Once again, came cross these shopping for fathers day and found the below for great prices. Lowest I've seen tracked on CamelCamelCamel.

$46.40 Wera 3950/9 Hex-Plus Multicolor Stainless 1 Hex-Plus Stainless Metric 1 L-Key Set 9 Pieces, 9 Pieces

$38.98 Wera 967/9 TX Multicolor HF 1 TX HF 1 L-Key Set with Holding Function 9 Pieces, 9 Pieces

The Wera range seems to have been taken off the Bunnings online store. :(

These are typically are around the $80-90AUD mark Retail at RS/Bunnings.
Can stack with 3% off GC + ~~the 6% on Home via Shopback. or go into Bunnings for 10%PB~~
$41.90 @ Bunnings via Price Beat 10% - Receipt here

Bunnings 92.90
Bunnings 73.90

Other than the top quality. I have been using these and other Wera variants and can vouch for the features. The Hex plus heads/ Torx friction function and holder clip make this a standout vs other L keys from Wiha / Bonhus / PB Swiss keys etc.

Someone did a review on these already.

I have bought a set of each. They are almost half of the retail price. Thanks

  • I'd love to buy quality tools, but I just don't look after things enough, so it would be a waste of money for me.

    • +3

They still have the quality. Cheap tools are shit, even if you look after them well :)

    • +2

These take a pretty good beating. Especially the Inox stainless steel coating.

The only weakness of these L-keys are….toddlers. I've got 3 mixed sets from lost keys as, these are colourful and my daughter thinks they are toys. :(

      • +1

for me personally, I won't use these tools frequently enough to justify, or undo/tighten the same screws frequently enough for it to get damaged. Good price tho.

  • +2

I don't think these will qualify for cashback with Shopback or Cashrewards. They are likely to fall under Home Improvement or Tools.

  • +1

Good price for the Wera keys but I'll stick with my PB Swiss keys, been using the same set last 7yrs without issue and they get used at work everyday.
Also I believe Wera class hex keys as consumables so the warranty isn't great on them compared to other brands.

BTW that video compares not only a much cheaper quality but also shorter hex key to the Wera.
Wonder why he didn't use a similar quality and length key for the comparison?
Everyone knows a crap quality Hex key will round out the head.

    • Wasnt aware of the Wera warranty. I have a set of the PB Swiss short hex keys from almost 10 years ago.
I gave them up as they started to surface corrode and eat into the surface. Used them on MTB pack / trips so wasnt exactly taken care of…my fault I guess sometimes packed away in wet /sweating packs :(

Also about the other test. I think he did tons of other tests as well. Not exactly full range like Project farm but here is one against top of the range Bonhus set.

      https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eRZjNYGHeRQ&t=454s

      • Yep keeping them in moisture wouldn't help.
Not sure on Bondhus being top range, there is a reason we get given them at work (cheap) and my sets always end up in the household kit ;-)

Though I'm gonna try a set of these Wera at this price see how they go.

      • +1

PB Swiss has a lifetime warranty, give it a try and you might be pleasantly surprised. I find these high quality European tool manufacturers are pretty good with their warranty, probably due to their high profit margin.

I have a set of Elora sockets and the ball head on the ratchet become stuck due to oil & dirt getting inside. Apparently Elora doesn't have any presence in Australia so I emailed them asking whether I can buy a replacement ball head and how much it costs. To my surprised they told me don't worry about it and they will send one to me completely free via DHL.

    • PB Swiss and Wera aren't exactly targeting the same crowd I think, more like comparing Hilti with Dewalt.
Personally I made the jump from Bondhus to PB Swiss directly without trying out Wera or other mid-range Allen keys and don't have any complaints about PB Swiss. I like getting the best tools for the job so I know that if there is any problem it is my OWN problem rather than my tools.

    $12.50 postage

anyone found anything worth adding to get it over the $49 minimum?

    • I tried buying both but still wanted to charge postage… so will give it a miss (I have both sets already, just figured at that price I’d get a second)

      • Yeah on closer inspection doesn't look like these are Amazon prime listings. Doesn't say anywhere that they qualify for free shipping over $49…

        OP should update title…

        • There is free postage is you purchase $49 or over. I purchased both items and got free postage.
          Items:$77.98
          Delivery: $0.00
          Total before GST: $77.98
          GST: $7.79
          Total: $85.77
          Order total $85.77

    • $15.50 postage to WA

    • You could add some stationery. Bic or Parker pens?

    • Probably the most important question on this post so far….! + I would like to know too!
Actually, on the other hand, not knowing will probably save me more money…

No holding function on hex set, be careful when buying. Wera does make them in HF. Overall, great brand. You can buy them cheaper but not a lot. For this you would need to buy in Germany, or on some specific online places which most of the Australians will not have access to (to tricky to monitor their free delivery).

  • +1

thanks OP, any recommendation for T-bar style hex?

    • +1

Adam Savage did a video about his favorite T-bar hex from Bondhus. youtu.be/8TJcFbu7gWE
The big ones are also good for thwacking things :)

    • +1

I've never owned T-bars myself as I mainly have portable compact tools. But these would be the products you are looking for.

      Wera TBar Hex Set
Has the signature Wera human form handles + holding function.

  • Love wera gear but these were good quality n cheaper

    https://www.supercheapauto.com.au/p/toolpro-toolpro-long-hex…

  • What the tx version for? Is it the imperial? Do we use that in Aus? Did do a quick google search didn’t come up with anything notable.

