Phones with broken seals on the box usually indicate a phone intended for the Chinese market. The seller opens it to reflash it with a global rom. It is also common for the reflashed CN units to be lower spec hardware wise.

  • +1

Will shipping be 3 months like everything else from China…

    • Delivery is also slow when your order reaches Australia. The latest tracking shows one of my orders actually arrived in Sydney on 25 July, but I have no idea where it is at the moment

    • +1

No they use dpex/toll mostly for things over $200, in stock you'll get it in 2 weeks. If not it can take longer. Had to wait a month in the past for stock to arrive.

Their site always mentions in stock but I think the link hibernates when out so it won't show up on the store when you search it but you can find it if you Google it but most likely out of stock so be prepared to wait

    • Had an item recently, not a phone, seller processed it and it was out of the country airfreight in 3 days. From landing in Australia to delivery took another 2 weeks. :-(

  • +5

Never buy from tobydeals, 3 weeks ago bought a new xiaomi box- dead on arrival - n these people are not willing to sort the issue out so paypal dispute is on right now. Pls dnt waste ur money with these people unless you want to loose it

    • +1

Have been trying to contact PayPal for the last 3 months. They only offer email support at the moment which would be difficult if you want to refund I guess.

    • +1

      $270.60 incl gst.

  • +4

Just to provide some positive Toby's experience - I bought a phone and watch in the last 6 months and both were delivered within 3 weeks. No issues yet.

  • you could get it a tecobuy for $225

    • GST & delivery? Also check out tecobuy's reputation… :-(

        • +1

This Tacobuy seems like a complete rip-off of the TobyDeals site. Even the specifications are copy-pasted. Is this just the same company operating with yet another name?

          • @djoz: Lol yeah seems like it. Different address and phone number though hmm

          • @djoz: I think they both are a spin off from the old eGlobal site?

  • +4

I would be suspicious about the NFC quoted in the specs above.
The RN9 has two model numbers, one with NFC and one without. M2003J15SG has NFC, M2003J15SS has not.
    https://www.gsmarena.com/xiaomi_redmi_note_9-10192.php
As for finding out from Tobys what model they are selling… good luck! There is no mention of it on their specs list but Tobys have always been very slack in that area.

    • +3

M2003J15SG has NFC, M2003J15SS has not.

Ah great point. Why does Xiaomi even do things like this – as if the already confusing model names wasn't enough: Note 9, Note 9S, Note 9 Pro, Note 9 Pro Max. And they have Redmi 9 and Redmi 9 Prime as well.

I further went and checked the listing of this phone on Xiaomi Australia website, and you're right, their detailed specs does not mention NFC either!

The same headache with Mi phones for years. They have made no effort to sort it out.
I wonder how many people have got confused and ended up with the wrong phone?
Sellers make no effort to clarify it either. Even if you email them and ask what exact model number they are selling they will say they dont know or pick a random model number.
This is how shonky sellers get to sell CN phones as global versions.
I have seen some sellers specify that theirs is the SG version but they are usually more expensive. $20 ish?
If this one has it then it is a hot deal.

      • +1

global Note 9S = Indian "Note 9 Pro"
global Note 9 Pro = Indian "Note 9 Pro Max" with 32MP selfie

The non-Note Redmi 9's are quite lower spec'd

    • +1

Have you compared the specs on GSM Arena?

    • +3

Get the Redmi Note 9 pro with Snapdragon. Beautiful phone.

      • How much for?

        • On OzB…last deal. Around 320

          • @Logical: @xywolap said the price difference doesn't justify it (for most users, I guess).

            • +2

@wisdomtooth: I think it justifies it. Xywolap forgot to say so much more! Better and faster processor, more ram, much more snappier than this base model. Little bit larger screen too. NFC guaranteed, Faster/Turbo Charging etc. As the primary phone get the Pro. If a backup phone then this cheaper base model will be ok.

              • @Logical: RN9 doesn't do QC3? Mine is a RN7, and does it.

              • +1

@Logical: The camera on the Pro is also better @ 64mp vs 48mp on the base RN9.
                It is an individual thing…
Do you need NFC, faster charging, more than 4/128 ram/storage, a faster processor, larger screen, be able to use Gcam or to try out other roms?
The difference in price for those things between the two phones is about 1/3 more for the pro.
On the other hand, if you can afford the extra for the Pro version go for it. You will not regret it that's for sure.

                • @Cheeper: I use Gcam on my base RN7. Is that limitation that came in later models?

      • +1

One on the way, ordered from tobydeals last week. Did consider the Mi 10 Lite too for the better AMOLED screen but just couldn't stretch the budget to the 128gb model, 64gb with no card slot is pretty restrictive these days. And that's really starting to reach my upper limit of what I'd be willing to spend on a phone with effectively no warranty and PayPal as the only avenue of getting my cash back…. At least the screen on the Note 9 Pro is a bit bigger as a sweetener.

