340

Hey guys, first time posting here!

Been looking for more disk space lately, and the floods made the 2tb drives go up in price quite a bit.

I saw this at JB-Hifi Eastgardens today, and thought it was a great deal~

$98 for a 2TB Drive plus you get a 4gb usb stick if thats of use to anyone.

(Btw it was marked $99 instore, but i searched the jb site and it says $98…)

PS: Oh there were 2 left at Eastgardens btw.

This exact drive has been sitting in Aldi (Maryborough, Qld) for the last few months. It's been marked down to $80 for about that long too.

    • Has it been posted?

    • I think, they are 1TB. They look exactly the same.

I bought one of these at JB and it was very bad quality. I had it for 3 hours and it crashed twice, I had to take the power cable out then back in again to fix it. The transfer speed is also terrible(approx 3 mb/s). Much better off buying a Seagate or WD.

I ended up taking it back and buying a WD, and its working fine.

The USB also only syncs off the external, which you have to have plugged in to transfer stuff across, so the USB is pretty useless.

    • I initially had some issues with the WD 2TB HDD I have when I got it. It was corrupting a lot of over 4gb .rar files I had when transferring from one drive to another.

Eventually found it was due to "Enable write caching" being setting of Windows being disabled.. Enabled it & it's all been great. I think the drive might of set this option as default maybe? Might of been the problem you had. Apparently having disabled write caching is meant to stop data errors when unplugging the HDD without using the "Safely remove hardware" option in the bottom right system tray.

      • I think I tried that, it wasn't just not copying files properly it was disconnecting and turning itself off. I think its the model, hence the massive price drop(were $199).

        • You wanna sell your unit to me at $77 then? My $77 unit seems to work working just fine but I am not using the DC adapter that comes with it right now… Maybe try another DC adapter if you have another one, maybe with higher output current.

    • 3MB/s? Lol.. somethings definitely wrong with your drive.

This is nice. you can always unscrew it and use it as an internal drive. Probably the cheapest way to get one right now

is this the same ones at umart? not sure if this one includes 4gb or not though

  • Is this deal still available and if it is, can I buy online?

  • +1

to whoever buys one, can you confirm if its a 7200rpm drive inside? Will definitely grab a couple if so, these samsung ecogreen drives are driving me goddamn insane with their pathetic speeds

  • yeah i'm in the market for a 2.5 inch drive, they are so expensive at the moment its cheaper to buy one in the premade portable unit style.

  • Decent deal if you're planning on taking the drive out of the enclosure and using it internally since its full speed.

Anyone know a decent price on a USB 3.0 2tb drive?

These were at $114.0 till recently but $124 is still a good price for a drive costing $169 at Dick Smith.

I have two of these and very pleased with the operation and that unlike Seagate the backup and enccryption software are free and included with the drive.

  • Saw a 1GB version at my local Aldi for $69 or $79 for those who are interested.

1GB? That's even smaller than the bonus flash disk that is included in this deal.

1TB. Posted late at night and slightly drunk.

  • called JB Hi-Fi Adelaide CBD who says no stock, although he sounded pretty clueless…

EDIT - confirmed they are waiting for stock to come in. this is a new deal apparently, not a clearance or anything like that.

  • Warrigal Rd JB has one at 77. Although the packaging seems a bit worn out, but unopened.

    • Thanks for the tip. I have went there and brought it at $77 :) No more left at Warrigal Rd, nothing at Chadstone branch either.

  • This is cheap,. and to hdmp4 who scored one at $77 this must be a bargain of the century :P

BTW I am going to JB Warrigal tmr and check my luck. Got a new NAS and looking for some bargain HDD to put in

    • The $77 was the last unit, you won't find anything there. Even the 2TB Seagate at $99 are not in stock there.

  • 1 x 2TB Hitachi left at JB Warringah Mall tonite. $99.

NB this may not work with all media players, the Popcorn Hour, yes. I have formatted to NTFS (& disabled the auto install s/w for some uses)
