  • Thanks OP. Just got one.

Why only 32GB this time? Would that be enough for retropie?

    • +2

They have 2 listings, one for 64GB and one for 32GB. Whilst this is the lesser size this time (32GB) it is $6 cheaper than last time and also cheaper then the most recent 32GB deal.

    • It really depends on the number of roms you'd be putting on it. You would probably want 128gb+

I've got a pi4 2gb running the 200gb damaso image in a 3d printed retrocade setup and it works really well.

Did anyone try it as a Plex server? Interested to know the performance

    • If I'm not wrong it should be fine as long as you aren't transcoding content on it

    • +1

I'm currently using it as a Plex server as well as a few other things including web server etc. I found that it can transcode a single SD stream but is best used for direct play. In the direct play case, it can deliver at least 3 streams simultaneously. I haven't tried more.

Hi anyone using this for pi hole? Or should I sue synology nas docker image instead?

What are the most common use of this?

    • +2

Would you need this for pi hole, wouldn't a less powerful / cheaper one be better?

      • Pi Zero W is out of stock from retailers which don't rip you off.
Only Pi 4 has legit gigabit Ethernet.

        • Hey bud, core electronics should have Pi zero W in stock from tomorrow I believe!

        • +1

Throughput isn't a concern for PiHole, it's latency that's the problem. So I'd avoid the Zero W for PiHole but any Pi with Ethernet is fine.

        • -1

When I was using a Zero W for pi hole it would freeze up every couple of days. Changed over to a 3 B+ and it's been running several months now non-stop.

      • +2

I am running a Pi Hole on an Rpi 2. Running a little hot as the case has no heatsink or fans, but handles a full house and IoT devices with no stress.

        • +1

The price difference between a new Rpi 2 and Rpi 4 2GB RAM now is less than $2. For $2, you would rather get a better CPU, USB-3 and true gigabit Ethernet port.

Rpi Zero W is kinda worth considering once they are back in stock, but it doesn't have LAN (so you either need a microUSB to LAN converter) or run it through wireless LAN.

      • +2

I am using a zero with micro USB to LAN adapter and it’s solid. I chose the zero so I could power the device from the USB port on my router.

        • Got the same setup. 150+ days uptime today.

      • Yes my zero W works great.

    • +2

It would be overkill to use this for Pi-Hole… like others said, you can run Pi-Hole on a lesser spec'ed RPi.

    • Raspberry Pi Model B Rev 1 runs pi hole fine…

    • I'm running pihole on a raspberry pi 2 model b, no need for cooling on that one.

I've got docker running transmission/VPN, and will add in Plex server on my pi4.
