Synology DS1520+ 5-Bay NAS $1209 + Shipping @ Skycomp

120

The updated version of the DS1019+ is here, uses the same internals as the new DS920+ but has the extra drive bay. Sports the newer J4125 Celeron, and DDR4 RAM.

Additionally now has two eSATA ports on the back for expansion units taking this to a 15 bays capability where the DS1019+ could only get to 10.

Still somewhat expensive over the DS920+ however the extra drive bay and expansion may suit some people better. This price is at least $85 cheaper then the usual outlets where it is priced at $1295/$1299.

  • After watching the reviews of this it’s still a bit of a confusing product in terms of the features over the 1019+. Yes it has the slightly improved processor and more network interfaces but no 10Gbe and nothing else really of substance. I guess this is a reasonable saving for a just launched product but I’d still stick to the 1019+ if you can get it for mid $900’s after cashback etc.

    • New release tech so expensive. I bought 918+ for 600.

    • My 16TB hard drives Exos have nowhere to go now. Waiting for a ds918+ deal or a cheaper ds1019+ or ds1618+ deal.

      • Shucked from the recent Seagate deal or did you actually buy 16TB Exos?

Shucked my recent seagate deal ;) only 453 bucks hehe

          • @storageguy: So damn tempted but I have 15TB free in my array so better hold off… hard to exercise self control though.

            • @jace88: Yer its a good deal for hard drives. Just need a decent NAS deal so that I can shuck my HDDs now. Oh yer just curious what raid array are you running for these huge HDDS like 16tb. Is Raid 5 or SHR enough if I get a synology NAS unit. Too bad synology doesnt use zfs but I guess btrfs with mdma layer does the job too for catching errors or bit rot.

  • shipping cost is insane

    • It's local to me so I can pick up. That said those further afield need to factor in delivery.

  • That’s quite expensive considering I bought the ds1819+ for about $1400 earlier this year.

  • It was $1089 delivered on Amazon a few days ago

QNAP X53D models have same CPU but 2.5Gbe Lan, HDMI 2.0b output and pcie expansion slot for similar price.

If hardware is your thing then go QNAP is my advice.

    • exactly , QNAP hardware wise is often better than Synology

  • If you’re spending this much you may as well pay a bit more and get the 8-bay DS1819+

Another option ($1138) is to get a ds1618. 6 Bay.
