Should have gone to dan murphy. They would have price beat by a $1

    • -1

Please note that there is currently a limit of 3 bottles per member.

      Yeah right

      • +15

        Whooshhh

      • Besides the whoosh below, it's not uncommon for an Ozbargainer to make multiple accounts, possibly they roped their family members who have the $30 costco membership to buy on their behalf :o

        • +9

True ozrbargainers will have 10 family sharing 1 Costco account.

  • -3

Is this the real stuff? There are a lot of imitations out there…

    • +41

It's Costco. Not your local dimly lit grocer.

      • -6

        Ahh so that's ok then.

    • +55

I've had very expensive moutai and and run-of-the-mill moutai - both tasted like rocket fuel to me.

      • +30

I've always wanted to taste rocket fuel. Sold!

        • I would suggest truffle oil, at first I thought they used petroleum in place of cooking oil.

      • +3

Maybe if you wash out the weak sauce from your mouth it might taste better.

      • +1

Yeah, they market it like it's whisky but it's like drinking a Russian's piss.

        • +2

I thought Smirnoff tastes like Russian piss… but if you gave me a choice between Moutai and Smirnoff, I'd pick Smirnoff everytime.

          • +1

@Serapis: Sounds like you should just get some Russian piss mate, instead of wasting your money on Smirnoff.

        • -2

          How much like it? /Trump

        • +1

Describe what Russian's piss taste like, then I can tell you if you are wrong with that.

        • -1

          Is that you, Mr Trump?

      • -2

smells like soy sauce to me…the price has been on the rise for a while….only good to use as a bribe or gift to corrupt officials….LOL

        • +22

          2 possibilities
          - your soy sauce is off
          - your moutai is off

      • +1

        Same here

      • +2

The 50 year old is paradise, much better than this run of the mill…

Also $6k…. but you get a nice box with dragon bottle and a copper cup.

Got them as gifts but would never buy it myself…it goes down too easy

        • +5

Who are you bribing with $6000 gifts?

          • @joshk: It’s the other way around thankfully ;)

      • TIL that rocket fuel

has the taste and aroma of tropical fruits, pears, smoky nuts and sweet plums.

        • smoky russian nuts

      • Haha from memory the taste was like kerosene mixed with dry cleaning fluid (basically rocket fuel) but the after effects were decidedly worth it!

    • aliexpress cheaper ?

  • This or soju?

    • +15

      Sake

    • +3

17% ABV vs 53%, how drunk do you want to get?

      • +10

53% is weak there are ones sold in china with 70%

        • +3

That sounds like it would eat my body from the inside out

        • +1

I mean, you can buy 76% Bundy Rum if you really want to party.

        • -2

I don’t think 70% is for consumption. Sounds like a cooking abv.

          • @ATangk: Many overproof rums are bottled at 75.5% for consumption

            • +1

@ripoffmerchant: Overproofed rum is not for straight consumption. It is intended to be diluted.

        • Lol.. We not talking hand sanitizers you know?

        • +1
        • +1

yeah, the ones in China are lethal - note, you will get none of the 'tasting notes' described above, just the taste of rocket fuel burning your esophagus on the way down.

        • Hand sanitizer

        • Ahh Bacardi 151… a painful casualty of political correctness. Too many blurry evenings and hard mornings.

          • @Melong: I’ve got a half a bottle in my cupboard. It is fun to give people just a little sip and watch their reaction. You are, basically, inhaling vapours. It has a flame arrester and a list of warnings as long as your arm.

They stopped making it because idiots kept making flaming drinks from it and they were worried about being sued.

    • +2

39+ bottles of soju or this?

depends how long your bender is

    • +1

      Ginger beer?

    • +8

      Hmm… "Asian" "Jap"…
      What are you? Noble Monkey?

      • +2

        Why is "Asian" racist?

        • +5

The word itself is not, but when putting it into this whole context…
          reading≠understanding

        • +1

The correct term is Oriental ya racist

    • +2

Why ask, are only english crap allowed to be more expensive? privileged much

    • +5

your comment smells a bit off

    • +13

Wanna come off racist much? Lol unless you’re also questioning / asking why a bottle of european johnnie walker king george cost so much? Or even why a $300+ champagne exists cause because it’s just wine

    • +6

“Jap” - are you seriously that out of touch?

    • Have you ever heard something luxury like an Asian stone worth 20 million AUD?

    • While it's expensive but not Grange, Hill of Grace, Lafite or Haut-Brion expensive.

    • +9

@fuzor wassup ignorant bogan, have u been to Macau, Singapore, Japan, Hong Kong, Shanghai?

