Supercharge Q85 Stop-Start Car Battery $209.30 C&C @ Autobarn

160

Have been looking for this stop-start battery for my CX-5 quite some time after doing some research. The brands seems to be quite reliable but price has been around $300 mark. Autobarn has special which is cheapest I have seen, but the stuff told me the sale is only for today. So better purchase online and click/collect later.

  • The model of battery: mfd23ef
  • Battery type: Stop-Start EFB car battery with 600CCA
  • They are not allowed to touch your car so be prepared to install the battery yourself. For me, the main point is to drop off the old battery so I just did the swap at the spot and was allowed to leave the old battery for them to recycle.

  • Not sure if Costco would be cheaper. If you have their membership might be worth calling up to find out if they stock it. I have bought 4 car batteries from them already. Seems to be half the price of what other autoparts store sell them for.

    • Damn, did not realise this and bought a battery yesterday

Yeah, I did my homework already a while ago. Costco stocks different brand and price is not that cheap I remember

    • Costco does not stock Q85 batteries for stop-start, they only stock standard mid/lower range Exide.

  • Can be found cheaper on Google.

I tried ordering with them already and they never have stock. Once order placed, they will tell you no stock and ask you to choose different brand.

Didn't even know they made different batteries for stop start vehicles.

    • +3

Yeah, this type is much more expensive than normal one as they are deep cycle ones. Normal ones cannot bear the stop start deep discharge and will die much quicker from my research.

Stop Start is lose/lose in my books. I disabled it permanently on my car long time ago. Life is good

        • Yeah turned mine off too. Can't stand the slight delay in taking off.

      • Much more expensive with only 24month warranty compared to Supercharge brands 36month warranty batteries .
As an Oz Bargainer it killed me paying the premium . It was like being forced to buy an Iphone .
What turned my hand was that I read that the charging system on my stop start car was tuned to charge an AGM battery .
I turn the S/S crap off as it annoys me but …

    • +3

AGM and they suck lol hate the entire invention of stop start, all it does it cause wear I say

      • Yeah I always thought 60% of wear happened on start up . Pretty sure it's some sort of marketing jingle but surely there's some truth to it .

Pro tip: drop off your old car battery at a recycling centre and you'll get paid back whatever it's weight is for the lead value. Usually somewhere around $5 for a regular sized car battery.

  • Good price for a Q85 EFB battery.

Not worth it at full price, which is around $300 from memory, for a Supercharge. Otherwise Every Battery sells Panasonic OEM Made in Japan 670CCA for $300, and I think Delkors for around $250, which would be better quality for the money.

I have had bad experience with the Supercharge brand. Eg early failure of internal plates so got a replacement which didn't last more than a year anyhow. I use ACDelco and Century in my cars.

  • Forget about this dinosaur tech, spend a bit more and get a lithium polymer to suit your vehicle (size and ah), and one of the last things you'll ever have to be concerned about is your battery.

They have really come down in price within the last year or so.

    • I agree with you that LiPo batteries are great but, do they make ones that can replace your cars starting battery? As from what I've read, the close proximity of the battery to the heat from engine causes premature failure.

      • 500-750 price range for one of these batteries. I guess you're only paying for longer lifespan, all in all.

Specific use case scenario might be worth the $, but I guess still not at parity of Lead acid just yet.

Either that or you're looking to keep your vehicle for an extended period of time.

My experience with Supercharge has not been good. I've had 2 batteries that have failed just outside the warranty period where as batteries from other brands have lasted longer (with comparable specs). I wish Exide (Costco/Bunnings) or Yuasa had a deal on.

  • If you are in Perth WA, Batteries Plus in Osborne Park were very reasonably priced and had stock of the battery I was after. I needed the same Start/Stop AGM D23/Q85 battery as OP (Mazda CX-5) which was $239 with extended warranty if you registered online (2-3 years I think) I hate the start/stop feature and always turn it off when driving and would have gone with the Exide red top (5 year wty) at $179 (also at Batteries Plus) but it's the Mrs car and she likes the feature unfortunately!
