth and hassle free.

      • -1

I apologise about that. I am hoping that you will still consider us in the future. - KM

    • -1

Hi WoodYouLikeSomeCash! It seems like it was an uncommon instance. We do our best to make sure porting is as smooth as possible. In cases like this, we strongly suggest to report it directly to us we can work on it. Your feedback is also much appreciated.

You guys should work on your reputation first and then spam places with offers. At the moment no offer is good enough to get people to sign up.

    • -1

We'll take note of this and this will be taken as feedback. - KM

  • I currently have an active service with you guys, can I use the same email for another service?

    • Yes you can.

    • Hi there! OzBargan was right, thanks for jumping in!

      • The offer says New Customers Only, will I be considered a new customer since I already have another service on the same email address?

        • +1

Hi TomGum! A new order is considered a new customer although you have another service on the same email address.

          • @CirclesLifeAU: Thanks for clarifying that!
Will be a new service - on a new number.

            • @INFIDEL: So I could be potentially order 2 or 3 Sims with the same email?

  • +1

    No thanks.

  • Second question: if I activate the service on 1st of October, can the OP please explain what my first bill will look like?

    • Hi there! If it was activated 1st of October, you will receive your first bill on the 1st week of November.

      Your first bill will include:
-The first month (prorated from sim activation)
-Charge for the second month as an advance payment
-Plus any extra applicable charges for Add-ons or Pay-As-You-Go expenses.

      • +1

So there won't be any bills on first week on October? Also the November bill should be zero due to the 2x$38 credit?

        • @Rep, @CirclesLifeAU, @bluesidehero please answer this.
Potential Customer here. Or you don't want me?

  • +6

They kept threating me with legal action over $2.50 (all the way from November) then they kept spamming at night with emails (after i paid it last month)

How did we do, Charbel? They sent the same thing three times throughout the night.

ps you can find my review on their official Facebook page

Exposing your AWS S3 buckets and AZ like that doesn't look great. You should fix your html and point to your custom domain.

  • Can I use this in a b818?

    • Hi there! Of course as long as the device is not locked on a different network!

  • This is not free. There is still a $1 charge. 'SIM Card Registration fee'.
Not exactly the '$0' that is 'splashed' all over the promo.
Perhaps make it really totally free.

    • I did not find the word "free" in the OP.

      • You are 100% correct.
Just that the wording would lead one to assume its free, perhaps.
A more honest way would be to state, $1 for trying us out for 2 months words to that effect.
Something along those lines would be appreciated IMHO.
Hence did not vote + or -.

This is false advertising. $1 "sim registration fee", so they have your billing details and can scam you out of payments after you try to leave.

Garbage company, unethical straight up false advertising. It's either free or it's not, don't lie.

    • Hi there! The billing details would be for the monthly payment since we are a postpaid service. - KM

  • +4

"we’ve shared this with our team so that we can continuously improve on our experience."
Every month that they tried to bill me for a free offer (the 4 month one) I gave feedback to the online csr who wrote those same rehearsed words. They are about as sincere as my bootlaces.

If you want a month of free data and can dodge the hooks they throw out then go for it. Just cover ya ass and be ready.

  • What constitutes a new customer?

    • One who did not sign up yesterday in a $1 Deal like the 2 of us?😉
      Would be handy to know.
My budgie wants to do some tweeting.

    • Hi jackofspade ! A new order is considered a new customer even if you have another service with the same email address.

      • if you were on circles last year, can you port in again as a new customer for this deal?

    same experience here.

They tried to bill me for a free offer (the 4 month one) and even get "Australian Recoveries & Mercantile Agents" chase me up on their so called "outstanding balance"!

    • -2

Hi hd2002. Sorry to hear about your experience! We will ensure this does not happen again.

  • Is the SIM card active once ordered or manually activated when received?
If manually activated, how long do we have to activate it?
    Thanks.

    • +1

Activate within 30 days of sign up to enjoy the offer.

      • Thank you! I see that posted, but for some reason missed it yesterday🤦🏼‍♂️

    • +1

Hi there! TomGum is right, thanks for jumping in!

    • Hi aussiematthew. You will need to activate the sim card manually once you receive it. It is to ensure you are not being billed while waiting for the sim to arrive.

  • Is it really worth all the hassle

    • Hi there! It is! So please sign-up using the link above!

      • +2

Surely Gomo wasn't asking the sales rep but other OzBargainers

  • +1

I have been using their service since Nov last year. I live close to melb CBD, so, network was not really an issue. Also, pricing of 18$ pm for 20gb data seems reasonable.

