  • Rockchip processor and 2GiB of RAM are both "oof".

For a phone or tablet. This is a car media unit, almost exclusively used for Android Auto or CarPlay. Anything more is a bonus. Be realistic, dude.

      • +1

But looks like you have to pay extra for the USB dongle to be able to use Android Auto or Apple CarPlay.

        • +1

You're right. That sucks - an extra $100 or so makes this deal far less worth it.

        • +3

You can use the Headunit Reloaded app if you're using Android Auto - no dongle required (I use it on my low-spec Android HU and it works brilliantly).

    • Just like smart TVs they don't seem to put decent hardware into them.
Mind you do the Pioneer, Kenwood/JVC and Sony units around this price perform the same with half as many features

Re the build integrity? You will get good and bad in most brands of head units. Price paid is no guarantee.
I have had a Joying brand one in my main car for the past 6 yrs and it has had zero faults / failures.
The sound quality is great and the reception strength of the radio is amazing.
The blutooth, wifi & screen also work like you would expect them to.
GPS signal is fast to lock on and accurate even with the receiver mounted under the dash.
Being Android any of the free nav apps can be installed with free updates but these days limited to apps suitable for droid 5.
On our newer car I opted for an upgrade to a JBL system costing almost 4 times more and the Joying unit leaves it for dead in every aspect.
So… dont assume that something you are familiar with the brand name of or has a rip off price tag is always a superior product because they can also cut corners to pocket more bucks too.
I checked out those brands you mentioned and
decided on the Joying unit as none of them impressed me.
Decades ago people swore by TV's by the name of AWA, HMV, etc and mocked brands like LG & Hisense. Look at them now.
In the product world there are diamonds and rubbish, advertising and price are not the clue to finding them.
BTW… I have no knowledge of the quality of Eonon head units.

        • +1 to Joying. Android 4.4 1Gb, still soldiering on 5 years after install in a 4WD that's been bush regularly. Clean RCA pre-out so good with an external amp. Runs Torque Pro and iGo navigation (off line maps including Tele Track) and streams Spotify, all simultaneously.

        • My joying is 4 years old and has far surpassed my expectations.

          Great value for money

        • wow, seems like there are many positive review on Joying here… I'm thinking of getting new head unit too from Aliexpress.

I’ve owned a few Eonon units over the years and each time it ends up being the screen either completely dies, or developers other issues that make it almost unusable.

Decent HU’s for the price and the features, but the screen is always the weak point of the unit.

Ahhhhh good ol Eonon head unit hahaha

    • I put a single din Eonon head unit in my 2003 Magna that outlasted the transmission…
      So yeah, good ol Eonon!

  • +1

I have one of these Eonon unit on my Mazda6. Its been good for the past few years. For those who complained lack of memory, this is a car unit with most of its functions locked up. Its not like you will download games and play on it.
I like how you can adjust the unit lights to match your car interior.

  • No DAB? I don't get what this unit offers over bluetooth pairing a phone to the stock head unit? I was going to bite but can't see the point.

    • yeah, i don't get what the go is with no DAB on almost all units, need to buy it separately.

      • I have a hands free cradle for my phone. The phone has maps, Spotify, and OK Google will take vocal commands to call and text for me. It has a superior mounting position and angle compared to the head unit. It is a pretty crappy Motorola 4 g4 play, and despite loading a custom Lineage os Android 10 ROM on it, its showing its age with its speed. In regards to the Eonon, I'm also factoring in the theft attractiveness of these units. They're built with a Mazda fascia, but thieves don't know that. For me, I think I'd be better buying a new phone. Thanks for the post DannyBoy, but I reckon they're asking a bit too much for these head units. I'd maybe bite at ~$200. I wonder how many of these they think they'll sell, considering the car is now 6-10 years old, and phones now can do (well) the bulk of the work that head units used to do? Sorry if I'm appearing rude, I don't mean to be dismissive of your post. I'm just discussing the pros and cons of installing one of these units. Thank you for your post.

        • You have to be wary of mobile phone rules in different states as they all vary. Also who wants to look at a tiny phone when you can have a nice 8 or 9 inch screen. Give me a big screen any day and I'll use my mobile phone when not driving.
