    Getting hair and cash back

  • Where's the cheapest pack?

I'm constantly tugging if I wanna try this for my front hairline, just to maintain it but I am worried it'll do worse or just be a pain applying twice a day!

      • but $50 CB might not apply on it as they need on full price

        • They have a banner on their page so wouldn’t see why it wouldn’t work?

Medications for androgenic alopecia are more effective for loss at the crown than for temporal recession. Medications can regrow/thicken at the crown, whereas often the best result is pausing or retarding recession at the temples.

Single agent topical minoxidil (best in liquid than foam form for both application and cost effectiveness) is okay, but a lot more effective if combined with oral finasteride 1mg daily.

I've paused my alopecia and had a mild-moderate rethickening.

Regaine is periodically ~$70 for 60mL x4, and there are generic forms available for less.

Finasteride is best obtained (and cheapest) with an off-label prescription from a GP or dermatologist for the 5mg tablets which can then be cut and split over 5 days. The 1mg option is a lot more expensive. Side-effects are relatively uncommon (~1-2%) and temporary, but need to be understood before commencement.

      • You actually cut a tablet into 5 parts successfully?

        • Four parts, skip the fifth day

          • @muwu: How much does it cost you for 4 weeks?
My 1mg tablets cost around $30 for 28 tablets.

            • @bmerigan: Prescription is for 5mg x 30 in a box, with 5 repeats (6 boxes total).

A box is about $30 (some chemists try to sell more expensive types, ~$40-50, best to ring ahead and ask).

5mg x 30 tablets is a 150 day supply. That's roughly $6 per month, or 20-cents per day. One prescription will last ~2.5years

The 1mg tablets (often pushed by "hair loss treatment" clinics, along with a myriad of evidence-less therapies) will sell for >$1 per day (~$400/year), with much variation in price depending on who is marketing them.

              • @muwu: ok so 5mg is the same price as 1mg. Simple.

It's a bit strange that you think a 1mg treatment is evidence-less, but 1/4 of 5mg is right.

                • @bmerigan: Nop. Evidence is there for finasteride and monoxidil. Evidence is not there for anything else

                • @bmerigan: Nop. Re-read. 1mg formulations are at least x5-6 more expensive than 5mg

                  • @muwu: I thought about not replying, but… what you just wrote is wrong.

A 5mg tablet costs the same as a 1mg tablet BUT a 5mg tablet will last 4-5 times longer (because you cut it up).
The point you're getting to is that 5mg tablets represent 4-5 times better value, which is cool and good for people to know.

                  • @muwu: And what is 'nop'. Is that a modern internet abbreviation like YOLO?

    • You'll have to use it for a few months consistently to see any results. At first you will lose more hair on the area of application but after a few months it should grow back thicker. I'm pretty sure it explains it in the directions
