PSA - If anyone is seriously considering camping in a hammock - try Hennessy Hammocks

They have an aluminium base to reflect body heat (sleeping in the air is COLD)
They're pretty comfortable and really high quality.

Even better would be an Australian made Tier Gear hammock.
But really these cheap ones are a great way to decide whether you want to go down the hammock camping rabbit hole. And the integrated bugnet on this one is a big plus (a must have in most Aussie areas I think)

With a bit of practice they set up really quickly and easily, and super lightweight.

This Rep has a habit of writing 40% Off in a lot of their titles when it's clear they aren't.

Also never answers any questions, except for this deal where they wrote the same reply 4 times.

  • Question for those who own a camping hammock. I'm curious whenever I see these - what are they actually like to sleep in? The way your body would curve following the sag of the hammock looks like it would get really uncomfortable after a few hrs, especially on your back.

Hammocks like this one are for fun, sitting in during the daytime having fun with the kids etc.

The more serious camping hammocks (such as Hennessy mentioned above) can be quite comfortable after only a short period of use, they are quick to set up and a very good option when camping.
Typically with they are designed so that you sleep across the hammock (they even have ones for left or right hand sleepers) so you don't end up like a banana.
As mentioned above, the biggest issue I found when sleeping in a hammock is the draught/cold/air around & under you, which is a very different sensation than sleeping on the ground or a mattress.

    • They're pretty awesome actually, really comfortable but if it's windy out your butt and back will freeze without an underquilt. Even wrapping yourself in a sleeping bag - the compressed sleeping bag underneath you won't provide much warmth at all. I've slept overnight on hot (like mid 20s) nights just fine, but anything below that you need the added insulation.

It is pretty great though being able to set up somewhere to sleep regardless of the angle of terrain or surface - as long as you have some trees!

Like Wolfy mentioned this one isn't ideal for sleeping in (I reckon you need at least 3 metre hammock to get comfy) but would be good for an afternoon summer day, reading a book or watching a movie. Or having a nap.

  • It looks like the one i saw on Wish for $9.

  • Nothing like being well hung.