      • +4

Yeah, I've been to Maccas, and I've Sungbefore

    • +1

Maybe you should ask why a Patek is more superior than a Grand Seiko? Does it wear better or is it the fact it's marked up to no end?

  • +1

This stuff is the bomb, thanks OP.

    • Having tasted a few different varieties, I reckon you could use it to make a bomb.

  • +27

Why does it come in a toilet disinfectant bottle?

    • +2

Everytime I used to see the billboard ad for this near Melb Airport it made me think it was a motor oil type of product.

      • +3

        -somewhere in China-

Crikey, that was a PITA but the bathroom's finally clean.

Now to treat myself to that bottle of grog I've been saving…

        -10 mins later-

FUUUUUUUUUUU- SOMEONE CALL AN AMBULANCE, IT HAPPENED AGAIN!

      • Yea, try to put in your ride, it will fly you to the sky.

      • Saw the billboards at various international airports too. I wonder who they're targeting. I've tried this and no thanks.

    • +2

Well, it's concentration is perfectly suitable for use as a disinfectant

    • +1

Reminds me of tooth whitening mouthwash.

      • I am so glad I'm not the only one that thinks this

    • Why does toilet disinfectant come in a baijiu bottle?

  • +11

Can someone please explain to me what makes this so expensive?

    • +21

Making rice-derived home brew in wet gym socks takes time and perseverance.

      • +1

This quite accurately describes my first impression:

Brian Fantana: No, she gets a special cologne. It’s called Sex Panther by Odeon. It’s illegal in nine countries. Yep, it’s made with bits of real panther, so you know it’s good.

        Ron Burgundy: It’s quite pungent.

        Brian Fantana: Oh yeah.

Ron Burgundy: It’s a formidable scent. It stings the nostrils. In a good way.

        Brian Fantana: Yep.

Ron Burgundy: Brian, I’m gonna be honest with you, that smells like pure gasoline.

    • +2

Aimed at Chinese expats in Australia. Extremely cashed up demographic. I have drank 21 gun salute. Moutai is awful tbh.

    • +8

Baijiu is the most drunk spirit in the world.
When you have over a billion people drinking and this is suppose to be the top shelf stuff, what did you expect?

I haven’t tried but I’ve only heard bad things. But I love anchovies on my pizza whereas micheal angelo doesnt , each to their own

      • I dont see how it can be - at this kind of price!

    • +1

According to Chinese culture: Buy expensive wines, display and lock them in your wine cabinet. Only take out and drink a bit when true friends come to your house. That's how you show them how you treasure them (the more expensive wine the better). Bai jiu = white wine, made from cereal but most often from rice/sticky rice. In terms of quality, wine from this brand is distilled and kept for at least 5 years before being sold to you, and most specially it has Chinese mountain floral smell.

    • respect, your wealth and prosperity when you gift it to someone.
      thats it, really.

They have the ability to make $390 liquor, but not enough to make milk powder.

    • +1

All popular powder made from NZ

      • +7

        Which they bought the factory…

    • they have the ability to buy it overseas. itll be too cheap if it was local.

      • Right, just like this liquor is too cheap.

    • +6

China makes enough milk powers for local consumption but consumers lost the trust previously due to the San Lu incident. Trust takes ages to restore.

      • +3

It's not the amount that I was referring to, it's the quality. If they are sophisticated enough to make liquor that attracts a $390 price tag, then they should be able to produce high quality milk powder. You'd think milk is more important than liquor, right?

        • +5

Do you reckon VW can’t make quality cars because of the emissions scandals? It’s the profit causing it. Nothing to do with the capability.

          • +1

@AussieGargain: If a company needs to cheat or cut corners or use inferior parts/ingredients just to turn a profit, then yes, they are not capable.

            • +2

@kahn: that is such a generalised comment . depends on your product.
a Company has a budget and product parts need to be chosen / sacrifced to fit, not necessarily because they are not capable

              • +1

@astarman: There are minimum standards that need to be meant. A product generally should not cause harm (if used correctly, no allergies, etc.). If the law sets standards and the market sets prices, then if a company cannot meet either of those criteria then they are not able to produce their goods for any meaningful length of time. To be clear, I am not arguing this in the realm of what is theoretically possible, I am referring to the real world.

                • +1

@kahn: yeh that makes more sense. thats not what you said before lol

its like saying iphone SE - with its ancient design cut corners cos it was cheaper to make tho budget phone…. therefor apple is incapable…
or buying some WPC vs WPI protein. WPC is inferior - so therefore companies selling it are not capable?

                  • @astarman: I admit that I did not expect such scrutiny :-P
