  • Is a Phillips hue bridge required for this to operate ?
If yes how much is the bridge ?

    • +1
      • Can 8 of these be controlled all together and also in groups of 2 or 4, or as singles ?

    • From time to time Amazon has good deals on starter kits. Then there's usually a heap going for around $40 on eBay and Gumtree because buy the kits for the bulbs.

Unfortunately, the cheapest I can see in Sydney at the moment is $55, though if you're patient you might get one as cheap as the low $30s.

      • +1

please share us a link for the $55 bridge, really need one urgently, as even the burnings have sold out of theirs.

        • Wow, the prices at the moment are amazing. I sold two for $35@ just a few months ago - now wishing I hadn't! I'm using a Pi and a conbee to run my home zigbee network.

I checked Gumtree again and the $55 Hue hub is in Wagga, sorry. https://www.cashconverters.com.au/shop/music-tv-video/home-t…

        • I have a spare unused one that I'd swap for some of these lights ;)

  • Considering it is Zigbee, I wonder if that would work with Xiaomi Mi Smart Gateway v3? This gateway is Zigbee 3.0

    • Yes, it works with Xiaomi Gateway.

    • Are the gateways still only on mainland China? Tried to change mine to au but still wont find it

      • Not sure about that, their app has an English version but the powerplug of the gateway is a Chinese 2pin plug ( I I ).

    • As far as I'm aware, most Zigbee devices don't play nice with the Xiaomi protocol. I'd do a bit more research before purchasing.

      • I thought all Zigbee is the same? Zigbee being the protocol.

        • +1

Zigbee is the wireless protocol used, but most HomeAutomation systems use a standardised format to pass the data around called ZHA, which the Xioami Gateway does not. For instance, you can't use a Hue Remote to control a Yeelight, and you can't use a Xioami Gateway to control a Hue bulb.

  • These are exactly what I want. But I’m worried that they won’t be a good fit because I have a switch dimmer that controls all 4 down light outlets. Is this an issue, even if I keep the dimmer at full 24/7?

    • +1

I have groups of 4 downlights attached to one switch (not dimmer - just on/off) and they work fine. Leave the switch on and manage via Hue switches / voice / app

  • +1

Are these downlights IC-4 rated? I also note that it comes with an external LED driver, is the LED driver IC-4 rated too?

    • Yes the downlight and driver are both IC-4 rated.

  • Have been looking at the Hue Garneas as I want to stay in the Hue ecosystem but have been worried about them only being 600 lumens. These state 800-900 which seems a little broad? Any one got any real world experience?

    • +1

I use these downlight in the kitchen in a combination of Philips Hue RGB light bulbs.

It offers RGB colours which Hue Garnea downlight does not have.

The only downside is that I could not use Siri from my phone to control them as I have to yell to my Google Home Max Speaker in the living room instead.

I mean they are brighter than the 10W COB downlight I use to have in the kitchen, I'm happy with the brightness in white colours.

  • Does this come with an AU plug?
Update: yes it does, as per the ad

  • How do I get the free shipping? Or is that pickup?

    • The free shipping is automatically applied once the coupon code is entered at the checkout page

      • +1

I'm trying to check out but it's still adding the shipping cost, is it because I have another item in my cart?

        • yes, that might be the case, but the shipping will be discounted by the system for this downlight, the shipping quote you get is only for the other item in the cart.

  • Caution: This will only work with certain Alexa devices that have Zigbee built-in. Not all Alexa devices do.(I think currently only the Echo Show and Echo Plus have Zigbee built in)

    • Right, the Alexa hub needs to have a Zigbee protocol to find these downlights

  • If these has HomeKit I’d be all over it.

    • +1

Rep says it works with Xiaomi Gateway. So Xiaomi Gateway supports Homekit then here you go.

      • Nah, it does not work with Homekit, even by using the Philips hue bridge.

        • +2

Then it doesn't work with Xiaomi Gateway. I wonder why you have responded my question about Xiaomi Gateway as "it works with Xiaomi Gateway"??

