  • $975.00, itech but don't even read how to post a proper deal?

      For a 12V battery !!!!!!!

      LOL….

No wonder they didn't want to mention the price.

  • +3

Why is this product nearly double the price of your competitor's LiFePO4 battery of equal AH?

    • Thanks for getting in touch.

The iTECH120X Lithium Battery has many benefits over other lithium batteries:

      • Prismatic cells
      • Waterproof & Dustproof (IP67)
      • Higher discharge current (peak and continuous)
      • Long warranty backed by a bricks and mortar store that has been in business for 14 years
      • More usable capacity
      • More cycles
      • A fully customised BMS to allow charging from non-lithium profile chargers
      • Internal heat shielding for under bonnet use
      • Genuine specifications
      • Unlimited parallel connection
      • Series connection up to 24v
      • Designed to handle corrugated roads and ocean swell
      • A safe mode installed into the battery that puts the battery to "sleep" if it detects any issues such as but not limited to over-discharge, over-voltage, overheating, cross polarity
      • Currently being used Australia wide by caravan installers

      Kind regards

      • Fair enough, I compared it to a lower tier LiPo initially but this has the same total discharge capacity and higher peak discharge rate at a lower price.

It appears to the be the similar weight and the same housing.

Genuinely interested. Looking to get several batteries for use with a 48v electric marine motor.

        • Thank you for your consideration.

        • +3

12 months warranty says it all. I'd question the price markdown. For far less than the claimed original price you can get high quality lithium with 5 year warranty eg https://www.baintech.com.au/leisure-products/battery-trays-b…

          • @[Deactivated]: I don't even take note of the RRPs. I cannot imagine even one person paying their RRP.

The baintechs dimensions are quite large. Not suitable for my application. I fixed cavity size to store the batts. I also don't need the chargers. I hate getting stuff I don't need even if it doesn't cost me more.

I'm in the market for a portable 12V ~120Ah LiFePO4 for camping and have been researching for a few months now. It's good to see another Aussie company looking to make good quality products. That said, from my research I think we can take many of these claims as marketing speak. Here's my take:

        Prismatic cells
        Most brand-name LiFePO4 12V 100+Ah use prismatic cells
        Waterproof & Dustproof (IP67)
Most brands are dust proof, some claim to be waterproof without IP67
Higher discharge current (peak and continuous)
Average discharge for batteries of this type is ~100-200A (from memory) which should be fine for TYPICAL use of this type and size of battery. They all provide specs so check if this is an issue for your application.
Long warranty backed by a bricks and mortar store that has been in business for 14 years
3 years is industry standard although occasionally you'll find 2 years
        More usable capacity
More usable capacity than lead-acid and other non-LiFePO4 batteries, not more than equivalents.
        More cycles
More cycles than non-"lthiums", not LiFePO4 equivalents.
A fully customised BMS to allow charging from non-lithium profile chargers
Useful, and rare to find so far.
Internal heat shielding for under bonnet use
Without specification this is meaningless. It may or may not be an advantage
        Genuine specifications
Fair point. Most reputable makers have genuine specs but it's caveat emptor if you go for cheaper OS batteries typically found on Ebay etc
        Unlimited parallel connection
May be and advantage if you need large capacity. Not all batteries can be paralleled
        Series connection up to 24v
        Available from other reputable makers
Designed to handle corrugated roads and ocean swell
Peace of mind when it comes to warranty but there are plenty of robust 12V LiFePO4s around which do the same. Boaties have been using liFePO4s for years without significant issue. Ditto 4W drivers.
A safe mode installed into the battery that puts the battery to "sleep" if it detects any issues such as but not limited to over-discharge, over-voltage, overheating, cross polarity
This is what a good BS does. Most good makes have something similar
Currently being used Australia wide by caravan installers
Means little. Most builders will ask you what batteries, sizes and systems you want installed. Enerdrive is very popular for example. It's relatively early days so the brand shakeout/reliability has yet to be seriously tested.

    • Thanks for getting in touch.
This battery is a storage battery. To be used for running appliances.
We do have a lithium cranking battery its called the iTECH1420CA.

Just a tip my dude, your "deal" looks like an ad.

Most stores have their own website to put all those details on.