Just want to point out the fact that, when you would want to port-out, whichever date it is, they will charge you for the whole month. So, if they recieve the port out request @11:59 PM 31st Aug and they action the port out at 3:00AM 1st Sep, you are paying for the whole month of September!

It is not a lot of money, its a policy that's not really consumer friendly.

    • +2

Important that people realise this is a post paid plan, not prepaid!

Very different to a normal prepaid plans promoted on Ozbargain, so people do get caught by the different conditions.

Look up helpful suggestions in past Deals about how Circles works before signing up.
      I've never had a problem.

It's a month to month plan (starting on 1st of month until end of month), so if your account is active in the month (even for a second), you pay for the month.

If leaving this plan - notify them well before the end of the month - whether porting or just leaving! It's the safest way to avoid problems!

Unfortunately, some think porting out just before the next payment period will stop future bills as it does with prepaid services… but it might not if not completed in time!!
Most complaints seem to relate to billing continuing after porting out.

If activating before the start of the month, you pay for that proportion of the full month's bill at the full rate ($38/mth in this Deal)!!

First bill is for 2 months!
(So I activated on last day of month. That way, bill for first month should be just over $1, plus the bill for following month.)

There is a credit check, like other post paid plans. And Circles does pursue those with outstanding bills!!

      • +1

& also a post paid service that doesn't charge you on a pro-rata basis like most post paid service are

        • Yeah, be careful of the last free month and must find a way out by the end of it. That's why I did not join for 1 month free plan with them. I think minimum 2 months free plan like this deal is OK to go. Also due to the fact that they bill you 2 months in the 1st bill.

      • So I activated on last day of month

I didn't quite get this. I think this applies when they were giving only one month for $1. However, since this current deal is for two months or rather "two billing cycles", could you confirm if this is the best way to deal with it?

        1. Activate on 01-Oct-2020. You get the full month of Oct, with 100GB (am I right?)
        2. Come 01-Nov-2020, you get your first bill for Oct (which will be $38 - $38 = $0), and you get charged in advance for the month of Nov (which will also be $38 - $38 = $0). So far no cost.
        3. Around 20-Nov-2020, inform Circles that I want to discontinue my service (how to, email?). Service gets disconnected without any charges.

Did I miss any point? Also, is the first month 100GB or only 20GB (as the rest is bonus and is not "pro-rated" as they say)?

        Thanks in advance.

        • +1

With Circles - it's a best to check their FAQ that covers this…

Billing system assumes we want to stay with this post paid service, so only becomes complex when we try to use it as a SIM hopping prepaid type service!

Leaving the service is where most complaining experienced problems & costs!! So best to get it right!

          Good questions Grasshopper😌
Made me think about the billing!
Anyone like to offer other ideas…

          Almost right…

First bill is for 2 months. Sent in first 10 days of month.

(So in $1 1 month offer, I activated on last day of month, so first bill would be 1 day pro rata in Month 1 & $1 in Month 2. Yet to receive bill. Will give notice to terminate at least a week before end of this month.)

So with a 2 month offer - best to start on day 1 of month. As you suggest.

Not sure about bill that arrives in second month, for month 3…
I would send notice (to terminate at end of month 2) - right at start of month 2, to avoid that bill!!

See link in previous Deal for how to leave Circles

Both months are 100GB if start on day 1. Otherwise the 20GB is pro rata & extra 80GB is for whole month. (My 1 day last month had just over 80GB!)

Am waiting for my first bill, before considering another Circles SIM!

          • @INFIDEL: Thanks. Sending notice to terminate right at he start of month 2 ! Why? Are they that bad, or do they take that much time to actually terminate? What is the timeline from notifying, to actually getting terminated? What if it happens in 10 days, so I forgot like ~20 days of service, but as you'd say it's far far better than getting charged a whole $38 for the following month if they dont terminate in time.

Looks like no way to get the complete 2 months deal out from them. Its 1 whole month + few days (consider yourself lucky).

            • +1

              @djoz: Seems the safest way.
The service is active until end of month you leave.
(Put in bold because this is often misunderstood - it's a month to month plan. Very unlike prepaid.)

Why give notice to terminate service so early?… There's a good reason - so you won't be sent a bill for month 3!

In month 2, around day 10, you will receive a bill for month 3 @$38!

Notifying them say on day 1 of Month 2 to terminate at end of Month 2, should stop bill for Month 3.

(Last time, I gave Circles a few weeks notice to terminate at end of month. Received a confirmation email & service was active until 11pm Sydney time on last day of month.)

That way you get 2 months service for $1, without a further bill.

              • @INFIDEL: I doubt if this even qualifies as a fair Trade Practice.

In month 2, around day 10, you will receive a bill for month 3 @$38!

