EDIT 2020-08-22 22:00::: SP31A v2.0 is out of AU stock - marking deal as expired

EDIT 2020-08-11 20:47::: SP40 is out of AU stock.

As discussed in the deal I posted last week, I've now got codes for the SP40 and SP31 v2.0 lights at AmazonAU, with local stock. Apologies for those of you hanging out for the C8F and SD05 codes; I'm told that I'll have them later in the week (drip fed, I guess).

Disclaimer copy/pasted from previous post:

Disclaimer: I’m not technically affiliated with Sofirn, but have had dealings with them in the past by reviewing some of their lights - they have passed this information on to me to send to anywhere/one that I think it might be useful to; my understanding is that the codes expire at the end of the month. I've hit the "Associated" button anyway, just to be as open as I can.

The codes below give 15% off the advertised price on the following lights:

SP40 Headlamp ($39.94): 7P9QS5QO
SP31 v2.0 ($39.09): UXLERKYF

Some details/rambling, because why not:

First things first, and I should have posted this last time - if you're going to leave the light for a while between use, either take the cell out, or unscrew the tailcap 1/2 turn or so, to do a "mechanical lockout" - this just breaks the electrical circuit so there's no parasitic drain outside of what the battery would do by itself sitting on a shelf.

The SP40 comes with an 18650 battery, and you can charge it via a MicroUSB port in the head of the light, with the tailcap tightened. You also get an 18350 tube for if you want a little shorty, but you'd need to buy that cell separately. The headband is a little snug on my head even at full extension, but I've got a massive fat head.

The SP31 v2.0 comes with what's in the picture - light, battery, charger.

Reviews are here: SP40 and SP31 v2.0. I trust zeroair's reviews more than I trust my own, sometimes.

This is part of Father's Day deals for 2020.

  • I had a BLF A6 which died after a year of minimal/moderate use. Is the build quality on these superior (since the price is higher?)

Also, do you sell the torches alone? I already have ample 18650 and charger.

    • Not good to hear about the A6 mate; mine still goes strong but admittedly, I don't use it much.

I've got… thinks 5? 6? Sofirn lights now, and they've taken a bit of a beating, but probably not as harsh on them as other people may be, either intentionally or unintentionally.

I think the torches alone are available on sofirnlight.com, but that's with shipping from China - the AmazonAU stock are all kits, I believe. As said in my disclaimer though, I don't work for Sofirn, just passing on info but trying to be as open about my relationship to them as possible :)

    • That's a bit of bad luck. I've got 3 x BLF A6 and 2 x Astrolux S1 18350, 2 years old, moderate use, still going strong.

  • +3

thanks, bought one, might use it in the bedroom

    • +1

Haha. You need a little help? I can hold the torch for you?

      • +2

        We don’t want super corona.

    • +4

      It's flashlight not a fleshlight

  • Still waiting for the SP36 dogfart version ;)

    • +1

Good old dogfarts. I asked about that and got:

"About SP36Anduril, we are checking with amazon.au how many quantities we could ship and will keep you posted on models when the next batch is ready to be shipped.". So looks like there'll be more at some stage, just a bit of a delay :(

      • That's good to hear, and thank you for your prompt reply! Have read that word from your review, and that's really high quality article of a review👍

        • Thanks, very much appreciate it! I've got a review I should have finished in the next few days (Nitecore P20v2), and another… four? in the works, provided they all arrive:

          Brinyte T18 Artemis
          Lumintop X9L
          Nightwatch NSX4
          Imalent MS06

          :D

          • @oweban: Look at this list! You know, just 8 years ago, I couldn't even imagine there're a bunch of people who are torch/flashlight fans. What the heck of fun with it? And now I'm one of them, and have spent hundreds of dollars on torch/flashlight :P Happy working with your homework! xD

@WayneOZ: I fell into the community about 18 months ago, and uh… it's been a wild ride.

That's not including the two in my pocket, four headlamps, two or three lights on the "fix/modify" pile, and the P10v2 that I recently finished reviewing. Can't beat the feeling of seeing someone bust out a cheapy and then be able to go "I got this".

              • @oweban: Jesus christ mate, what a box. Well, it's good to know you have a passion in the items you're promoting.

Would you be willing to throw me a bone of advice as to whether this SP40 is a reasonable fit for me?

I've been looking for a head torch that I can use for camping - primarily tent setup and general 'looking around the camp', not likely to be used for long hikes or long distance illumination.

From what I can see, the SP40 seems to be 'more powerful than I need', and a little more 'throwy' (?) than I need - I likely want a broader, less powerful beam.

Would you have a recommendation as to a model that might be a better fit for me?