    • +2

      tx for torx

    • +1

tx is torx-European cars and a few newer japanese use it.

  • What’s the difference between the 2?

    • +1

one is hex, the other is torx (star shape)

  • Will Bunnings price match?

    • +2

Yes, I've price matched previously on another Wera kit and had no issues.
**Unless the manager is a Karen and picks out the Amazon Prime membership/$0 shipping

      • +1

I dont think it really requires manager approval as some of their team members like to say. All you need is to find a helpful guy. Dont waste your time arguing, if a particular guy doesnt wanna price match, just buy it at regular price and try again next time/at a different store. As long as it is not a very transient promo you should be fine.

    • +1

I just had Bunnings price match but it wasn't easy. One lady said they don't price match online only stores and another said that they had to include the shipping (~$12).
The best way (if you have prime) is to use your mobile to go to the website and add the item into your cart, that way it shows up as free shipping and you get the price beat :)

      I ended up paying ~$41

    • +1

Just bought both the metric hex and torx set from Bunnings Alexandria. Tool shop guy said he didn't think the price difference itself was an issue, but needed to get approval from a higher up on beating Amazon.
Made the call, got the OK, and explained that I was getting free shipping due to prime so they excluded the shipping cost too.

Really happy with this, a few of my old Bondhus hex set are pretty munted and this bargain stops me from going and spending too much on a set of PB Swiss.

    • I tried in Belconnen ACT. The guy said he wanted to "go nuts" on the request to price match an item being imported from the uk and wouldn't consider .com.au good enough.. I gave up, wasn't worth the effort.

  • Do we need to pay import duties/tax when we buy from Amazon UK/US?

    • +1

Yes, but its already auto calculated in the above amounts.

      • +1

        Oh right all good
        Thanks for the deal OP!

  • Does anyone know where these are made

    • There are made in the Czech republic. Their torque wrench line are made in the UK.

  • What is home via shopback? I usually just try find amazon.com on shopback and do it that way. Is that incorrect?

  • What are you guys doing with the these to wear them out?!. I've been thrashing on the ALDI set and I can't wear them out. They were $6.

    • Undoing thread locked / over torqued brake caliper bolts. Outdoor fittings were the bolts have corroded / expanded. Undoing wrapped hex heads with easy :)

Also these will pretty much last a lift time. Going to hand them down to my daughter/son of they don't lost them first. Lol

  • +1

Does anyone know what the difference is between this and the Wera 950? E.g. https://www.bunnings.com.au/wera-950-spkl-9-sm-n-hex-key-mul…

    • +1

Same keys but those don't have the inbox stainless steel coating. Not as rust / corrosion resistant. But if your not working in wet areas or remember to wipe down after use then shouldn't be an issue.

    • +1

These are stainless, the 950s are the "blacklaser" finish. Hard to find details on what that means, but some random bloke online reckons the underlying steel is stronger, but not stainless, then the blacklaser finish prevents corrosion.

      • +1

I think it's the other way around. The blacklaser seems to be just Wera version of tool black / powder coating you see on many tools.

I have observed that they both can be magnetised easily so tells me underneath they are the same "steel" vs full solid 430/304 grease stainless steel

  • I just bought some. Thanks OP. One thing I've been trying to work out for a while now; Can you use the magnetised tips on these near computers? In the past I had by accident, but wondered if I might do any damage?

    • +1

No worries, hope will enjoy using them.

These dont have the magnets and the Torx set holding function are via friction.

But you can magnetise them by running them again strong rare earth magnets via a tool like this

Wont affect your computer as they arent strong enough. Just dont bring them into datacentres / server rooms where they have EMI policies in place :)

  • Thanks OP, have been looking at these for a while, was looking at the Wiha, but I think Wera might be the go here, shame there's no imperial set with a similar holder, only a pouch version

    • I would swap you the pouch for the holder of you want 😉

      • Hahaha, now I'm thinking about the pouch might be better!

  • I have these and Bondhus, I'd recommend getting the Bondhus

    https://www.amazon.com.au/Bondhus-20199-Balldriver-L-Wrench-…

Wera screwdrivers and ratchets are excellent IMHO, spend your money on these instead

    • Why is that? What makes the Bondhus better?

      • Nothing they are both great. I like wera, but in this instance I don’t think they are worth the premium.

        • Do they have the gripping/holding function on the heads aswell?

          • @phor8: Not the ones listed above. But there is a set for $48 with ProHold function These are the Hex/Allen keys. I believe the Torx hold function are unique to Wera (their LaserTip Patent)

  • Is it worth paying for the extra over these?
    https://www.amazon.com.au/Wera-05022086001-L-key-Set-950-met…

  • What about this website I have come across.

    Anyone heard of this website

Don't know why they are suggesting that 6 has sold in the last hour for $255 each! (Must be a bad one like wish.com?)

    https://cocoonpower.com/products/wera-05022669001-l-key-set-…

    • Looks a bit fake that site. :(

  • +3

Just to help you guys out at Bunnings price beat. I've posted up the receipt below and in the title to help convince the person manning the Tool shop.

*Please be nice to them. They are only doing their job and if they refuse just let it go and try another.

    $41.90 Bunnings Receipt here

  • Bunnings seems to have taken the Wera range off the online store. :(

  • my sets have arrived, didn't realise the torx was a smaller kit

    https://ibb.co/x7SYLPB

  • OzBargained. Amazon AU has blocked items from Amazon UK.

If any one wants a set I still have an extra if you want to pick up in Sydney

  • Shame, I missed out.