                Sorry, but again confused.
                For the case I mentioned, in Nov'2020, I would get bill for Oct'2020 ($0) + Nov'2020 ($0) (advance).
The bill for $38 for "next" would only be by 10-Dec-2020 (so in the month of Dec'2020, not in Nov'2020).

                Am I right?

Also, on the bold line, do you mean to say I will be able to use my SIM till 30-Nov-2020 even if 'billing-terminated' in the middle of Nov'2020?

                • @djoz: As a month to month plan, you are billed up front for the following month.

Many subscription services operate in this way.

It's all explained in the FAQ, so not an issue. Best to read what you are signing up to. Hasn't been a problem for me.

There is a big difference between notifying to terminate (at end of month) & terminating a service.
So service will be active until end of month, unless you port out earlier.

                  in Nov'2020, I would get bill for Oct'2020 ($0) + Nov'2020 ($0) (advance).

No, if activating at start of October, that October & November bill arrives around 10 October, plus the $1 SIM charge.
As I wrote First bill is for 2 months. Sent in first 10 days of month. see the FAQ!

The bill for $38 for "next" would only be by 10-Dec-2020 (so in the month of Dec'2020, not in Nov'2020).

No, that December bill arrives arrives around day 10 in Month 2 - November.

There's even a short video to explain this in Circles FAQ.

                  • @INFIDEL: Based on the rep, if I activate 1st of October then the first bill comes on 10th November. This is contradicting based on what you're saying.

                    • @TomGum: Missed the comment by the Rep about first bill. So above advice about bill dates may be 1 month out!

                      Worryingly Rep wrote:
If it was activated 1st of October, you will receive your first bill on the 1st week of November.
                      Your first bill will include:
-The first month (prorated from sim activation)

                      Very confusing!
So, Activating on day 1 of month is still pro rata of month, not a full first month!!!
As discussed elsewhere, Pro rata billing is at full price!! which could add almost $38 to your first bill!!

I activated at end of month to avoid billing issues, so billing was following month as Rep wrote. Activating at start of month will be different.

If I take up this offer, I would consider paying about $1 more to activate the day before the start of the month!!

Hopefully Rep can clear this up!

                      Best to ask the Rep!

Am just a customer - read the FAQ.
(I try my best - but I can be wrong, so check for yourself!)

                      eg
                      What-will-my-first-Circles-Life-bill-look-like

                      How-do-I-read-my-bill

When and where I will get my bill?

                  • @INFIDEL: Damn. Thanks a million. Got you now.

                    1. Activate 01-Oct-2020
                    2. First bill arrives on 10-Oct-2020 with billing for (Oct'2020 + Nov'2020 + $1 SIM Charge). Total Bill = $1.
                    3. On 01-Nov-2020, Notify to 'terminate at end of the month'.
                    4. Receive a confirmation in 9 days, and thereby no bill on 10-Nov-2020 for Dec'2020 (I can't believe I'm even writing this!)
                    5. Service works until ~11:00PM AEDT 30-Nov-2020

So basically, a Postpaid service charging you in advance for each month, that too by 10th of previous month. I'm convinced this is Unfair Trade Practice. How are they even surviving? Yes, as you say this is a Subscription Service, not a Postpaid Service.

What if they don't confirm about my termination request prior to 10-Nov-2020 and I get the $38 bill?

                    • @djoz: Oh I'm out of my depth understanding their billing.

When Rep says activating on Day 1 of month is not a full month of service. So we'll charge you a prorated (full price) in your first bill - I'm out.

It's a billing system designed for those who want to stay with this service - paying full price after this discount at start.

What if they don't confirm about my termination request prior to 10-Nov-2020 and I get the $38 bill?
Posted FAQ link above - billed around day 10 of month to pay within 10 days.
Send them a reminder you're leaving.
Remove CC - so you aren't incorrectly billed by around day 20 of last month.

                    • @djoz: If they bill you on 10th October, they will bill you again on 10th November. In that case you want to make sure you fully cancel your service by 9th November at the latest.

Maybe best to activate on 11th October just so you get your first bill in November.

        • I activated it on 2 Sep and got 99.3GB, missed out 0.7GB, not too bad. It is as fast as it can be for this month.

Tried to use as much as possible of data allocation for my 1 day connected in August (just over 80GB). Only managed 5GB that day.

          • @Neoika: Maybe @Neoika can help. If you activated on 02-Sep-2020, do let us know if you get the first bill by 10-Sep-2020 or not until 10-Oct-2020.

Either way, with the two months free, we have to send out the termination request at the start of second month and then avoid any further charges.

            • @djoz: I am very sure to tell it'll be 10 Oct based on previous exp.