                • @runean: I've actually made my SP40 quite floody - you can unscrew the bezel with circlip pliers (gently!), take the first gasket out, pop the glass out, and then what I did was put some dc-fix over the lens, which really smooths the beam out. To put it back together, just reverse that process. What I got is this:

                  https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/DC-FIX-216-0013-Transparent-Stat…

But if you can find it somewhere cheaper, that's even better. It's basically like contact that you'd stick on schoolbooks back in the day, but with a textured surface; any kind of stick-on frosted glass should do the trick. It lowers the output a little, but smooths it riiiiight out, plus there's always the three modes. I don't have before and after shots though, sorry :(

                  (I've also got a Zebralight H53fc, but that's up the $110-ish mark…)

  • Just ordered the SP31 v2.0 - many thanks OP :-)

  • +1

I don't need it but man I do want one LOL

    • That's pretty much what I say every time I end up buying a light. Then I stare at the smoking crater of my wallet… I've definitely made some questionable/expensive choices :/

  • quality review site too, OP.

    • Indeed, he's one of the primary players in the review scene. Mine are… less good, I think. More verbose, but not as pretty.

  • Upon checkout i see this:

Sold by: shenzhenshi jinbakeji youxiangongsi - qidong yang

    dafuk LOL

    • +1

Yeah, I'm assuming that's the registered name. Dunno. I keep forgetting to mention that to them, but unsure there's much they'll do about it.

    • -1

That's how you pronounce Sofirn in chinese.

  • Hey OP,
Is there any deal or discount for the Sofirn SP36 Rechargeable Flashlight Powerful 6000 Lumen Brightest Torch Cree 4 XPL2 LED Professional Outdoor Search Light Comes With 18650 Battery and USB C Cable

  • Thank you OP. Bought 2 of the headlamps.

  • Any chance for a deal for C01S?

  • +1

Ordered the sp36 from the previous deal on Friday and received it today, very fast postage. About the torch, the light are somewhat scatter and not focus cleanly. The instructions that comes with it is very limited and hard to follow. I am now stuck in the flash mode. Anyhow, removed the battery, reset it. Will google for instructions and how to use the torch. Btw how do you turn the green light off?

Good build and feel sturdy, IMO it does not worth ~$70 for its performance and light output quality.

    • Full instructions are here: Check anduril-ui-printable.png for an image, and anduril-manual.txt for a text-based manual.

Click seven times from off to cycle through the modes for the button light.

The emitters in the LH351D are more "flood" rather than a directed spotlight - a multi-emitter light won't put out a direct focused beam, as it has to converge all four emitters.

      • +1

Thank you for the links, had a quick look the txt instructions looks good, perfect for a beginner like myself.

Does the 7 click need to be fast, I can only get to 4 clicks. Managed to turn the Green light off, in the lock out mode, don’t really know how. Does the Green light have different brightness?

Is it possible to connect the sp36 to a computer to program the settings?

It is a great flood light and good coverage. Which one do you recommend to get for spotlight and long throw?

        • +1

Probably not super fast - just kinda repeated. I uploaded a video of the thermal calibration, so when I get to the point where I'm clicking 20 times, that's about the speed. Can probably be a bit slower, though.

So if you enter lockout mode (4 clicks), instead of 7 to change that light, it's 3. I know; confusing :) Unfortunately there's no direct programming via computer, but the code is open source, so if you're handy with coding and have the hardware (USBASP and SOIC8 clip) it's doable… but I recognise that that's taking it a bit far for a lot of people.

For a longer range thrower.. ooft, the sky's the limit. I've got a GT90, but also a bunch of other throwers. For a nice simple one, it's hard to go past something like a Convoy C8+ (my recommendation is 4 mode, 5000K). Fully press in button to turn on, half-press button to change modes upwards.

That said, it doesn't have onboard charging, and it'd be a good idea to get another battery for it so that you're not taking the three from the SP36 out of sync. I'll have to have a bit more of a think about what'd be a good simple thrower with onboard charging…

  • Thanks OP. Would love to see you work your magic on an LT1 deal when (if) they come into stock locally.

    • +1

      Noted :)

  • I bought the SD05 using the 15% code AHEMW2GF posted by rmmm7410 (thanks!)
on the last deal which arrived today.

Small & bright looks a nice dive light for the price, particularly for overseas trips. It seems to be the new version without the 3 minute timer. It ran for 3 minutes without dimming and the paper manual with it doesn't mention it.

The lanyard clip doesn't look like it'll survive saltwater but it is easy to replace. The big question is how much diving the magnetic ring will survive even with rinsing. I decided to be optimistic and bought a second one.

    • Ah nice - I wonder if that’s the code I’ll be getting :) I’ll aim to make a post on Thursday, don’t want to post too often and upset anyone.

If I did anything underwater other than sit in a bath on occasion, I’d consider it :p

  • Will they be restocking the sp40?

    • I believe so, but I'll ask.

  • Got my SP40. Nice light but wish it was more floody. Surprise that it came with battery and a short tube for cr123a. Very happy with it.

    • The short tube is for an 18350; I don’t think a CR123 would work in it (comparable in size to 16340).

To make it a bit more floody, I removed the bezel, popped the lens out, and put dc-fix over the “outside” side of the lens - it’s effectively frosted and textured “contact” like you’d put on school books.

Glad to hear you like it though :)

      • Will give it a try. May be cr123 with a spacer :).

        • I’m just concerned about the voltages; CR123 being 3.0v, which is towards where it would turn off with a Li-Ion battery. I don’t think it’d hurt anything to try, but I don’t expect it to to work for very long, if at all.

          Just an FYI :)