    • And now $185

      • Goods and services Tax:
        AU$18.42
        Grand Total:AU$202.64

    Got one. Thanks

    • +4

First one to say after 1,643 clicks on the deal URL.
      Keep us posted. Cheers.

      • Got one too, cheers.

    • Also got one but still haven't received a email or a tracking number yet ordered on sunday.

  • +3

Bought redmi note 9s(with SG720g) from Tobysdeal 2 months ago, $270 delivered. The phone is great, but the wait was terrible. Took over 6 weeks from placing the order to getting the phone. Customer service is non-existent. I personally won't shop at Tobysdeal ever again.

    • This is what worries me about buying from this site. Price is tempting but. Think of ordering one as a backup phone, but don't want to wait for months with no support.

    • Which city you in… Covid restrictions? Took around 7 days to Bris.

      • +1

Maybe partially because of the lockdown. They dispatched my phone 3 weeks after my placing the order, after I sent 2 emails to them, with the second one being a refund request. After that it sits in the transit in Australia for another 3 weeks. Emailed their courier of choice for updates and ended up with no replies. Emailed Tobysdeal for help and they referred me to their call center in HK. I gave up and raised a formal refund request to PayPal, and then I got my phone in the next a few days. That's my experience of shopping at Tobysdeal. The price is good and the phone is great. Not complaining not giving them bad reviews whatsoever, but I will definitely avoid them in future to save the hassle.

        • Sigh. Several people have said the same thing 'will avoid in future', while first-time buyers are still tempted by the price. Hope the buyers get it on time. I'd say a 1-month delivery timeline is what each should expect. TobyDeals are certainly not scamsters, just that they are terribly slow going by Australian expectations. They might not be realizing they're causing quite some furore, as maybe for them these are the 'normal timelines' for International Shipping.

          • @djoz: Exactly. If one can expect the delay and lack of customer services, then they're fine. At least I got my phone at a pretty nice price point.

            • @MJi: Price Point is the only reason why people are even considering buying from them. And price point is the no. 1 on everyone's list at OzB :-)

  • Can someone tell me which is better in these two stats. I don't understand how to tell which would be better. Do I want a higher f/ rate or lower? TIA

    48 MP, f/1.8, 26mm (wide), 1/2.0", 0.8µm, PDAF
    48 MP, f/1.7, 26mm (wide), 1/2.0", 0.8µm, PDAF

    • +4

Lower = wider = lets more light in.

  • Thanks OP. Pulled the trigger. Will try report how long it takes to arrive.

Nothing wrong with my 2018 Xiaomi but it doesn't support the new 7-Eleven app and the "Find in page" function stopped working on Chrome. 2nd issue might fix itself with factory reset.

    • Which one do you have currently?

  • What accessories are people getting for this phone?

  • +3

I had a good experience with Toby's Deals, recently got the interstellar grey 6gb/128 Redmi Note Pro from the previous deal. Its was about 3 weeks from order to delivery, the biggest delay was Toll Ipec in Sydney (they held the package for a week before transferring to regional NSW).

Communication from Tobys Deals was slow (A few days to get a response each time) but they were always honest and helpful.
Product is legit, came with a US charger and AU adapter.

All up - Ordered Sat 18 Jul - Delivered Mon 10 Aug Regional NSW.

I hope you all have a similar experience - I'm pretty happy considering everything that's going on in the world at the moment. Cant complain.

  • +1

I bought the same phone for a similar price a couple of months ago from Toby Deals. This is my third phone purchase from Toby Deals.
It was delivered within the time frame promised.
Great specs for a phone just over $200. I'm very happy with it.

    • That's great. Could you please confirm if VoLTE works, if you are using an operator that offers it? Eg: Boost Mobile Prepaid.

    • Are you able to confirm if it has NFC please? Thanks.

      • +3

        Sorry, it doesn't.

    • The model number off the box will tell all.
M2003J15SG should have NFC, the 15SS not.

      • Good thing. @davebern may confirm this. Please let us know what is the model number on the box. Cheers.

        • Model number also shows in the settings.

      • +2

I have the 15SS model, so it doesn't come with NFC.

  • +1

Tobydeals is fine and like many other grey import sellers just expect 1-2 month wait. Paypal have you covered if shit hits the roof. If you prefer faster delivery/customer service then go find an equivalent pricier local product and buy local for warranty purposes.

  • Got one … Thanks OP.

Hey guys, relatively new to this mobile phone thingy. (I know, I know …) Got an Alcatel Pixi 3 when they came out and still going strong, sort of. Only ever used for calls and txt's. Just needed/wanted something new and maybe learn a thing or two about what they can do these days - what people use them for besides phones.

