It's free to play, although if you download it then you only have one champion (Ranger), and need to unlock the others though levelling up, or by purchasing them.
During QuakeCon, if you log in and play one match, then you will have all of the champions.
In terms of platform, it doesn't matter, because even if you download through steam, you need to link with a Bethesda account when the game launches.
Cool, I've had it in my library for awhile, played for a few days but dropped it because of the grind. This might bring me back to the game.
Quake III was boss back in the day online, I don't think I'd enjoy this champion style?
Completely agree. Well, that show our ages….. ;-)
You’d be surprised how much of the arena they’ve captured in champions.
I’ve been playing quake 3 for many years. 1.11, 1.16, 1.32, quake live via a web browser, quake live via the launcher, quake live via steam… it’s still fantastic fun today, and there are often two servers with 20 something people playing in Australia.
Quake champions are great fun though, they’ve managed to capture the arena gameplay. The abilities to add a new dynamic, but the abilities are really an aid only, and due to the 40-second cooldown, you still need to master your aim and movement.
The main problem with quake champions is that sometimes there can be a bit of a queue to get a game, whereas quake lives still has a server browser.
Is it Quake 3 Arena and not Team arena that your referring to?
Edit: Wanted to buy it on Steam but just realised it cheaper to buy the Quake 3 pack that includes both games.
All of the quake 3 players are in quake life now. But the post I made is about another game called Quake Champions (it's the newest one), and available on steam and Bethesda lancher for free.
However if you download now and play one game during quakecon then you will unlock all of the characters instantly,
@kev88au: I see what you are saying now.
Seeing you're a veteran player, do you think Quake 3 is still worth a purchase today if you enjoyed the game back in the day or has Champions surpassed it?
It has a game mode that disables champion abilities. So basically standard quake :)
"Searching for match"…
Has anyone actually got into a game?
Yup. Got into a couple of them.
Thanks, I'll try again :-)
On what platform? Steam? Bethesda?
Looks like steam? Quake champions is F2P. But seems to be a currency system with real money? If so, bleh.
