    "Valid from 25th December 2011"

    That is a PITA. Can't be used for 6 weeks… :(

Don't really understand why either… I always thought Kogan was an online only store? Also, surely they'd make a bit more of it back with pre christmas margins rather than competing with everybody else's post christmas specials?

    • +1

Probably because they want people to use them as Christmas gifts, presumably to spread the word about Kogan (intentionally or not) to friends & family?

I don't know, that's the best reason I could think of.

    • So he can up the prices 26th?

  • So, you can't use the vouchers yet?

Would be great to get an iPad with a couple of them.

  • from 25/12? then you have holidays etc…..wont be able to get your product after the new year…..

  • +5

Kind of tells me they are going to be bankrupt soon!

    • +7

      You wish Gerry :p

    • Valid from December 25th 2011

Good deal, but the above point is a downer

Still, it could be quite a good deal for the patient, especially if prices remain competitive.

  • Could be good to purchase a Nexus Prime in the new year once the price settles

  • Using 2x $300 vouchers, you could get a 3G Xoom for only $450 which looks very appealing… although as everyone's said, what a pain to wait so long!

    • seems you can only use one voucher per transaction

      • I believe the "1 voucher per transaction" condition was recently added. I also don't remember the voucher expiry date being there when the deal was originally posted. This is very dodgey of them, bordering on being illegal as they should not be allow to change the conditions after the you have purchase it. Then again, Borders tacked on new conditions to their gift cards/store credit after announcing their bankruptcy.

  • +1

Considering the Samsung Galaxy S II is $499 delivered.
    A $200 voucher, plus a $300 voucher is $385… VERY CHEAP!

Kinda hoping the Galaxy Nexus comes down to ~ $600 early next year.
    That's $450 worth of vouchers!

    • +1

Depending on what prices will they be sold for after 25 December 11. Makes you wonder whether this is some sort of entrapment. Raise all latest tech prices up and drop or keep regular prices on existing old to mid range stock. The Samsung galaxy 2 deal might be the small fish that reels in the bigger fish.

      • +1 to comment was thinking the same, everyone whos purchased these vouchers expect a price increase when vouchers a valid

  • +2

So literally I can get an ipad 16 wifi for $225+160= $385 instead of $479?

    • +3

You cant because it is very likely that all Samsung and Apple products will no longer be sold by kogan then (in my opinion at least).

Kogan is smart though, this is probably a cheaper alternative for them than taking out a short-term bank loan

      • Huh, smart thinkin'. Hopefully it's this, I wouldn't mind to not have some money for a while, and still get a very good TV price later.

        • Well i'd keep an eye out on their current prices, for all you know come 25/12 and prices across the site increase by 30%

    • +1

if they sell the iPad AFTER 25th December 2011

    • Can someone call Kogan to ensure they ARE selling ipads after 25/12/11?

      • +7

lol.. can someone call Kogan to make sure they still exist after 25/12/11?

        • -7

Apple took over Kogan in their last dispute.
They gave Kogan $300,000 cash, staff will be employed at Apple's facilities but Kogan must cease doing any business by the 25/12/11!

      • +4

        you dont have a phone?

  • +11

Eeeks of a cash flow problem.

  • do they have a price beat guarantee on their non-kogan products?
they might just jack up the prices of those products

  • I think because that Group Buy deal has $200 vouchers valid until 25 Dec. They don't wan't ppl double dipping

    • For the $200 vouchers from Spreet, can't really buy the "GOOD" stuffs. no iPads, iPhones, DSLRs, and lots LivePrice items then before now…Duno how can I use mine vouchers now…:(

  • Makes sense to me. It'd be a great Christmas present for tech-heads right? OZbargainers give gifts right?

    • +4

to themselves first, then others get the leftovers :p

  • +3

Sounds too good… Remember that you can't use it for nearly 2 months.
You can't even complain to Paypal or you institution if this is fraud after 2 months.

    • That is a good point. 45 days is the time frame for those paypal/CC claims.

  • Do these come by registered post? No way am I going to buy these if they don't. I just called Kogan but the person that could answer that question wasn't there.

  • +4

Sorry OP but this web site seems dodgy to me:

"Liability - 1 We will not be liable for any loss of income, loss of profits, loss of contracts, loss of data or for any indirect or consequential loss or damage of any kind howsoever arising and whether caused by tort (including negligence), breach of contract or otherwise."