The T&Cs for this offer states

you will automatically receive a $38 discount on each of your Circles.Life bills for the first 2 months (including the month of activation) to a maximum total discount of $76. Your first bill will include 2 x $38 discount as your first bill includes your month of activation and the charge for your plan for the following month.

The bill waiver applies for the month of activation. Normally it doesn't.
So if you activate on 1st Oct then you should get 100GB for Oct and the first bill during the first 2 weeks of Nov for $0.

@INFIDEL: From their FAQs on 'How do I cancel my Circles.Life service?'

You can schedule termination up to 3 months in advance. For terminations scheduled in the following month, you will need to submit your request by 12:00 pm AEST/AEDT on the last day of the month.Otherwise, this request will be taken into account for the following month. All service cancellations will be effective at 11:00 pm AEST/AEDT on the last day of the month.

What I read is, if I want to terminate by 30-Nov-2020, I need to send a request by 31-Oct-2020 12:00PM AEDT. Also, as a side note, if we may schedule termination up to 3 months in advance, why not do it immediately a day after activation? :P

              • +2

@djoz: I have suggested elsewhere to send notice to terminate just after activation. (It can be undone later if wanted.)

That way we won't forget, don't get an extra bill, & will decreased stress using this service.

If porting, arrange it to be done before that termination date.

    • Hi there! Porting out would really take time and it will depend on the gaining provider so we suggest our customers that if they are porting out to do it a week before the month ends.

      • sure way to make people lose either way
why not just charge the last bill on a pro rata basis like other post paid service?

    • Hi sudiph! Thank you so much for the feedback. We strongly suggest that you port your number out at least 2 days before the month ends to avoid being charged another billing cycle. But I do get your point, each cent is valuable. We'll relay your feedback to our team so we can improve our services.

      • Saw this too late, but I was just pointing out what the rule is. I never had a problem, as I discussed with one of your rep before porting out and completed the portout request 4 days prior just to be safe.

  • Just passing through to say I'm an outlier in all the negative feedback: Have been with Circles since Dec 2019 and the service has been great besides being late with a bill payment due to app issues not letting me pay, didn't incur a late fee though.

Sister currently is having issues with her phone number with them: Her sim won't send/receive calls or text, but data working fine. Issue was escalated to Optus, but yet to see a resolution after ~3 days.

    • Hi there! Thank you so much for your support. Apologise for all the issues, can you please hop on our Live Chat service so we can check?

  • Tempted to give this a go for myself and the wife's plans. Does anyone know if they offer Wi-Fi calling and messaging like Optus do?:

    https://www.optus.com.au/content/dam/optus/documents/enterpr…

    • Hi YoungLions! Optus has rolled out VoLTE and Wifi calling but we still don't have any confirmation on when it will take effect since they have mentioned, that "VoLTE will be progressively rolled out to our MVNO." We appreciate you taking the time to let us know what you’re looking for.

  • A pre-paid service that thinks it's post-paid, has Optus written all over it. nah.

    • Hi gikku . We are a postpaid service, this means you receive a bill based on your usage and we automatically refresh your plan inclusions on the first day of your billing cycle. We do not offer prepaid service at the moment.

  • Tried a similar promo by the seller in the past had massive issues as I was using this for my iPad as a data sim, their app doesn't let you log in, as it requires SMS to your account number as MFA, Dealing with the support team on this matter was like pulling teeth. Tried multiple times to change billing card to an alternate card and eventually gave up and cancelled my plan (which took a number of days and a number of conversations). Would not recommend, buyer beware

    • Hi Browncodes. We are sad to hear that you didn’t have the best experience with us. We care about our customers above all else and have taken measures to ensure this will not happen again.

      • So to confirm the app, no longer requires SMS to the sim number for MFA? And there are now measures in place to support customers who are only using data and are not using calls&text?

  • Thanks, I just ordered one.

Thanks OP. Can see you're taking a lot of flak from apparent past user experiences. Appreciate the efforts. Have taken the plunge and ordered - hope I haven't shot myself in the foot.

Just remember this is a postpaid plan and you'll be fine. It is NOT a prepaid plan that OK to leave it expired, canceled by itself. One must be responsible for cancelation or ongoing cost. Record the LWxxxxx in your first invoice title as the account number if you plan to port it out later.

      • Thanks for the tip on the account number. Have been sim-hopping the last few years on prepaids (catch, kogan, etc.), so this will be my first postpaid.

  • Just got my bill for one of the previous offers. So it's not the 10th of every month. Looks like 7th instead. Anyone else activated their service this month and already got a bill today?

PS: Mine was activated on 31st Aug.

    • Is it $0? Any unexpected charges? What's with some peeps saying they're charging for international calls which were never made?