        It should have been;

        Battery - normally $$$ now $$$.
        Tech specs.
        Link.

It feels like im reading a tv shopping script.

Welcome to OzB; just make sure your deals are truly deals, OzB unique codes that are even the tiniest margin better are often welcomed also; the members here are ruthless and penny pinching… which I'd like to condemn, but it's kind of the entire point of the website :P

Storage (off grid) battery prices are still in the inflated, profit gouging territory…once they come down in price and go up in charging simplicity they will be more widely adopted but currently (no pun intended) they are still not a viable investment. I assume these lithium units require special chargers and battery monitors to ensure safe charging?

    • Nope, lifepo4 behave similarly emough to a lead acid battery, minus the volt drop off as they deplete.

You're thinking of Lithium Ion or Lithium Polymer.

People just dont use them as much due to the lower total watt capacity (thanks to the lower voltages per cell)

      • PRICE is the killer atm.

Good news is that after these 100+Ah 12V batteries are "done", (some/most of) the batteries should be able to be repurposed.

    • Hello there!

      Thanks for getting in touch.
Our battery can accept a charge from non lithium profile chargers. That is one of our main selling points.

  • +1

I've seen these overpriced items in my Facebook feed on numerous occasions. Their batteries, and even the 'jump start' batteries all seem overpriced.

14 comments, zero +'s … yeah not a good start to OzB. You'll need to better than the typical 'facebook' mindless consumer here.

    • Lithium batteries is an area of varying quality. I know a bit about it from the motorhome leisure battery aspect. The Facebook specials type are likely rubbish quality with a poor cycle count (the number of times they can be discharged/recharged in their useful lifetime).

I have no idea about this brand except that I think Redback are an Australian company doing solar batteries (if that who they're talking about).

BTW - a battery like this (decent quality) is about £900 in the UK! Solar stuff is much cheaper here. They give more useful specs there (like cycle count)

To be fair to OP, he/she is taking the time to respond, even if the response is not technical.

The business plan you described is not unique to OP. It is rife in the battery industry but you're right, it is not acceptable within OzBargain.

Tip for OP - in OzBargain, you need to be able to qualify and verify why your product is a good deal. If you are selling a private label product, ie. no exact same product because everyone gives it their own label, you must be able to show your price vs a competitor's price when comparing a like for like product. Not compare to a made up RRP.

      • I agree, customer support is great. Some things are not allowed not only on Oz Bargain but by fair trading as well. I am not saying it is happening here, but this is straight of ACCC!

        "What are misleading prices?
        Misleading prices may include:

a ‘before’, ‘was’ or ‘strike through’ price that is not the price those items were sold for in a reasonable period immediately before the sale period started."

        • Seen many people on their Facebook page complaining at buying the battery for $1950 to now see it’s $975….they do a good job of rotating their Facebook advertising I will give them that.

    • Isn’t this the definition of commerce?

  • Is this battery better than the competitors that are cheaper?
    For example:
    $539
    https://www.extremebattery.com.au/collections/100ah/products…

    • +3
      • Does not accept PayPal
      • has multiple trading names under their ABN all with - poor reviews this one included
      • no ABN listed on site
      • no physical address

(Also thought it is worth pointing out - very important to buy from a reputable or at least a traceable seller. There are plenty and I mean PLENTY of big capacity batteries that are no where near stated capacity. These dodgy sellers put in a couple of cells so you have a working product but the remainder of the space is filled with sand bags. 500AH? Maybe 25AH.)

      • Ha ha. Not sure about sand bags, but decent summary. Not all cells are the same, nor is construction, nor are all BMS's equivalent.

        • I got a DC-DC charger that actually had a sandbag to make it feel substantial. Still charges though but that thing feels like a toy. Has the weight of a 3-4 50c coins after sandbag removed.

          • @[Deactivated]: Hard to believe but cheaper than a block of lead I guess. There's so much dodgy /counterfeit stuff coming out of parts of Asia now I shouldn't be surprised.

    • I would definitely say so.

Look at the higher tier competitors (eg Enerdrive) prices and youll realise this is also on the cheaper side

    • lol

  • So could this work effectively with something like the engel smart battery box (Series 2)? I bought one a while ago and have been waiting for a deep cycle battery to come up cheap, but this battery seems to tick a few boxes by having a much longer lifespan/flexibility. thinking it would be cool to run a camping fridge/lights off of with solar charger input.