So they want my money "now" but I will receive my product in around 2 months?
Who is so stupid to do so?

    • Can they even enforce that? Not liable for losses arising from breach of contract… doesn't that negate the whole purpose of a contract?

      (NB: Not a lawyer)

      • Indeed it does!

      • +1

I believe that is stating that any following losses are not liable to Kogan.

Eg a builder promises tv installed by novemeber, Kogan promises tv by octtober. Tv comes in December causing builder to fail in his obligation to customer. Kogan is claiming not to be liable for that loss.

        Nb, also not a lawyer

        • Kogan also states that "we" means you the customer and/or Kogan itself.
This is a kind of contract copied from somewhere and just pasted in their web site in the intend to cover themselves from "anything".

    • Pay now, Buy later is Kogan's response, to the hardly normal's Buy now, Pay later.

Now is this like the Spreets vouchers where the T&C says
"Voucher must be redeemed in the one purchase (irrespective of whether the item purchased has a value of less than $200)"…ie if you use a $200 voucher to purchase a $50 product, you forfeit the remaining $150.

  • Umm can you use multiple gift cards on the same purchase?

    • Chatted with sales rep. They said yes (multiple gift cards on the same purchase). However they can't guarantee there will be Ipad2 after 25/12 (with the special price).

  • +1

Any idea when the discounted price stops? Since you are locking up your money I'd rather buy them as late as I can.

  • Don't like the wait till post Christmas to use. I was interested up until I saw the Valid from date.

I am in the market for a tv, and likely would have went for this, however the rules remove it as an option for me.

Still for those that want to shop there post xmas it is a savings, not sure how it will compare with the stocktake sales that week?

  • sounds dodgy to me….would love for it to be legit. I will sit on this one for a bit I think and see how it plays out.

  • +1

Sounds really dodgy, probably after all these sale they will jack up the price and then those who bought the card will need to pay higher price (reeks bait and switch)

  • I don't know which way to swing, Kogan are usually really price competitive. And 25% off is a huge discount, but also significant risk. Don't know what to do.

  • IMO, it's safer to put your money in shares than this offer :S

  • Chatted with sales rep. Gift cards deal is while stock (card) lasts. So be quick if you want to grab these.

    • +5

While stock lasts (ie. until loan amount is reached!)

    • "So be quick if you want to grab these" SURE!

  • i too dont believe their price will remain competitive when the time come, and it is possible that they'll impose some condition when purchasing with gift card (they messed with voucher before, gift card next?)

  • hm, on second thought i'd be quite weary of this, patient or not.

If yesterday's galaxy nexus deal is an indication of how competitive they'll be for new products (i.e. no very) then im not overly confident that this is a good deal.

There are too many uncertainties with this deal and only 1 certainty, that is you have to pay upfront.

After the Xmas, kogan could move their prices up to compensate for this discount, a dog move -yes but there won't be any reason they can't do it. Or they may stop selling first party (samsung/apple) products alltogether. Worst case scenario they shut up shop and don't sell anything, though the likelihood of that it comparatively low.

I'm going to say no to this one, there's no certainty that this is a bargain, and therefore imo it's not a bargain.

    • you pointed out a few good points, i'm kinda sitting on the edge at the moment , looking the DSLR cameras i can really make good use of it, however if they decide to change the conditions then it will be really useless to me, but on the other hand if they do jack up the price even for around xmas or for a period of time , it will be silly for them to prolong the higher price till june of next year, so at some price point they must be lower or competative or else they wont have the price advantage, hence not point selling cameras on line. so its still kinda gamble, but then again xmas will be lots of sales around and so price around will be even more comeptative or lower, so if you were only saving $25 or $50 then its not really worth it

  • +1

Surely Kogan would be losing money if they allow us to purchase non-Kogan branded products with gift cards, unless they jack up prices. The Canon 60D i've been looking at is very closely priced with DWI already.

I'll probably sit out of this, sounds too good to be true.

    Hope I don't miss out on a bargain of a lifetime :P

  • The only thing is in the fine print it's fairly clear it's on everything they offer.

It's not 100% clear if you can use multiple vouchers for the same transaction - nothing saying yes, nothing saying no.

I'm tempted to buy some vouchers. If you pay for them on a credit card then the risks are fairly low.

