Haven't tried the Two-Fold variety, but the regular Starward is the best Aussie whisky I've tried. Will definitely give this a crack.

Two-fold is their low-end line, but is an awesome drop. This is definitely a great price if you're within driving distance.

Failing that, purchasing direct, they don't charge shipping!
I was lucky to attend a wedding reception at their distillery and sampled a few of their now-finished lines. Very delicious from a different take on their methods of ageing/blending.

    • You should try Lark too! (from tassie)

    • Its good for blended whisky. I own it.

    • Sullivan's cove and produce some crackas, Overeem produces some nice expressions too. But yeah I reckon Starward is underrated.. apparently they're about to produce a new one called "Fortis" aged in ex-shiraz casks bottled at 50% alc for an RRP of $129 which seems promising.

  • What’s a good one for present? Looking at 200-300 budget

Too many to name - would need more info e.g.
      - Do they like Sherry Cask, Bourbon cask etc
      - Do they like peat/smoke or floral/sweet?
      - Are you after a single malt
      - Do they have a preference for Scotch or are open to other countries?

      It's a big question

It depends on what style the person likes (sherry/peaty/spicy etc.), but this is a pretty good list to consider for your price range: https://thewhiskylist.com.au/guide/top-10-200-dollar-whiskie…

I would personally recommend the GlenDronach 18 Allardice.

I have the GlenDronach 18 Allardice (2 bottles) - it is now getting hard to find and more expensive.
        Hugeeeee Sherry Bomb

    • 100% depends on the person you're buying it for, but in that pricerange the Balvenie 21yo Portwood is a very nice drop of scotch

      $200-300 budget….

Opens up so many questions as have been listed.

For me, an expensive Irish is nice, on the smooth/sweet side. I like a nice Speyside single malt with a touch of peat, but not a whole lot of smoke.

There are so many out there.

If you like local, source yourself a cask-strength from Tasmania; Lark, Fanny Bay or Sullivans' Cove. There are some nice Helliyers' Road drops too. There are a few other drops from around Aus too, like Starward (Melb), 23rd Street (Renmark), Limeburners (WA) and a few other good drops coming out in recent times.

      • But I've never found an Irish whiskey I like, goes to show how people tastes vary.
OP really needs to get an idea of the kind of flavours their giftee likes.

    • As another poster suggested, try local Tassie whisky, espcially the smaller boutique ones. I've been to Old Kempton Distillery, a great drop, and have ordered a couple off their mailing list.

I've had the Lark Single Malt a few times and really enjoy it. The Lark Selection is great too

    • Usually for gifts, I would go for something people would say "ohhhh I heard of that brand, ohhh I see the word single malt, they are naiseeee."

      • Johnnie Walker Blue ……"naise brand, blended goodness"
      • Highland Park 18YO or younger ……"easy beginner single malt"
      • Lagavulin 16YO / 12YO / special release …… "tell them you know it's really really really good, don't care what they think/say"
      • Any expensive Macallan …… "don't worry, the brand name is huge they will kinda know"
      • Any Dalmore ….. "tell them to go watch the movie Kingsman, and get ready the cigars"
      • Mortlach Game of Thrones Six Kingdoms …… "you know GOT, yeah you know something"
    • I always suggest Glendronach if they're into sherry aged stuff.. they've been putting out some great whisky lately.

Mars Iwai is a ¥2,200 whisky in Japan.

    • And it's nasty in both countries!

    • That's a lot of money we are paying for it in Australia

    • japanese whisky so overpriced these dayssssss

  • the reduce to clear prices will differ store to store, so dont expect the same prices as op has posted for your local store.
eg for inner west area (NSW) - Chivas Regal Mizunara Whisky 700ml is $87.60.

  • If only they had wee beastie

Thank op, picked up the last Ardbeg 10 for $78 and a Melbourne Gin Company Dry Gin for $49 at Southern River. No box for the Ardbeg, but I can live with that.

    • Happy to share the whisky love!