But to start off I'll need to protect this one when it arrives. So wondering what to get and where to get it. Anyone help with this? Appreciated …

  • Anyone able to confirm the NFC status? I need this. thanks

  • +2

Tempted, but seems mixed reviews here on seller…. That said Banggood seems to have 2 models of same phone list NFC @ $240.56 & non NFC @ $226.32. Site has $20 off first time buyer & 9% on cashrewards…. seems better deal & better seller???

    https://au.banggood.com/Xiaomi-Redmi-Note-9-Global-Version-6…

    • Wierd, but the Banggood site specification doesnt show Band 28.Pretty sure its the same phone, so either Band 28 is there, or not. But how to confirm?

      Banggood:
      FDD-LTE B1/B2/B3/B4/B5/B7/B8/B20

Like I mentioned earlier, I checked the Specifications on Xiaomi Australia offical Store and it does mention Band 28.

      Xiaomi Australia:
      FDD-LTE B1/B2/B3/B4/B5/B7/B8/B20/B28
      https://www.mi-store.com.au/xiaomi-redmi-note-9

      • +2

The Mi site is the one to believe as sellers are slack in listing specs. Both global versions of the RN9 base model have B28.
        https://www.mi.com/global/redmi-note-9/specs/
The CN version would not have B28 but BG clearly say this is the Global version.

    • Cashrewards is only 5% on phones from BG, otherwise a good alternate source.

      • +1

Ok, cheers was unaware of that… thought 9.

        • They split it up into two groups, one is 9% and the other 5%. Sadly phones are in the %5 one.

  • Waiting for the Mi10 ultra looks promising

  • +1

So after asking a few questions and reading everyone's comments, looks like I've changed my mind on the Redmi Note 8Pro, so now I'll be waiting on a deal for the Redmi Note 9Pro. Please tell me that's a good choice!!! :D

    • It is the way I would go.
Side by side comparison of the 2 phones here…
      https://www.gsmarena.com/compare.php3?idPhone1=9812&idPhone2…

      • +1

Yes that's a pretty good comparison! I'm sold on the RN 9pro. Thanks for your input, much appreciated! Now what's a good price for the RN 9Pro???

        • +1

Tobys again win that race. The CART3 code may work on it as well. See imamty's post below.

  • Soooooo it seems nobody knows for certain if this has NFC. I need a phone for my dad that had NFC for contactless payments as his current Redmi 7 doesn't.

If anybody can confirm would be great

  • Sorry, just saw that @davebern has confirmed no nfc

    • +1

Yes, Deal Description has been updated as well.

  • RN9 Pro is also picking up the discount code .. I'm thinking of pulling the trigger for 6gb/128 for AU$327.86 .. not sure if it's a deal.. got NFC as well..

    • Compared to other offers from sellers it is a hot deal!!

    • +1

IF you are a First Time TobyDeals user, you would get $10 off a >$300 purchase. Also, dont forget the 1.5% Cashback by Shopback or 1.4% Cashback by CashRewards.

      • @djoz You can only use one coupon code. CART3 or TOBY10.

        • +1

Ah gotcha. CART3 is giving more discount than TOBY10. Cheers.

Edit: Its the opposite if clubbed with Shopback - see my comment below.

      • Also, cashback is ineligible if coupon is used. At least it didn't work for when I bought a phone with WELCOME10 last year - cashback was denied.

        • +1

Cashback is eligible if the Coupon Code is listed on Shopback. For example:TOBY10 is listed as a coupon on Shopback too.

          So you would get $10 off ($338 - $10 = $328)
          And a further 1.5% Cashback (1.5% of $328) = $4.92.

          So total benefit = $10 + $4.92 = $14.92
Brings down phone price to: $323.08

Thus, TOBY10 is givng more discount effectively.

        • So no cash back with Cash Rewards if you use either coupon code (Toby10 or Cart3)??

          • @sabby32: Not a CashRewards user yet, so cant comment. You may find it in their App/Site though.

    • +2

I've done quite a bit of searching and I'm biting the bullet and picking up the RN9 Pro from Toby Deals, best price around.

      • It certainly is. The phone's fab!
This deal I posted here for Redmi Note 9 was specifically for the cheapest "128GB" phone from a good brand.
Albeit Forgoing: Snapdragon Processor and NFC. The Price Point $228.92 for Redmi Note 9 is too tempting, but I must admit that the comments here have made me gulp my tempt – for the time being.

$99 more and you get the Pro with: 6GB, NFC, Snapdragon, better camera.
Am still a bit confused. The Mediatek v/s Snapdragon is the more pressing point.

        • +1

djoz… go the Pro, you wont regret it.

          • +3

            @Cheeper: I went the pro. $327 - $15 through CR @ banggood = $312. upgrading from MI A2 I dropped in river on Sunday.