    • +1

"If you pay for them on a credit card then the risks are fairly low."

How do you come to this conclusion?
If they've delivered their gift card on time and in full, then thats their obligations met as far as your CC company is concerned.
What they decide to do with their pricing and/or stock availiability won't faze the credit card company one bit.

I still think there's potential here for this to be a very good deal, but without full disclosure it's still a gamble.

  • After looking at this deal, i wasn't sure it can be used for all the product. So i was chatting with one of sales rep, initially he said can't use other than KOGAN product and after few more questions he said it can be used because it's Xmas Gift card. I was confused and ask him to send me in writting that it can be use with other product but haven't heard anything since 10.00 AM.

Having said that i did buy couple of items in past few year and they are pretty good in service but not sure i would buy this.

    so "NO" for me.

  • Another thought, and probably the one with the most legs.

Perhaps kogan are planning are large sale in the lead up to xmas. Some sort of advent calandar type thing, with prices cheaper than we've ever seen so far.

The validity date on these cards will ensure that customers don't get to double dip their savings, assuming the sale ends at xmas, and return to their pre-xmas prices (i.e. today's prices)

  • I will be taking a closer look at this when i get home but what I'm thinking (hoping) is:
If they were going bust and this was a cash grab to help them they would surely
be facing gaol time. So I'm thinking that's not the case.
Could It just be a sales ploy? They are effectively banking alot of money before purchasing any stock. Would be great for their stock turns. They may have better margins than we all think?
Are they banking on the Aus dollar increasing? This would give them some room to move.
I don't know much about Kogan but have seen them pushing on ACC programs so if it was a dishonest deal they would certainly be risking the reputation they have been working on. Hope they don't sell out before tomorrow night as that's when I will make my decision.

    • You're reasoning is off. I've seen the cash grab thing done before.

      Nindeals/Nintek.
They launched a "Watercooling group purchase", kept the money, lied about the orders merely being delayed, then went bust. It later appeared they'd been cooking the books & not paying creditors for a long time.

The trick to it is, if Kogan doesn't have enough personal assets to be worth suing, then nobody will sue. If he's smart, he probably has $0 of assets because everything is in someone else's name. Owners of nintek never had a case filed against them for this reason.

  • You all made good points. My decision in this matter is "NO, I will not buy this thing" :)
It seems dodgy when you can't use the gift card for two months.

  • its a shame this seems so shady, i need a small tv later in the year

    • wait for Aldi

  • Just took the plunge… check this space in 2 months to see how it turned out :P

  • All I will say after reading the posts and seeing people's opinions etc is that Kogan definitely has an outstanding and trustworthy reputation if people are scared of getting gift cards at such discounted rates from them… ;)

  • I've decided not to bite. Last time I saw shenanigans like this the company went bankrupt, taking $400 of my money with it.

  • Just had a look at the Kogan site and it says in the conditions of these gift cards that you can only use one Gift card per transaction.
This tightens up the savings quite a bit now doesnt it.

  • While this does look like a good deal Kogan has a reputation of changing and rigging the system to remove any advantage you would have from these types of deals.
e.g. the last time I think they quickly marked a whole bunch of stuff as ‘Special’ which then meant the coupon code would not work.

Maybe they will redeem themselves this time but I am not taking that chance.

    • I guess coupon code is different from using the gift cards?
You have paid $ for the gift cards so they must honour that I suppose.

  • Absolutely disgusting that they add new conditions after it's already available.

People asked Kogan reps and they responded saying you can use as many as you want per transaction.

    • yeah just as we all expected

    • I emailed them and they said they would honour that for people who purchased before that condition was added. It's left a sour taste in my mouth though and I'm wondering what they'll pull next …

    • HI, the fine print says:
Only 1 voucher valid per transaction

  • -1

I did a price comparison for some popular products. The price has been raised around $50 so far. shame on you!

  • Bought "Canon EOS 550D DSLR Camera Lens Kit with EF-S 18-55mm f3.5-5.6 IS Lens" from Kogan 2 weeks ago for $639.00. Noticed on the site its now $659. This could also be the fact that the aussie dollar has dropped in the last two weeks as well.

I would still buy through Kogan as the price was good and the fact that I have a local contact for warranty ( even if the camera has to go O/S to be repaired ).
