4g model is dual sim. Recommended

  • is it dual sim?

    • +1

      Yes. 5G is single sim.

  • +2

Oh wow this is a fantastic deal, great phone for the price.
Still very happy with how my launch 5g model has held up and is still super snappy.

  • +5

    Nice find.
I purchased one recently and it's a great phone. Just have to return mines as the phone, upgraded to Color 7.1 (from 6), which doesn't support my universities (or eduroams) protocols or something, so cannot get on the network for wifi (university fault for outdated wifi, is a major issue with chinese andriod 10 units, had issue with both Nokia and Xiaomi). It is a really good and would highly recommend.

Massive amount of phone for the money and 2 year warranty is also amazing. As for Oppo's customer support (chat) they are amazing and very friendly and helpful with no waiting times (my experience). They approved return and provided a letter for the company I purchased from in around 20min (I live in rural, no oppo store). Compared to Xiaomi they were great and I can see it's an area they are trying to compete in.

The camera is the highlight for me. Very good photos and so many features. It is abit heavy of the beauti side on selfies, which can be toned down, but produces clear video and cool features like 3D (never figured out how to use) and slow mo, which was great.

Cannot comment on 5G as I am with boost and don't have it

Would highly recommend this and don't think you'll get much more bang for your buck

  • Worth upgrading from a s10 plus?

    • +2

I think thats more of a sideways upgrade….sidegrade?

Im waiting for the x2 pro to drop down and keeping my s10+

No point in trying to keep up with the latest and greatest. 1k+ for phones is just crazy

      • I gave up long time ago trying to have the latest handset. Honestly, there is hardly ever a real reason for it. I am just not a fan of Samsung and got this for cheap. Prefer the less known brands such as oppo, xiaomi, oneplus,…

    • +1

Nope, that's a slight downgrade. S10+ is a better phone in most aspects except price.

      • +1

Even cpu? Doesn't our stock have exynos?

        • +1

I'm keeping my S10+ for now. Higher resolution, headphone jack, Widevine L1 etc.

        • Yeah, the SD855 chipset on this handset is slightly better than the Exynos 9820 on the S10+. Apart from that, I don't see any other areas where this phone outperforms S10+.

        • Not all, G-97x0 is SD

  • +1

    wow buy !!!

  • Wow, attempting, does anyone know if b28 and VoLET supported?

  • +2

    Not bad, good proice

  • Waiting for $399 :p

    • +1

A bird in the hand is better than 2 in the bush.

      • Where's the bush?

  • I hope the oppo find x2 pro will also drop that much

  • Is this better than poco f2?

    • Same doubt

  • +1

The Poco f2 Pro has a better CPU, GPU and battery for about $100 more from mymobile. This is cheaper and is still great value for money but to me the poco seems to be better value for money.

    • +2

I'm actually leaning more towards this for much better camera, night mode, telephoto lens and much better fingerprint reader. But yeah, its great to finally have some decent mid range options that give real choice. You'd go for the Poco if CPU, GPU and 5G are more important to you.

I have no idea whats better between ColorOS and MIUI though…

      • +2

I've got the 5g and it has been great. Since updating to coloros7 I haven't noticed any slow downs. Coloros is looks different at first but doesn't take long to adapt. I came from a mi max 3.

Only downsides are not being able to find a glass screen protector (which may interfere with the fingerprint reader) and dust gets in the selfie camera slow. No headphone jack is a slight bummer though.

        • +1

The reviews say the always-on display doesn't show notifications, has this changed with ColorOS7?

          • +1

@Dontreadthis: Just turned it on. There are the notification icons and there is the option to wake screen to the lock screen.

That said, there is some chinese text on the always on display as part of the lock screen message. Can't figure out how to change it. Yet.

Edit: figured out the chinese text was the lunar calendar. These settings are in "Screen-off Clock".

            • +1

@Caped Baldy: awesome, no notification icons on always-on display would have been a deal breaker for me.

    • +1

$100 more? For the 256gb? I think it would be around $180 more for the poco 256gb

    • +1

      http://buybuybox.com/product.php?id=51435

Same price if you buy from here. $25 shipping. Takes about 10 days

Oops didn't realise oppo was 265g

  • +1

Any decent case to go with this?

    • +2

Comes with a pretty premium case and screen protector on it already. I purchased a cheap ebay jelly type case with a raised lip around the screen and Air Cushion corners. Protects alot better than the provided case.