    • Thanks for getting in touch.
Yes, this battery fits right in the engel smart battery box (series 2).
We have many customers using our iTECH120X with that very box.

    • +1

Much longer 'claimed' lifespan, not backed up by warranties at this point unfortunately. Nothing wrong with deep cycle/AGM (eg FullRiver) but the big advantage of lithiums is weight/size/portability.

  • +2

Low energy developments is one of the better ebay sellers, and a comparison price is a Solarking 12V 120ah Lithium Battery for $775 - which appears to have a better 80% DOD (depth of discharge) cycle capability…

    • lol

    • The website you linked to looks like someone threw up in a shed. Why would you even bother?

      • Poor website, decent batteries from my reading, but it's early days for many brands.

        Btw he's a reseller

Lots of discussion on caravan forum on this battery https://www.caravanersforum.com/viewtopic.php?f=111&t=78121
Of interest is the number of people who have been kicked off Itechworld facebook page for questioning specs etc. Not sure I would trust a company who silences the questioners.

    • It's facebook, 99% of 'questioners' are faceless, uneducated, accusers.

I'll be concerned if they silence or unpublish a tester.

    • That's pretty interesting as it's not physically possible for a business to "silence" people on Facebook.
The post you refer to on this caravan forum is from 2018 and is clearly competitors trying to cause trouble.
Thanks for your feedback though, we take everything on board.

      • Aug 3 2020
Despite having purchased one of the Itechworld batteries in September 2018 and having had nothing but praise for the battery during that whole time, I have been banned from their Facebook page.

I had the audacity to ask some questions on a recent post they put-up regarding their lithium starter batteries. Yes, they have these great starter batteries available and they appear to be well suited to under-bonnet use with a temperature operating range of -20ºC to 85ºC.

I had the temerity to query the charging rate, which was specified as no greater than 30 amps. I was asking, because most alternators can output MUCH more than 30 amps…the new one I've just installed is a 370 amp unit.

Anyway, I went to ask another question and found I was blocked. I tried sending them a Private Message and it bounced back at me with a red note along the lines of my message wouldn't be sent.

So, I guess the moral of the story is…don't question the gurus at Itechworld.

        • Hi,

This is a very interesting statement.
I would send this info into [email protected] and I m sure the guys will look at it.
To my knowledge, we cannot block people from Facebook.
To answer your question the standard charge current is 30amp but the iTECH1420CA, this is the ideal current to charge the battery; however, it can handle a lot higher charging current if need be.

        • @WV1 Conventional wisdom appears to be to limit charging to 0.3-0.5C, C being battery capacity, although you can go to 1C or 2C depending on battery etc.

If you were intending to recharge at high amps I'd be doing a LOT of reading first. Most articles I've read suggest high amp charging reduces battery life. Personally I wouldn't want to be putting 300+A into a 100-200Ah lithium but I'm no expert.

Similarly the optimal discharge seems to be 30-50% DoD although lithium will allow "100%" (not quite) discharge with minimal effect. Most articles suggest you only do this irregularly.

Not sure how relevant this is but you might be interested anyway: https://www.victronenergy.com/blog/2019/10/07/careful-altern…

            @[Deactivated]: Sorry for the confusion.
I was posting a forum post from a "Roachie" not from me on the caravan forum.
He has had a lot to say over the years on these batteries as have a lot of others.

            • @WV1: Ah, ok. I've come across him on Exploroz. Seems pretty genuine.

    • lol, you can't get kicked off a facebook page.

  • Seems very popular.

  • What does the 120X represent?? A model number or USABLE capacity ?

The last iTech 120 battery I tested was in fact 92 amps before shutdown and had 72 x $3 alibaba cells in it.

  • So if I wire up 20 of them, I can power my house?

    • Lithium batteries in parallel will be limited to the maximum discharge current of 1 x battery's BMS board, although the capacity is the total of all the batteries. Not recommended as they will get out of balance.
      …and never series connect them.

      • Well that saves me $17,550. Thanks!

    • You could not wire them in series to create 240v.
You could connect them up in parallel and then run 240v via inverters though.