        • "Yes, it works with Xiaomi Gateway.".. Can you double confirm?..

          • @chutibuti: Xiaomi gateway doesn’t mean HomeKit.
Sound a like it will comm3ct to the hub, but then not get exposed to HomeKit. Control would likely be in the Xiaomi app

            • @Soldier: I have Xiaomi gateway and Aqara version of it. Any device connected to these hubs can be seen and controlled in Homekit.

  • OP, may I buy one to try it out and then buy the rest? When does this expire? I just have a worry about my dimmer situation

  • I plumped for 4 but there was no free shipping….
Also, there was no option to pay by card!?

    • There is free shipping, once the code is applied. Just select a method and they have a greater discount on it and at checkout it will be free shipping and they have enough option, use card through PayPal, then even have bpay lol

    • the shipping is discounted by the system automatically.

You can choose Paypal payment and use a credit card to clear the payment from the link provided by PayPal.

      • -1

It didn’t get discounted for me.
I went for afterpay. I don’t like PayPal at all.
Why wouldn’t you just offer card payment?

  • Any ones used this vs LIFX .

  • Do these fade in when turning on? I recently bought some similar ones from Amazon and they don't fade in when turning on through Google Home.

  • +1

I have used NUE products in the past. The products are generally good quality (atleast it did not break and worked for couple of years at some capacity) but the support is horrible. I had bought a dimmer switch which did not work perfectly as a dimmer but just as a switch as it caused the Downlights to flicker. I was told that my downlights used leading driver hence not fully compatible. I did not pursue changing it or the driver. I wanted to do full house lighting automation with NUE as it felt a bit cheaper.

Later, when I wanted to change the email associated with the account. The supported app was not very intuitive and did not work. So reached out to get support but it’s almost non-existant. The seller did not respond well. Resetted the bridge but In vain. The bridge got stuck with old username. It’s now unusable as I can’t login or change the password.
Hopefully this seller is more Responsive/responsible but I am not really happy with NUE product support. You are pretty much on your own.

  • +2

I have had a pretty good experience with Nue and the seller Kevin. Seems to respond reasonably quickly to emails but tbh not needed to call for support.
I have tried the ZigBee switches 2, 3, and 4 gang, all fine.
Dimmers do need to be compatible with your LEDs.
If you haven't heard of Hubitat,
You should check them out as a hub. Fully local control, brilliant little system!
    Very flexible

    • I second that. Kevin from NUE responded to my question about 2gang NUE switch device handler on a Sunday night and continued corresponding until past mid night to get it fixed.really impressed but @virtuallife is correct about flickering issue when dimmed low .I had the same issue (which is generally due to off-peak ripple signal) on my NUE dimmer and some 3A lightning downlights (which interestingly the seller in this post lectroy combines together and sells as bundle but I was sent another LED downright from NUE which is tested to be compatible and immune (not totally but much better) .just need to find your matching downlight.

This is the first time i hear about Hubitat thanks for introducing it I will check it out however I am very happy with my Samsung smarthhings functionality and reception .smartthings has a large community which is kind of important for a fairly young ecosystem like smart home and IOT.

  • does it work with home wifi and google home?

  • I have a hue bridge but I'm wondering if it's worth getting 8 zigbee rgbw downlight which would be considerably more expensive vs the normal $20 ambiance wifi downlight from aldi.
I reckon the colour change gimmick will wear off quickly, similar to my rgbw garden lights which I keep on white colour.

  • +1

I put 40odd of these in November last year. All living areas, kitchen, dining, hallway, entries, eaves. Great lights, no problems, plenty bright enough. Connected to hue bridge. Use the colour change a fair bit, watching the footy etc, bit of fun for the kids.

  • They are coming up as backorder, are there still any in stock Lectory?

    • Yes, the backorders will be dispatched next Monday.

  • Any indication it will work with Cygnett's hub?

    • Nop it does not work with Cygnett's hub.