PureFlex 2.0 also make a similar case for around $35, which seems abit better again and then there is just your normal ebay styled cases (mirror, flip fold etc)

Also note the one I brought doesn't look great on the phone. In though it is clear, it is alittle yellow (tint) and hides most of the shine on the back.

      • I'm used to getting Spigen. Unfortunately, it doesn't seem like Spigen has a case for this particular model.

        I'll check out PureFlex

      • +1

Pureflex is $30 delivered from Optus.

    • +1

The case is very good. Waste of money buying another one unless you want different looks. The lips on the bezels have a good height difference and the plastic feels nice to touch. Doesn't scratch or mark easily and good snug fit.

  • Is this model the single sim version of this? https://www.5gworld.com.au/collections/featured-product/prod…

Sister in law wants something like my reno 5 I bought from jb's but I don't think she'd need the dual sim

    • +2

This is 4G dual sim version

      • Thanks for the quick response :)

  • +3

    Can’t go wrong with $500. Bought one….Done :)

    • Actually I sold my S20 plus, replaced with this one.

  • No headphone jack?

  • Is this 5G?

    • +2

No, if you want 5G you need to go for the Reno 5G (although that is single-sim only).

      • Thanks

  • Very happy with this mid-range phone

    • +4

This isn't a mid range phone… I consider it last year high end for current mid range cost.

  • +5

    Site: 5g world
    Phone: 4g

    lol

    • +6

The store is backwards compatible ;)

  • +1

I went for the 5G version for $597 delivered last week with otherwise same specs. Upgraded from a Pixel 2 and enjoying the difference - tho adjusting to larger size. I'm not sure if it was just my Pixel 2 but the recording volume was really low taking videos.

Getting 80Mb/s download speed on 4G+ as not in 5G area yet. Was getting more like 30Mb/s on 4G in this same area with Pixel 2. Does this 4G model connect to 4G+ also? I hadn't really heard of it until doing a speed test with the Reno 5G.

    • Please provide / post the link for '5G version for $597'.

  • +1

Does this have a headphone jack?
I think its only got usb earphones?
Was this an annoyance for those who purchased this?
Assuming ozb'ers will pair this to their bargain Sony/Bose NC headsets lol

edit: further research confirms earphones provided are usb lol.

    • +1

Just USBC - I've had it that way for the past year coming from the Pixel2. You get used to it. I still have plenty of headphones with the standard jacks that I just use with USBC converters. Just bought a bunch of them from Ebay on put them on each set so not an issue at all. Keep a spare one in my work bag in case ever needed

      • Can you recommend any? Do they work fine , like sound quality, lag? Same as using jack.

      • awesome cheers, already planned it, too bad the phone is already out of stock haha.

  • is this an worthy upgrade from my s8+? thinking of getting pixel 4a or waiting Pixel 5 or this.

    • -1

Wait…Oppos might have great specs but the customer service in Australia is shocking and pretty non existence. Plus they release new phones all the time and ignore the older models when they need patches for the system.

  • +1

    Ozbargained?

    • Looks like it. Was hoping to get one tonight. Too bad

  • +1

    this or Huawei Nova 5t?

    • I am wondering the same thing. How does this compare to Huawei Nova 5T?

  • How to clear ram in oppo?

    • +1

There's a clear button when you show active apps. FYI, my reno 5g is showing 3.37 gb free of 8gb after I cleared it.

  • +1

    Damn… Out of stock

  • +1

    Ozbed, 15mins late…

  • +2

Thanks OP purchased 1. Now lets see if they actually deliver it or cancel my order again as last time.

    • Can't speak for anyone else, but I got a shipping notice on mine.

      • +1

I got shipping notification as well 😁

  • -2

were there only 4 in stock or something?

  • -2

    wtf how many was stocked?

  • -1

Ok….wait for next deal then time to upgrade from my cracked s9+

  • Wife ordered this and it arrived today. The clown from courseplease that dropped it off, literally threw it on the ground on the landing of our apartment. I went to investigate as the thud sounded like someone fell over. I hope those that ordered get a better courier then the one that dropped ours…

    • Should survive inside the box. I would rather get it early than them just chuck a we missed you card without knocking at all. But again, they should have known better its a valuable item as a deliverer.

      • It appears fine but since it's not for me I am not gonna boot it. Was bubble wrapped inside the cardboard box so 5gworld packed it very well.

    • At least you got your phone.
I got an email at 9:40am stating they had left a 'We missed you card' as I was not home.
I hadn't left my house the whole day.
Went down to check, no card either.
Will wait to see what happens the next couple of days.
