Cheapest, crappiest PAYG NBN plan?

Hi guys, keeping this short and sweet.

I need the cheapest possible plan available, PAYG with ZERO data is fine because this plan will never be used just needs to be set up and left dormant.

There was a free or dirt cheap one I remember rubbishing at the time due to ad spam and data rates. I can't remember who that was with but ironically that'd be perfect for me now lol.

Not pensioner-only deals, I can't use those.

  • Not sure about NBN, back in the ADSL days DODO used to meet both your requirements - Cheapest, crappiest
Perhaps they still practice the same business philosophy with NBN.

    • I hear you :)

But alas, I'm looking for even cheaper and crappier on this occasion.

Haven't you used any of the NBN plan comparison sites?

        • I've been working since 2AM, my brain checked out hours ago. I'll go take a look now.

    Have a look on finder.com.au

    • Thanks will do :)

    Launtel charge by day.

This. If you set up a Launtel account, add some credit, and then "pause" the account, it will cost you nothing at all while it is paused. If you ever want to use it, you'll need to re-enable it and then you get charged by the day until you disable it again. You enable and disable the service using their web site.

    • Can you suspend the service if you're not using it, or do you have to drop back to the minimum $1.99 per day?

It suspends so no daily payment.

        From owner of Launtel… https://whrl.pl/Rf5ffl

Yes we need to add these to our FAQ. There are basically no limitations or conditions right now. Pausing a service actually processes a disconnect with NBN (so they don't charge us anymore), all it does is remember all the old settings (speed and port) so it can be quickly reconnected. The port is even freed up in NBN – clearly the unpause will fail if the port is already occupied.

The only condition that we are probably going to bring in is that if you leave a service paused for more than a certain period of time (probably 2 months) the pricing will reset to the current pricing being offered (i.e. you won't be able to stay on an old pricing).

Note that pausing only works on NBN – it does not work on other networks such as LBNCo.

Ah, well that's the way to go then!

        • Thanks for this!

So just unpause it for a day here and there once every 4-6 weeks to keep it happy?

  • TPG offers by far the cheapest NBN plan - 12/1Mbps, with 10GB of data for $30 a month.

Telstra's bare-bones voice service (provided over NBN) is the same price - $30 a month. It's not publicised, though. You may need to deflect quite a few upsells from the sales rep on the phone. - https://www.telstra.com.au/content/dam/tcom/personal/help/pd…

Edit: @ShortyX's suggestion of Launtel is probably the way to go.
